CORRECTIONS: Yes, there are mobile versions of Chu Chu Rocket (GBA), Power Stone 1/2 (PSP) and Soul Calibur (Android, delisted) - I didn't include these because I was focusing on the amazing multiplayer aspect of the games and the mobile/handheld versions are NOT the best ways to play any of these games. I misspoke when I said they weren't available anywhere else, as I was talking about on modern consoles and/or currently available. I cut out about 40% of this video to trim down the overall length and streamline which changed some context. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks for watching.

It adds a very interesting twist to the survival horror formula. 2- Omikron The Nomad Soul: An open world Cyberpunk game, yes, Quantic Dream did it first!. 3- Evil Twin: If Tim Burton made a video game, this what it probably would have looked like. Great video! I first got mine in the year 2000. What about Elemental Gimmick Gear (EGG)? It only ever came out on the Dreamcast. It had (imho) this amazing art direction and atmosphere that was (iirc) in part influenced by the French artist Moebius (Jean Giraud). For rpg's of this era, EGG stepped away from the much over utilized jrpg mechanics and instead created a quirky action rpg that feels like Metroid combined with Zelda. And the soundtrack was super great. The game has a definitive 90s era experimental animation vibe (thinking like MTV's liquid television). Anyways, I've been wanting to play this game for a minute, and your video has motivated me to (re) obtain a Dreamcast console. Cheers!

One thing I find a bit sad is how the ports are not as good as the originals. In Sonic Adventures the texture quality is worse, the lighting is not the same, same for Sonic Adventures 2, but it's less atrocious. Crazy Taxi doesn't have the original soundtrack anymore due to licensing issues. It's a shame since people who want to get a taste of Dreamcast from the convenience of modern hardware don't actually get a representative experience of how these games looked. Luckily there are fixes, you can restore the music to Crazy Taxi, and Sonic Adventures 1& 2 have mods that practically restore them to the original glory of the Dreamcast version :) (or at least as close as it can get). These days however, I would just recommend people to use redream. It's such an accurate emulator and easy to use that it is the best way to experience dreamcast games outside of original hardware....

For anyone wondering, there are in fact versions of all three games at the end on other home and handheld systems, not to mention the arcade. I have a Dreamcast myself and would recommend it, but don't feel left out, there are plenty of other ways! One final note, I believe that PC was always the defacto way to play Re-Volt, and preceded the DC version, but it certainly had the best console port.
@TynologyGaming Жыл бұрын
Correct with Chu Chu and Power Stone 2. I didn’t mention them because they aren’t better versions of the game and the multiplayer is where both those games really shine - and the experience is not ideal in either case. There is no other home version of Soul Calibur available (there were digital versions on X360 and mobile phone, but all are delisted). I agree, Re-Volt if you’re playing by yourself, or using a modded version of the game is best on PC, but the most fun I had was in split screen, and that was on DC. Thanks for the input!

I do NOT recommend playing Phantasy Star Online or Quake III or Bomberman Online or Alien Front Online or Ooga Booga on the Dreamcast because the server is down and anyway broadband hardly started in 1999. So if other ways to play these games are available, feel free to do so. What I would recommend is the 2D arcade shmups Giga Wing 1, Mars Matrix and Gunbird 2, as well as Garou Mark of the Wolves, Project Justice, Dead or Alive 2, Capcom vs SNK Pro and Street Fighter III Third Strike. The arcade quality was super high at the turn of the Millenium and these games do deserve credits for their astonishing quality, including in the story telling. The best racer on the system is Ferarri F355 Challenge by a country mile. Superb. Realistic. Exhilirating. Quality dtiving as well. It's phenomenal. I do NOT recommand any Model 3 port or Saturn follow up with the exception of Sega Bass Fishing and The House of the Dead 2. Sega Rally 2 might run at 10000000 FPS but it's still disappointing. Daytona USA could have nice features if it was not so unplayable. San Francisco Rush is your Daytona USA. I do not recommand 1996 Virtua Fighter 3, because it pales in comparison to the latest releases in the genre. Dynamite Cop is awful, Confidential Mission, Zombie Revenge worse. Sega GT is boring and dull. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 has some very good strengths but lacks variety. The huge hype over MSR is partly justified, but I believe what makes MSR special is present in other Dreamcast racers. Skies of Arcadia is mindblowing, Shenmue the greatest game ever made. Grandia II is another outstanding adventure game by GameArts. Up there with the very best. Samba de Amigo tons of fun. Crazy Taxi as well. I love Virtua Tennis. NHL 2K will make you sweat. Ecco the Dolphin... is exactly what you expect... Resident Evil Code Veronica is actually very good for the first half. Very cinematic. Good progression. Blue Stinger is surprisingly OK as long as you keep the television on mute. Worst soundtrack ever for an otherwise decent Survival Horror game. Super Magnetic Neo is a beautiful platformer, on the arcade tradition. Don't expect Rayman 2 from Super Magnetic Neo. Good on its own rights. JetSet Radio and Space Channel 5 have become classics. That's about it.

