My advice is, go for a degree on something that will pay good. For example, if you get a degree in dental assisting, you won't make much and be able to pay it off easily. Second, don't take out student loans, unless you have no other choice. For example, a degree in engineering is worth it, since if you get a job, you can actually pay it off... just a thought.

@@mars7239 No, it isn't. My advice is to get a full scholarship or work and save as much money as possible, then go to college when you can afford it. Second, have not only a budget plan, but also life savings. Also, go to community college, as it doesn't cost as much. Major in a degree that is worthwhile. There are plenty of high paying Associates degrees, that makes it possible. Or, if you are going for a 4 yr degree, go to community college, major in a good paying degree, then transfer to university, but save as much as possible. Don't take out a 20,000$ student loan and major in Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. *Only* major in something that has a good job outlook and will pay well. Here is a list of highest paying associates degrees. 1. LPN Nurse: 45,000 2. Respiratory therapy: $57,000 3. Diagnostic medical sonography: $60,000 4. Radiology/ X-ray Technician: 60,000 5. Dental hygienist: $70,000 6. Radiation therapist: $80,000 7. Nuclear Medicine Technology: 80,000 8. Engineering: 82,000 9. Computer programmer: 82,000 10. Air Traffic Control: 120,000

I know someone who graduated from college with straight A's, but still struggles with finding a well-paying job because people who got certified instead of going to college get hired over him. Nothing wrong with attending college but you have to finish in a timely manner. Many many students take way way way tooooo long to get through school. It takes forever for most students. That's what I've seen as the biggest problem with college. Yes it costs money but the amount of time just adds to the cost not only in terms of debt but the opportunity cost of losing work experience. It's ok to go to school, but get in, get done, and get out. DON'T TAKE FOREVER!!! Otherwise college really is a waste of time.
@shimmer4771
@shimmer4771 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. However, some students have unfortunate circumstances and are forced to take longer or the program was harder. (For example, many students *struggle* with algebra.) Colleges add really hard majors to their subjects.

It seems there are people from just about every type of career that are not finding work even though they have tens of thousands in loan debt. I would say that until the government fixes this problem, don't play the game. If you can't get a degree without student loans, than don't go to college. It's better to be oppressed without debt than with debt.

Or, work before and during college. Save as much as possible and don't take out student loans, unless absolutely necessary. Second, save gas money and other things. It's possible, just very hard. I used to work there as well in the same plant, same lab. making 25/ hr , and I regret leaving that company because I would probably be making wages only slightly less than what she is getting now. I left the company because I met my wife while she was working on conservation efforts and achieving her graduate degree, 4 years and 4 internships later, I have consistently held down a higher income, while having only a GED, and only 2 semesters of humanities in college. She is about to recieve a masters degree. I have multiple years of experience in several fields of manufacturing, ranging from food, chemical, and aircraft. I strongly believe that her higher education endeavors have set her back in such a way that she will never from financially. My dad has a PHD and he has never made as much money as my step mother with not a second of college education. my wife is nearly at masters level, and has never made as much money as I have. College has become a useless money pit. Do yourself a favor and learn to weld, perform plumbing or auto repair. learn to work in a lab at a food plant near you. if you do any of those things, you will have so many opportunites open to you that College will seem like such a waste of time.

I love these woman she is on point. But i would love to be limited to jobs $20 plus an hour but i cant get them. Employers value experience but i cant do a low paid internship because i have to make more to pay off loans. 90% of highly sucessful people will say the college had no impact on their sucess. And they would be where they are quicker without college. One sucessful woman i went to college with told me college helped her with time management.

Nursing degree, Associates in Liberal arts! Booya! Its all about being responsible.....most students party it up, buy stupid cars and get themselves in stupid debt+college debt! Be smart with your money, and your life will be that much easier! I walked to school and I saw some of my friends drive brand new Camaros and they laughed at me....guess who is laughing now!!??

LetsgetphysicalAg Best not to try to convince uneducated people that getting a degree is well worth it. We know what the statistics say and there is zero doubt that a degree is well worth it for the majority of the people. Those working at Walmart for $8 an hour are just looking for any excuse to take the easy way out.

NHBbroadcast THANK YOU GOOD SIR!! A degree is absolutely well worth it! Of course some people try to get a degree in philosophy and then only have deep thoughts of being unemployed. Ive got a degree in nursing and it has absolutely paid itself off. NO DOUBT IN MY MIND! I never regret going to school and getting a degree. People who say otherwise are just fooling themselves. Thanks again!

