@JasonBagnell Жыл бұрын
@@stevemyopinion423 The Intel i7-8700 is a fast processor so if I were in your situation I would go ahead and purchase and install an up-to-date video card (NVidia, AMD) into your current computer. That will eliminate the bottleneck where your current video card is slowing the performance of your games. If you end up buying a new PC in the future, you can always move the new video card to it.

@az21bob666 I did some research for you and I think you best bet would be to buy a used AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card. I found a bunch on EBay for under $160. According to the www.videocardbenchmark.net website, it will perform 16x faster than your current Radeon 520 graphics card. You can search EBay.com for: "amd rx 5600 xt". Make sure you read the full description of the product (so you don't end up buying a "parts only" broken one) and only buy from someone who has a good EBay rating. !!*** Most import though is to make sure you PC has room for a full sized graphics card and make sure your power supply has the appropriate power connectors available. ***!! The smaller store bought PCs might not have either.

That was very helpful, thank you. I appreciate the way you cut right to the chase and tell people what to look for, what the basic specs you need are, and how to shop. I particularly appreciated the advice to just stick to intel processors and to filter results by "available in store." When I've gone online to shop in the past, I've been overwhelmed by the hundreds of computers available, not to mention all the specs to sort through. Too many choices! Paralysis of analysis! But you simplified the process considerably. I also appreciate the tip about the discount prices being essentially meaningless (i.e., not a reflection of quality). With your help, I was able to pick a computer out in less than an hour. Thank you again for your very straightforward and clear explanation of the process.

@JasonBagnellАй бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment! I don't have any new videos (yet) about buying a new computer but I might make one soon. The information I presented in this video was from several years ago but the concepts still remain valid. Today, (October 2024), Intel is selling their 14th generation of CPUs which are all very FAST! Their 13th gen CPUs are also very good too. As always, stay away from anything that has a Celeron or Pentium processor and make sure that the laptop has a SSD drive and 8GB+ of memory. As far as processor speed, I'd recommend buying a laptop whose processor has a speed rating of at least 15,000 on the cpubenchmark.net/ website. Laptops shouldn't be designed to run HOT most of the time but sometimes the manufacturers do a poor job of designing the laptop's case in a way that effectively dissipates the heat produced by the processor, which makes the noisy fan come on to keep it cool. If you are running programs (games, video editing, etc) that require a lot of processing power, make sure you don't buy a laptop that has one of the lower powered, "power efficient" processors, because a low powered CPU will need to run at 100% most of the time to keep up with you. A higher powered processor (Intel i5, i7) will be able to handle tasks much faster, which will allow the CPU to not be maxed out most of the time, which will make the computer overall cooler, which also makes it quieter because the CPU fan doesn't need to run all of the time. It is hard to tell you exactly what to buy because there are so many different models available from each manufacturer. My customers have have recently been buying Asus and HP laptops and they seem to be overall happy with their purchase. If you're buying from Office Depot or Best Buy, see if you can try out a demo model of the laptop you want to buy before you make the purchase. Also check on the product reviews on the store's website to see what people are complaining about before making the purchase. Feel free to send me a link to a particular laptop you are about to buy and I'll be happy to tell you what I think of it. Cheers! -- Jason