I bought the Dreamcast for Soulcalibur. I loved playing it so much at Chuck E. Cheese, that I just had to have it at home. Some other people have mentioned Grandia II. My all time favorite game of Dreamcast! Unfortunately I played Grandia II first, so trying to play Skies of Arcadia was a bit of a slog after that. I only got so far into the game after being frustrated by the constant random encounter and lackluster battle system. Grandia II you could sneak around monsters, and how you entered combat mattered. If you ran into the monster, you would get an advantage, if they ran into you, they got the advantage. Yes, Grandia II has been ported many times, and I have quite a few of the ports. The first PC port was okay, but had many graphical glitches, especially in the video integration. The PS2 port was aweful! I've seen many complaints about the ports to the newer consoles. The new PC port is actually really good. There were some early problems, which I didn't encounter, which I think have all been patched. I ended up picking up Grandia for Playstation off of ebay after enjoying the second one soo much. Grandia II is more consistantly good, but I think I enjoyed Grandia more, even if the game starts off a little weak. Unfortunately Grandia III came out in North America for the PS2 about the same time as the PS3 was launching. I think it was MotorStorm I got really sucked into and just never got back to Grandia III.

I didn’t include Grandia II on here simply because I never really got around to playing it and I knew it had a modern release. Interesting to know about the port issues! Maybe I should put some time into trying it

Dreamcast ended right before Soul Reaver 2 came out which ended up being an early title for PS2. Kind of crazy since Soul Reaver was originally on the PlayStation and Soul Reaver 2 was going to be on PS-One too so you could carry over your save file like in Shenmue 1 and 2. But because Soul Reaver 2 ended up on a different system with different memory cards, it was impossible to bring over your save file from the first game on either Dreamcast or PS-One. I think because of that the sequel was reworked and didn't continue everything from the first game. That's how you got the cut content that still remained on the disc but you couldn't access any of it by normal means. Think of something similar to the Banjo Kazooie Stop and Swap.

i've noticed that dreamcast ports tend to be worse than their originals, SA1 especially suffering from this. SA2 has a broken rail grinding system which STILL hasn't been fixed by PC modders & there's no dreamcast DLC, to the point where played both games on dreamcast, despite owning them on steam (and PS3, for SA1) for years. i've made few exceptions (shenmue 1+2 on PS4, rez, ikaruga, triggerheart excellia's demo unlocked on 360, and power stone on PSP), mostly due to the price. battle may have more content, but DC's still better imo.

Its not being released. This is why you buy a dreamcast and keep all the games and look after them , like I did 😉. If you buy a loose dreamcast unboxed no cable you can get one for £35-40 pounds u.k 💰. You then buy a equivalent power lead £6 not big adapter plug needed. Then ( this is the important part) buy a kaico adapter its plug and play for hdmi and its pretty darn good more like HD picture. I play it on a 65 inch screen no problem. Add a genuine controller 12 quid . So about 100 pound all in. Most games are still affordable but some you may have to remortgage your house for but it's worth it 👌
