Hey again, From my own personal experience I never had any trouble finding a left-handed set of pipes, but I could imagine that for others that it might be a little more difficult. The increase in cost usually arises if a particular maker hasn't made a left-handed set before and has to make a mould from scratch (at least that's what I've been told), but in saying that, I've found that the price of any set of pipes usually varies from one set to another, one maker to another

Thanks for your thoughts ed - it's an interesting debate. It's important to realise however that the 'western wind instrument' tradition that you speak of (bassoons etc.) is one outside Irish trad. so different values and 'rules' etc. apply. Thankfully I've found Irish trad. to be more flexible and accommodating in terms of the needs of the individual learner where, from my experience, the 'handedness' of a learner is rarely if ever an issue in Irish trad. music teaching and learning contexts

hello. I'm Portuguese and i love irish music. i've 2 whistles and i only can play slow songs i cant play songs faster then my breath because i cant do circular breathing. do you have some tips to learn that? i play music by ear, i dont read tabs instantly.
@onlineacademyofirishmusic10 жыл бұрын
Hi Luís, Thanks for this great question. I'm delighted to hear that you play music by ear :) In Irish music, generally we don't use circular breathing. Where to breath in a tune is a skill in itself that our youtube videos don't cover. We do have a lesson on the website that teaches those skills. It's lesson 11 in this course - oaim.ie/whistle-basics Please let me know how you get along with that.

Thank you for the earlier reply. I will try that lesson but i think i need a better whistle. your's have a great sound. where can i find it? i think i need a whistle who can play 2 tones perfectly but they are a kind of expensive. Our whistle key is in C or D? i like also whistle at Bb. Our is tunneable or not? i think not tunneable for me are the best right know. Can you say me a brand or too for high and low whistles? i love low whistle too.

+irishmusicacademy on a similar note, i've been able to circular breathe with a didgeridoo for about a year now and after picking up a tin whistle it's immediately apparent that doing the same thing on a tinwhistle is impossible without turning it into a screeching high pitched mess. if there were a way, i'd like to know it.