@@JasonBagnell This comment is a great update in itself for the video which still seems to be helping a lot of people! I was wondering because you said in your video to stay away from Celeron or Pentium processors because they don't have a simple numbering system like i5 or i7. Yea, computer manufacturers sure would make it easier on us consumers if they had something like that for every chip right? But so, if you use that benchmark website to put in the exact name of one of those other chips so you know how it performs are they then ok to get? Or is there some *other* reason not to get them?
@JasonBagnell11 күн бұрын
@@linsqopiring6816 Hi, thanks for your comment! Whenever I look for new PCs in the retail stores, I often find that they sell a bunch of lower priced "Celeron" or "Pentium" PCs. Anyone who is about to buy a new computer will want to buy the fastest one that fits their budget, or at least they'll want to know if the one they are considering is much slower than another PC that is ON SALE at a lesser price. That's where the CPUBenchmark.Net website comes in. I *ALWAYS* look up the PC's processor speed rating on that website and compare it to any other PCs I'm considering at the moment to make sure I get the most powerful computer for the money. Here's why I don't ever recommend Pentium or Celeron PCs: -- What I've found is every time I look up the performance benchmark of a Celeron or Pentium processor, it almost always *MUCH SLOWER* and less powerful than PCs that use the same generation Intel i3, i5, i7 or i9 processor. Sometime the difference is A LOT. Because those processors are the lowest of low, I never even consider purchasing or recommending them. Just for fun, I just pulled up Best Buy's Black Friday website and found a $599.99 well equipped laptop (8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 17.3" Screen), BUT it has the Intel Pentium Silver N5030 processor. Here's a link: www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-17-3-laptop-intel-pentium-silver-n5030-8gb-memory-512gb-ssd-natural-silver/6503896.p?skuId=6503896 I looked up the processor on CPUBenchmark.net and found that it's speed rating is 2,595, which is slow slow slow. The i9-14900K CPU that I use has a speed rating of 60,129 which is 23 times faster! My PC is a little overkill but I currently recommend that people buy a new computer that has a benchmark score of at least 15,000, if they can find one they can afford. Anything under 8,000 is SLOW and will perform like an 8-year old PC. One another note, it is perfectly fine to buy a new computer that contains an AMD processor. Just make sure you look up it's speed rating so you know exactly what you are purchasing. I have nothing against AMD, I'm just loyal to Intel. One person went nuts on my channel because he thought I was completely against AMD, but I'm not. I hope you find all of this interesting and hopefully others will too. Have a great weekend and a wonderful holiday season. Cheers! -- Jason :)

@JasonBagnell27 күн бұрын
You're welcome! This video is over two years old but the concepts are still valid. Intel has recently released their new "Core Ultra" CPUs. Those processors can be looked up on the cpubenchmark.net chart too. Try to buy a PC with at least a 13th or 14th generation Intel CPU or one of their new Core Ultra chips and you'll be all set. I always recommend looking up the CPU speed on the chart to make sure you're not buying "the slow one". Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!! Jason :)

I almost forgot --- The new PCs usually come with a mix of USB-A and USB-C ports. Some of the newer laptops will ONLY have USB-C ports, which makes it harder for you to connect your old peripherals but there are adapters (or hubs) are available that help with that. Most PCs/Laptops will have an HDMI port for the external monitor. Some will have one or more DisplayPort outputs. Checks the specifications of the new PC to make sure you will have everything you need. The old "VGA" port is now a thing of the past. Thanks again -- Jason

@JasonBagnell11 ай бұрын
Yes, the brand of the monitor does not matter. Just make sure that the video output on the computer matches the input type on the monitor. For example, if the computer has a HDMI monitor output port, make sure the monitor connect it to has an HDMI input. If not, you can get away with buying a cable that is HDMI on one end and Display Port on the other end, or a cable that has HDMI on one end and DVI on the other end. Just know that if you use the DVI-to-HDMI cable, sound will not be sent through the cable (in case your monitor has built in speakers). I hope this helps! Cheers -- Jason

Hi! If you find a good deal on a powerful computer directly from the manufacturer, it would be fine to order directly from them. The retail stores do a pretty good job of keeping a handful of the better-selling PCs in stock and you don't need to wait for them to ship the PC to your location. Use the concepts from this video to guide you in figuring out what to buy. The current Intel CPUs are now in the 13th and 14th generation, so look for a PC whose processor model number starts with 13xxx or 14xxx. Thanks -- Jason

(1) Can I do that with one computer (2) What is the best processor and how much memory do I need to start with ? Any help you guys can offer is appreciated. Thanks
@JasonBagnell14 күн бұрын
Hi! (1) You should be able to perform all of those tasks on one relatively new PC. The processors have become quite powerful in the last three years. (2) Intel recently release their newest, most powerful consumer CPU, which is the Core Ultra 9 285K. A computer with that processor would be overkill for what you're doing and it would be unnecessarily expensive because the "latest and greatest" versions of new computers usually are. I located some new powerful PCs for one of my clients yesterday and found something more affordable that was also very powerful. Here a link to Dell's website (Black Friday Sale): $959.00 - Dell XPS Desktop, i7-14700 CPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/xps-desktop/spd/xps-8960-desktop/usextpbts8960gscy?_gl=1*1u1odae*_up*MQ..*_gs*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi_G5BhDXARIsAN5SX7of2gMNgHewXlwj8jDGhulRHXzNqMPUbcjsfEqoD2a6QqH8jpmgEBgaAnMDEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds (2.2) Make sure the new PC has at least 16GB of RAM/Memory. 8GB was enough in the past but 16GB is becoming the new safe-spot now. Your website will be handling the sales, you can use a program like QuickBooks for payroll and I'm not sure about what would handle the automated E-Mail messages. If the messages are related to transactions from the website, a program or "plug-in" on the website will be sending them. If you want to send newsletters to your customers, it is best to use a service like Mail Chimp or Constant Contact so the messages don't get blocked as SPAM and so your E-mail account doesn't get marked as a SPAM sender for sending out bulk E-Mail messages. There are marketing companies that can handle reliably sending out bulk E-Mail messages that won't get blocked. Mail servers these days actually make it difficult to send out mass quantity E-mail messages. I hope this information was helpful. Best of luck with your business! Cheers -- Jason :)

