Some years ago I bought on-line a whistle and it came with a book of tunes and how to play them. So I practiced the whistle weekly and finely learned to play several songs worth listening to. The key as always is practice, practice, and practice for anything and all things that you would like to be good at. love from New Mexico.

@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Unfortunately no, although I love the sound of the tim whistle. I'm of Irish heritage and my grandfather played the banjo, so, some of his mates would get together and either on a Friday evening or a Saturday, they all would come over to his house and play a lot of traditional Irish music. Of course, I love the music, so I'd pop over to listen. I was just a wee lad, but I was enthralled with the men and their music. My grandad was very good on the banjo and there was a man who played guitar, a couple of fiddle players and there was Dermott, who played the tin whistle. I guess that's when I fell in love with the tin whistle. You'd think that I would have taken lessons from Dermott, but, I never did. It was a grand time back then.

My grandma is from the U.K and she always did her best to keep her culture alive for me. This is by far my favorite part of that. I was classically trained in the Clarinet and later learned Alto Sax and Ocarina. It wasn't until college i was able to get a penny whistle and i took to it like flies on honey. That whistle is long gone but I'm waiting until for the day i can get a replacement and can continue playing. It's an awesome experience and fun instrument to play. You can truly feel it in your spirit when you play.

I am looking for a tin whistle to buy. There are many opinions but I can tell some sound better than others but don't know if it is the whistle or the player that makes the difference. My new years resolution is to learn more Irish tunes. Im Irish, but brought up in Scotland so i learned whistle Scottish style (more tongue separation and the ornamentation is more like the bagpipes). I may be the only person left who can play in that style because all the teaching went Irish style in the 1990s. Which is quite funny as I am actually Irish. So this year i will be learning more Irish tunes.

Tin whistle is an amazing instrument (and the player too) and in my opinion it's one of the best blowing instruments. I am currently learning soprano recorder which in my opinion can sound very similar to some tin whistles. Anyways, thank you for sharing this masterpiece and greetings from Serbia🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸

Hi Phil, It's best to learn with your children. A €10 tin whistle from Amazon gets you the instrument. Then you can start the 'Tin Whistle Basics' course to learn Irish tin whistle in an easy, step by step manner. Here's the first lesson - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZW4eWSHj9t4o5o

I was fortunate enough to go to Christy's house in 2019, what a lovely guy...and all that knowledge. Been going to both Doolin and Dingle each year for about 15 years now, but god how I have missed all the live trad sessions and all the folks there in 2020 due to the pandemic. (Missing Blackie and Cyril especially), but hey...already booked for later this year so here's hoping I can travel and that everyone in Doolin is safe and well. Clare's the home of the music...Up The Banner!

@@onlineacademyofirishmusic I've made several whistles/flutes out of PVC pipe. I made a very low C4 whistle that is incredibly hard to play: it takes too much air, and the holes are too far for my hands. It's a great conversation piece though! I also 3D printed a small double whistle in a very high G# with a drone. That one sounds incredible if I do say myself!
