My province grants me $2,000 towards the purchase of a pair of new hearing aids every 5 years so I need to make sure they last beyond Costco’s 3-year warranty and 5 years. (Costco charged me $2,100 so I only paid $100.) Since new technology offers new features, I don’t need them to last forever, just 5 years.

Yes Costco has 3 years warranty. Anything 5 years or later the manufacturer won’t service them. If it’s passed 3 years but before 5 years, you can pay for the out of warranty fee which is generally $135 plus tax for each hearing aid. Then it comes with one year warranty.

It’s worth it to buy and use a quality dehumidifier to dry out the hearing aids every day.

I have a pair of hearing aids for 14 years and they are still working. I clean the mics and speaker weekly and dry every night. The techs complimented me on the cleanliness and the lifetime of usage.

Thanks for the video it's a lot of help. How about rechargeable models? How long do the batteries last? Can they be replaced and at what cost?
@HearingClub
@HearingClub 8 ай бұрын
Yes they can be replaced. The hearing aids have a 3 yr warranty. The moment you notice less battery capacity, we will send the hearing aids out to have the battery replaced. If this happens AFTER the warranty is over, at this time, the cost would be 135.00 for an out of warranty repair.

To keep your hearing aids dry get a container that is sealed and put uncooked rice in the bottom, maybe put a small tray or piece of mesh on top of the rice and put your hearing aids on the tray. You can do this each night and change the rice every week. Also good as an emergency measure for any electronics that get wet. Simply take the battery out and cover with rice, leave for a day or two. This will increase your chances of salvage success.

right? NOBODY tells anybody to do that, and i think its because normally, as hearing aid salespeople, we want your hearing aids to stop working so we can sell you new ones. But im here to shed light on all this bs so you are well informed. You are welcome my friend!

I always brushed and changed my domes and wax guards religiously, but never used a brush for the microphones because nobody told me about doing it. I panicked when after 6 years, one of my hearing aids didn’t work. New batteries didn’t work. Changing the dome and the wax guard didn’t help. I called my audiologist in a panic and she said to simply brush the microphone openings. (The hearing aid tech who sold me the hearing aids never mentioned brushing the microphones.) Sure enough, that solved the problem.

Thank you so much for the very valuable information. The place where I got the hearing aids (HearUSA) didn’t tell me absolutely anything on how to care or maintained these type of devices. Shouldn’t this be a common practice?

I have the Resound rechargeable model with the charging case. I was told that this case is also a dehumidifier. Is this correct?
@HearingClub
@HearingClub 9 ай бұрын
no it is not, not at all. There are some cases that double as a moisture removal system or dehumidifier but this case is haha... Not the case. You will want to grab yourself a dryer or even a drying cup. Or... you can find a small container with a lid and put a silica packet in it. Anything like that would be better than nothing.

Thanks. I was not told this on my first 2 hearing aid sets. I keep learning and just noticed Starkey added a drying box to the cleaning instructions. Yes, just. I read those instructions overcand over when i got them in Oct 23. It was just wipe them off, but i was having so much ear pain . Talked w my audio. Talkd to Starkey. Redid the mold on one. Found .. also too much moisture. I was using the decicant packs, but they don't last long. Switching to a dryer. Is this one ok for rechargeable HAs too? I like the short drying time of this one vs the flow med sitting overvthe charger. Hesitant on the heat feature of the perfect dry.

Ya it’s fine for rechargeable aids. It works great. Costco wouldn’t sell something that “could” mess up everyone’s aids. There isn’t a lot of heat, just enough to dry the aids.

Hello me again. I have the Jabra 20 that are rechargeable ( I explain for others, I now that you know:) Do I need to turn off my Jabra 20 "off" each time I put them in the Perfect Dry Lux to dry? I don't mind the interference noise, I don't heard it. Thanks
@HearingClub

It’s fine, I would turn them off personally since it’s using your battery but it shouldn’t cause any issues.

Do you use the black brush on Jabra mics?
@HearingClub
@HearingClub 9 ай бұрын
Absolutely! The front and rear mic. I actually have 2 brushes i use at work. I take a lair of scissors and cut the bristles really short on one brush so it's a real stiff brush, on the 2nd brush, I cut the bristles a tiny bit and leave them a little longer.

There are no guarantees in life, but if the norm is 3yr without a dryer, ballpark how much more life with a dryer? Thanks.
@HearingClub
@HearingClub 10 ай бұрын
Dryer helps keep our moisture and swear. If you don’t sweat then you should be fine without one. If you sweat a lot then dryer will be beneficial and help you make it to 3 years or longer. No dryer and you sweat alot, you will notice some problems, receiver shortage, microphone issues, corrosion with batteries.