@JasonBagnell2 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, thanks so much for your kind words! Because you want to use video editing programs, the cheaper sub-$800 PCs are out because of the case size and power supply limits. If you're looking to buy a pre-built PC from a major manufacturer, you will need to purchase the company's "Gaming" line to get one with a bigger power supply and room for a great graphics card. I just found a great price on Dell Alienware PC for $1,199.99 (supposedly $750 off) that has an Intel i7-12700F CPU, 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT video card and a 512GB SSD. You would want to increase the SSD to at least 1TB and upgrade to 32GB RAM (or do that later) to have a good video editing PC. Check it out at the following URL: www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gaming-and-games/alienware-aurora-r13-gaming-desktop/spd/alienware-aurora-r13-desktop/wdr13aur202soh I looked up it's i7-12700F CPU on CPUBenchmark.Net and found that it is 68% *FASTER* than the i9-9900K chip that I'm using now. Holy cow!!! I hope this helps! Jason

@JasonBagnell7 ай бұрын
Hi! That's about $300 in USD. In the USA, there is a used computer store near me called "Refresh Computers". I looked at their inventory and found that they do have a few PCs available at that price point that support running (or come with) Windows 11 pre-installed. It is important to NOT spend money on a PC that doesn't support Windows 11 because Microsoft has stated that Windows 10 will no longer be supported towards the end of 2025. That being said, you should be shopping for a PC that has an Intel 8th generation CPU or NEWER so it will be able to run Windows 11. You should choose a PC with at least 8GB of memory/RAM and you'll want one that has a SSD drive (and NOT a mechanical hard drive). Here's one used example from my local computer store: $289.99, Intel i7-8700, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro: refreshcomputers.net/shop/product/dell-optiplex-7060-sff-i7-8700-3-2ghz-8gb-512gb-ssd-nvme-windows-11-pro/ And another example: $309.99 - Intel i5-9500 CPU, 16GB Memory/RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro: refreshcomputers.net/shop/product/dell-optiplex-3070-mt-tower-core-i5-9500-3-0ghz-4-4ghz-16gb-512gb-ssd-windows-11-pro/ It looks like there are some good used PCs out there at your price point so search EBay or the local computer stores for a PC that has similar specifications: SSD drive, 8+ GB of memory, 8th generation or newer Intel processor. Good luck on your search! Cheers -- Jason :)

See: www.officedepot.com/a/products/8855342/Dell-Inspiron-3020S-Small-Desktop-PC The only shortcoming it has for you is that the PC only has 0.5TB of hard drive space. I have sold several of these PCs to my customers and I love how much power/performance you get for the money. Note: It has one DisplayPort and one HDMI port that allows you to connect up to two monitors to the PC. It does NOT have a VGA port, so make sure your current monitor supports HDMI or DisplayPort connections. Just something to consider! Cheers -- Jason :)

I'm looking at the Dell 3020. I have now a Dell 570. My monitor that came with it is still good. Will it work with the 3020. And I don't understand a lot of tech talk, please.
@JasonBagnell Жыл бұрын
I looked up pictures of both PCs on EBay. The Dell Inspiron 570 Desktop PC has VGA and HDMI monitor ports. The Dell Optiplex 3020 has VGA and DisplayPort monitor ports. So, if you monitor is currently using a VGA cable it will work fine on either computer. If your monitor only supports HDMI, you will need to buy a DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable, from Amazon, OfficeDepot.com, etc for it to work on the Dll Optiplex 3020 computer.. I hope this helps! You can go to Google.com and search for "VGA Cable" or "HDMI Cable" to see what each of these looks like. The VGA cable has 3-row of tiny pins for a total of 15 pins.

