Imagine charging £20 a roll to paper a whole kitchen, could take all day to use 2 rolls, as bad as charging £20 per hour using the airless sprayer, not in my world, rather stay in bed 😅

I have hung that before, 2 rolls accent wall $350 CDN plus litre of glue 10 pkg snap off blades and 1 hr to prep/seal. In total after taxes $460 ish. And about 2 21/2 hrs labour. One roll I had was creased baby on the bottom but managed to work it out with a spray bottle of water, smoother & patience 😁. So, they will come out.

Hi Phil, if you know any other accounts could you possibly recommend a channel that goes more into building works and explains how to 1) remove old old wallpaper and paint 2) plastering and doing more extensive DIY on walls? I think you've possibly touched on removing wallpaper. Extensive wall work is probably best left to a professional. Even so, it'd be great to understand the process a little. For instance my hallway was plastered badly with bumps everywhere. I previously thought the structure was too poor to paper and one would need to redo the wall. I'm asking myself whether it'd be enough to just use filler etc to get the wall even enough for papering. Thanks for the informative videos on painting--very helpful!

Hi wallpaper striping is here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eomtcnWwgbqSd5Y If you have the time, you can get fillers that are in tubs, which can be applied directly to the bad walls (once all cleaned down and dry) with a brush or a roller, and you skim over to get them smooth the best you can then you sand any of the last bits to get them near perfect. SMIG do one. smig.uk/ Toupret also do similar and others. Hope that helps

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Thanks for the reply and Merry Christmas! I'd hire you any day. Unfortunately I'm in Germany where it is less common to paper, let alone do a feature wallpaper. I still have old wood chip in 2 rooms though, nightmare. I was quoted 5000 to redo a 20m2 room with replastering or 1000 to do a wall of pattern wallpaper and nothing else. I cannot currently afford that. Could you possibly help me with another product: varnish to make paint more durable on high maintenance surfaces such as a wool or painted over paint. Would you recommend polyvine? It's hard to get hold of here, but I heard good things. Is the dulux trade varnish any good, which is easier for me to order online? It shouldn't yellow or change the paint in any way. Thanks a lot again and very interesting you did a Caparol review btw

is the varnish to protect your woodwork, or to go over the wallpaper? PolyVine is very good for wallpaper protection, as long as its a paper surface and not a vinyl shiney face to the paper.

I'm just a DIY-er but i remember doing my nieces bedroom, they asked i thought "got nothing better to do", terrible mistake, a whole bedroom wide vertical line pink and white on council house walls, got half way in and thought "i'd rather pay him so i can go home", one particular panel was around an air vent, socket, behind the radiator on the right side, higher up it was around the window sill and onto the inside window (and above the window on the main wall) Managed it and it turned out well but i hated every minute, didn't have blades either so it was all scissors, never again.

What is the paste you use if you can’t get the harlequin paste?

The paste I used in the video was from Wickes. You can also use any good quality tub paste.

Hi Phil, I did a feature wall for a customer back in May this year, wallpaper was from Morris&Co, £85 a roll, the walls were sized but not lined, (paste the wall paper)just before I did the wallpapering they had a log burner fitted which they’ve now been using on a regular basis, I got called back a week ago( 6 months later)to have a look at a problem, in some places the seams have started coming apart and bubbling up, I’ve done lots of papering and never had a problem before. The only thing I can say I did wrong was not use the recommended adhesive, I used Wickes own brand. I just wondered whether you or any other decs have come across this and would a combination of the log burner and not using the recommended adhesive caused this. I’ve agreed with the customer to re do the job but should I also line the walls this time.

Hi... First off I'd of lined it ;) What paste was recommended? Maybe their own brand, but then more than likely it says or 'equivalent'. Which will more than likely be tub Paste.. in any brand.

I think the heat of the burner will be an issue with anything around it. Let's hope they're not drying anything near it too giving moisture off which will help strip the paper I think, strip it. Clean down and re size well. Line it with the same paste as you'll use for the finish paper. You could always go for the stronger BeeLine paste. But TBH... I don't think you need that with a normal paste the wall paper. The Wickes paste straight out should be enough.

@@stephenroberts668 I've just had a look at the William Morris papers, it's all under the Sanderson group. The paste doesn't read anything special. It says only dilute if told to. Going on experience of the other PTW papers in the Sanderson group I've done .. Sion, harlequin etc... I've used Wickes paste on all of them.... But I did line first.

Was thinking about these videos and why professionals would give away there hard earned knowledge for free, encouragement for diyers to have a go instead of hiring tradesmen, it's not right imo, just like the public having access to trade paints etc, fuming, am I wrong 😡

Don't panic. DIYers won't be looking to pay a decorator anyway... Or they advertise on marketplace for it to be done for £40. Those who pay for a decorator won't be even thinking about doing it themselves.

Because not everyone has the time Or knowledge on what to do. It takes years and years to get it correct so nothing to worry about. We’ll still keep our jobs even with giving out tips and tricks. Take someone like Gordon Ramsay for instance, he shows the technique and how to cook certain dishes. Doesn’t mean everyone can do exactly what he has done. It takes years and years to master your craft, the average diy”er won’t have all that experience.