Note: Nursing Degree. Field: High-paying, constantly in demand. Much like the saying of old--only "reforged" shall we say--it's not the size of the brain, it's how you use it. You were clever enough an passionate enough to put that intelligence of yours to use in a field that, frankly, is doing better than most fields today.

The guys who are working at Costco, FedEx, UPS, and the post office are all doing better than me. And I'm a doctor! College was definitely not worth it. It is a scam. In the end, it's better to work in a factory making 40-50k and getting tons of benefits, a retirement plan, and paid vacation all without the burden of a college debt. Don't go to college. Become a plumber, a mechanic, a technician, a repairman, a driver. And work for a big company so that you can get great benefits. All you need is a community college certificate to get your foot in the door and as long as that company doesn't go bankrupt, you're set. There's no need to incur several hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. That idiotic model for success was a scam.

Its true that the general population that graduates will make more money in their lifetime. Problem is it seems like every1 is just following the pack. You see it all the time when young adults get asked "where do u go to school? what r you studying?". Society suggest that to be successful or to be normal you have to finish post secondary. I believe post secondary is not for everyone and it depend on the person and what they want to do.

Getting an education is excellent but I say colleges should not rip off student who’s is getting there degrees in low minor and majors if you not going to school to be a doctor, lawyer, teacher even though teachers don’t get paid enough scientist student shouldn’t have to pay for that degree you shouldn’t have to pay for a degree in business or a PhD tittle and major in arts that just don’t make since they should only charge for living on campus in those little degrees and leave the education free included the books and four years that way the debet can make since pay to live on campus not education for degrees that don’t guarantee a job. Cause the living is what make up most of the debt anyway.

Find out why this college ranked the way it did. The longer the bar, the better the college performed. Green bars show a better than average ranking. Yellow is about average and red is below average. Overall, Southern New Hampshire University is ranked 1,125 out of 1,383. This means that about 81% of the colleges in our system rank as well or better than this college.

Getting my bachelors and masters from good universities helped open doors for me. I was told by my new job that where I went to school for my bachelors made me stand out from the other candidates. So, my education helped me get a job with a 50% raise fast tracking my career. I wiped out my student loans in my first year of working full time. So, getting a college degree is worth it if you are smart about it and pick a career field that is in high demand with high barriers to entry.

I almost have a degree and I'm not in debt. However, my advice is, don't go after a degree that pays little. In fact, don't go to college unless you can afford it. Save every penny. Don't spend unless you have to. Go to community college and work during college and save, save, save. Don't go to university and study/major in Sociology or Journalism. Basically, if don't pay, no way!

YTAF you going to college to get a job that pays $10 an hour?!! You're doing it wrong! Also man those Anthony Bourdain ad banners 😔 RIP bro. If you are going to college for a specific real skill like engineering, physics, math, or some medical or law degree, fine. Just don't overpay. Business I don't know as much about. But poly sci, anything with studies in the name... only if your parents are rich and you don't need to work. Teaching can pay okay, but it's a brutal career, ppl burn out in 5 years. Arts degrees? Statistically you won't make a living as an artist of any kind, but if you have genius talent and dedication you can. Think carefully about what you'll do with a degree and how many of those slots there really are.

This is terrible advice. It very much depends on the degree & if you actually study or just get drunk 5 times a week. A lot of Americans treat college as very expensive party time & get stupid degrees, then wonder why they can't get a job. My brother went to a state school & got a degree in CS. He has no debt, rents his own apt with no roommates, and just got his 3rd job since graduation making $85K at just 24.

The main problem is that Americans are not studying hard and they are so choosey in selecting college undergraduate degrees. Where I am, in my country American hospitals are hiring so many nurses, teachers, doctors, engineers, physical therapist and IT professionals to name a few. There are so much openning that agencies responsible for hiring cannot compete the job order slots. We have surplus of graduate nurses and other medical related course. But there are so much skills gap especially in healthcare especially nurses and engineers and physical therapist. I simply do not know why most americans want either to be the next Dr. Phil or the next great business executives wherein there are other degree jobs that they simply do not want and of course companies instead look into foreign job pool to fill that gap coz americans simply are too dumb and lazy to see this courses are not "cool" and innovative. They also do not want skills coz its dirty and they want to become the next jake paul a dumb youtuber star or the next michael jordan or probably bill gates. Fame and fortune from celebrity rags to riches always is on the line. Pursuing passion is not common sense is what americans are always wanting. Passion cannot put food on the table.