Hi, my PC hp 110-417 b , Is don't turn on today , went I plug out the back power cable and plug in again turn on but in 3 second shutdown I believe is the internal power supply, this PC have about 10 year , so is time to change , what is the best 5 option lower price to high for buy a combo or tower,and were Thank you
@JasonBagnell11 ай бұрын
It sounds like your old PC needs a new power supply. They are usually $50 or less. You can also open the PC's case and try removing and reinstalling the memory modules, graphics card, etc. Use compressed air to blow out any dust from the inside and from the fans. Also blow out any dust that might be INSIDE the power supply. Don't spend too much money fixing your old PC because it is very slow by today's standards. As for a new computer, I've been super busy and don't have any recommendations for you at this moment but if I find something soon I will reply back to this comment. What is your budget for the new computer? Thanks -- Jason

Is a Intel Celeron J4025 comparable to a i3?
@JasonBagnell4 ай бұрын
Hi! Intel Celeron and Pentium CPUs are significantly slower than Intel's i3, i5 and i7 line of processors. According to CPUBenchmark.net, the Intel Celeron J4025 CPU came out in early 2020 and has a CPU Benchmark score of 1,471. For comparison, the Intel i3 CPU that came out during that same time period was the Intel i3-10100 which has a CPU Benchmark score of 8,653, which makes it over 5 times faster than the Celeron J4025. I hope this helps! -- Jason

Good evening sir, Great video, thank you. I am a pastor. I got an Hp 34 monitor, what specification of tower can I buy to do a live streaming for the church. I need something fast, and storage of videos and Pictures. What can I buy ?

Hi! I just found a great desktop tower PC for your application. Here is a link to it on BestBuy's Website: www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideacentre-gaming-5i-gaming-desktop-intel-core-i5-12400f-16gb-memory-nvidia-rtx-3050-512gb-ssd-raven-black/6535023.p?skuId=6535023 I like this PC because it is under $900 and comes with a dedicated NVidia Graphics Card (instead of using a lower powered intergrated GPU). It has 16GB of memory and has a 512GB m.2 SSD drive which is very fast. The CPU is a 12th Generation i5-12400F which is actually faster than the 3 year old Intel i9-9900K computer I use for my 4K video editing. I've configured one of these PCs before and my customer was very happy with it. For monitor outputs, it has (1) HDMI 2.0 port and (1) DisplayPort 1.4 port and will run your nice 34" HP monitor well. I hope this helps. Cheers! -- Jason

Good video. I was wondering if the newer SSDs were reliable. Good to know. I thought you were going to suggest a smaller SSD, and simply buy and install an additional 1TB HDD. If they're advertised as having additional slots, is the power supply still limited to only what's installed? I never thought about reading the power supply specs when considering adding components.
@JasonBagnell Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I've found the Samsung SSDs to be very reliable, so when given a choice, I go with Samsung. As far as having a small boot drive, you can always add a mechanical hard drive for extra (slow) storage but you definately don't want to keep running out of room on the PC's C: drive. It would be almost useless to buy a Windows based computer with only 128GB. It would only hold the operating system and a few programs and it would begin to fill up quickly as Windows Updates came in over time. About the power supply -- The cheaper store bought PCs usually have a proprietary or small power supply that can't be upgraded to a more powerful model. The cases on the cheaper store bought PCs are usually are too small to fit a full-sized graphics card (like the NVidia RTX-3080/3090, etc). Aside from not having room to fit an advanced graphics card, you won't have to power connectors you need either. Even though the cheaper store bought computer are somewhat limited, if you're not gaming, you can get A LOT of power for the money you pay. Make sure to buy a newer one that has an Intel 12th generation or 13th generation CPU. Intel's 12th and 13th generation CPUs leave my 9th gen i9-9900K CPU in the dust. I would consider buying or building myself a new computer that has an Intel i5-13600K CPU because it would perform 2 times faster than my older i9. The new chips are amazingly fast! Which laptops would you recommend for engineering? I don’t know from which brand to buy from😅, I’m not looking for any Apple though thanks!
@JasonBagnell Жыл бұрын
Hi! The Dell Precision 5470 laptops are built with Engineering and CAD in mind. They are very configurable and you can order one with a nVidia RTX A1000 GPU for approved AutoCAD graphics compatability. Choose 32 or 64GB of RAM and a 12th or 13th generation i7 CPU and you will be set for years! Hi Jason which computer you recommended for tax preparer??
@JasonBagnell Жыл бұрын
Hi Lisandra -- I took a quick look at Office Depot and Best Buy's website and found a Dell Inspiron 3020 for $799.99 that has a SUPER FAST 13th generation Intel i7 processor, 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. You can connect 2 monitors to it (HDMI, Display Port) but it does not come with a monitor. It does come with a no-frills keyboard and mouse. It has WiFi 6 support, and also has a gigabit ethernet/network port. It's CPU/Processor is twice as fast as my Intel i9-9900K video editing rig! You will be happy with this computer for a LONG time! This PC is considered a "Business Computer" and will work impressively well but you can't ever turn it into a gaming PC due to size and power supply limitations. For accounting work, it would be a MONSTER!! :) HERE'S THE LINK: www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-3020-desktop-13th-gen-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-intel-uhd-graphics-770-512gb-ssd-mist-blue/6537086.p?skuId=6537086 Please subscribe to my KZbin channel if you haven't already. I don't understand a lot of computer jargon . but could you please tell me if the HP pavillion Desktop Tp014009 with an intel corei5 .13400 ssd memory 16 gb with 512 gb ssd would work well with maybe widows 12 , 13 14 ?????? I am afraid it might become obsolete in a hurry , please help me if you can, it is for home use I would not be storing much on it , I read that HP is a good brand that you can trust feel free to offer your thoughts if you will.
@JasonBagnell Жыл бұрын
I think a HP PC with those specifications would serve you well! The 13th generation Intel processor is the latest and you would be in great shape for the future. 16GB of memory is ideal too. The CPUBenchmark.net sped rating for the processor is 25,278 which is faster than my older i9 PC. Because you aren’t storing much, the 512Gb SSD drive would be fine Cheers - Jason

