I honestly disagree with this attitude for the same reason people disagree with the term “IDM”. Just because other people listen to less experimental music, doesn’t mean their music is somehow stupider or more thoughtless. Good music is good music in either case. They just do different things for different ends.

this video is kinda old i'm late to the party. i guess i have enjoyed recordings of keiji's projects before, but watching him live now, it's clear he knows how to play guitar. a very deliberate artist. all the technique is there, he's just doing something else with it! a+++

"caaarrrrddddiiiiiooooooo" 11:25 he is telling us cardio! (frankly I find this stuff very difficult to grasp. What is the feeling or takeaway here for anyone who can "appreciate" experimental music. I really dislike it. To me is sounds like children, with no musical experience jamming. Seriously, please enlighten me.
@notsure47465 жыл бұрын
Well I guess the "children" comparison could be a starting point in understanding. Picasso said it took him a lifetime to learn to paint like a child, that's part of the goal here, to be entirely liberated from music's rules. They are both talented musicians who can play more... musical, music quite well, and in that I can hear musical experience. I don't know if you hear it, but they are improvising off each other: So it's interesting hear improv in a "no rules" setting, how one responds to the other's playing. And these atonal and jarring noises do create at atmosphere that's unique which creates a feeling, an emotion that is unique. It's a bit of an anxious feeling, so I fully understand people not wanting to listen to it, but I can hear the art/beauty in that anxiety. Plus western music is just 12 notes, and they all need to be played in a certain way, it's easy to get bored of "normal" music and want to hear something entirely unique. Just trying to explain how someone could "appreciate" this. But again, I fully understand people not liking atonal experimental noisy music.

Yoko Ono is a pretencious artist who enjoy the husband sucess to pull on light in your egocentric and selfish person. These two guys , knows everthing is be a necessary to construct a truly improvisation. Theres is no selfish, no brilantism,... These guys serve the music, make a necessary for music. @FRan Tastic No dude. Yoko ono its nothing comparing these two muscicians. I think the real star of this show is Charles Hayward..... Keiji Heino looks and sounds as he always does..... like he's just f**king about with expensive toys..... Charles Hayward at least tries to navigate this improv session and give it feeling, dynamics and direction! I think that's the goal of experimental music..... to navigate through the unknown and untested without a guide, to cut a new path through the jungle in search of new riches as yet undiscovered..... sometimes you return empty handed, sometimes you discover a whole new landscape! Thing is, KH has been doing his nonsense for years..... past the point of it being new/ exciting or even 'experimental'..... it's just 'schtick' now, same as Masonna (who's other 2 projects 'space machine and christine23onna were much more satisfying experimentally)! Anyone who says the haters of this 'performance' just don't get it are only convincing themselves this is 'art'!
@nik80994 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I think most music labeled experiment or avant-garde isn't really and tend to regurgitate similar things. I think of it really as very unique sounds, textures, new melodies, rhythms, etc. To me Bjork is a lot more avant-garde than most avant-garde artists.