3d? Brand i 8:23 importance?
@JasonBagnell8 ай бұрын
My customers usually end up with a Dell, HP or Lenovo PC or laptop. Asus is also another good manufacturer. Everyone has their own opinion but those brands are the ones that I end up working on. It might be that those companies provide the retail stores with fairly powerful computers at lower prices, which makes the consumers buy lots of them, which makes the stores quickly restock their shelves. These days most of the computer's electronics are integrated onto the motherboard. The major manufacturers tend to design their own proprietary motherboard and cases that are designed to integrate with each other. Then they use industry standard parts for the rest. Meaning, the memory, hard drive, video card, etc. are obtained for other companies like Micron, Seagate, Western Digital, nVidia, etc. The manufacturers know that they need to do a good job building their PCs and choosing good hardware because they will have to support hundreds of thousands of them once the PCs hit the market. The manufacturers spend a lot of time testing their PC configurations before they hit the market for that reason, and those PCs tend to be very reliable. Because most people want to buy a computer that is fast as possible for a price that is low as possible, most of the pre-built PCs that sell for under $1,000 will work perfectly if you leave them in their stock configuration. They have a very low wattage power supply that is also very small in size. It is exactly the right size/power to run the PC in it's stock configuration but if you want to install a powerful video card or change the i3 CPU to a powerful i9-K series CPU, the power supply will be insufficient and you won't be able to install a more powerful power supply into the computer because it won't fit in the PC's case. Anyone one wants to upgrade their PC over time should purchase a "gaming PC" that allows you to easily replace the Power Supply and Motherboard. Otherwise, the pre-built cheaper off-the-shelf PCs are perfectly fine.

You’re right, I had pulled the date off of the thumbnail image but left it in the title, so I just removed it. KZbin took over 500 days to give the video it’s first 500 views and then they started sending viewers to it like crazy. Even though the Intel CPUs have reached newer generations, the concepts presented still remain valid. Thanks for your comment. - Jason

THANK JESUS FOR A VIDEO THATS NOT ABOUT GAMING COMPUTERS! I’m literally getting pissed every single video is about fricking gaming pcs.. don’t people use PCs for anything other than gaming these days!? Sheesh…
@JasonBagnellКүн бұрын
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the video useful. :) This video is a few years old so my minimum recommendations have increased a little. Try to buy a PC with a 13th or 14th generation Intel processor (or AMD equivalent) or you can buy a PC with any of Intel's new "Core Ultra" processors. All of those are very fast. Next, try to get 16GB of memory. For the CPU/Processor, I recommend buying one that has a speed rating of at least 15,000 on the CPUBenchmark.Net processor speed rating chart (Higher is better). I wish you a great holiday season! Cheers -- Jason :)
