I’ve been thinking about the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a firm Best Actress front runner and I was wondering why people don’t think that Demi Moore wouldn’t run a grassroots campaign given her connections. I feel like if Andrea Risborough could get in, Demi Moore definitely could, and probably will, given the hype for her performance.
@mr293 ай бұрын
I think the film's emphasis on body horror severely hurts her chances. IF she can win a major critics group award - such as LAFCA or NYFCC - that would greatly improve her odds.
@Sharpe15023 ай бұрын
@@mr29 I think that if it was 5 years ago and if the lead actress was an unknown and the topic was different, there’d be no chance. But it’s Demi Moore. It’s about an aging actress and it’s about the unrealistic beauty expectations of industry, etc.. I think that other actresses and even actors will be able to relate to the thematic elements, and the international voters are way less squeamish about body horror. I’m pretty sure that’s why Poor Things and Triangle of Sadness even got in.
@gule553 ай бұрын
But Risborough film is about an alcoholic trying to fix her life (very oscarish performance). Moore film is a body horror, that kind of films get 0 attraction to Oscars and Moore is seeing more as a sex symbol rather than an actual actress.

IMO: 1. Anora 2. Emilia Perez 3. Conclave 4. The Brutalist 5. Sing Sing 6. Dune Part II 7. Nickel Boys 8. A Complete Unknown 9. The Room Next Door 10. The Seed of the Sacred Fig

Sing Sing felt like a Best Picture winner when I watched it. Nomadland but more accessible, great performances , “important” subject matter, hits you in the feels. Could see it doing a CODA (but it’s better than CODA I think)
@patriciascolafeleppa55423 ай бұрын
Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.

Y’all need to update the Emilia Perez screenplay category placement. It’s adapted, not original.
@JoshFriedman7863 ай бұрын
It probably won't get into either category anyway because no musical in this century has gotten into screenplay except La La Land and Chicago. Also having seen Emilia Pérez, the weakest aspect is definitely the script.

@@JoshFriedman786 how are Karla, Zoe, Selena, and the songs though?
@JoshFriedman7863 ай бұрын
@@zacharyjohnston1957 Pretty good, I'd say Zoe Saldana has the strongest role and Karla is not in it as much as you would think, she has probably same screentime as Lily Gladstone. Selena is great but she doesn't have much to do in the story and I'm not confident she's Oscar bound. The songs are okay but they feel like telenovela songs because they're all in Spanish. Your mileage may vary but I didn't exactly jive with the music, let's say.

@JoshFriedman786 If the movie is a Best Picture contender, it can very well sweep in, though.
@JoshFriedman7863 ай бұрын
@@KaiOpaka Uh... I don't think so! Spielberg’s West Side Story got into Best Picture and it missed Adapted Screenplay when it was a far better written musical than Emilia Pérez. Emilia Pérez portrays Latin culture in a much more questionable and polarizing way.

I'm not sure if it would've really made a difference for Saturday Night to be a World Premiere --> Anora and Emilia Pérez weren't and have been already buzzed about for months. In fact, with how rare it is for Cannes films to place (especially the Palme d'or winner), the fact that they still managed to place - and over Saturday Night - is pretty big. Saturday Night is a movie made for audiences like TIFF so for it not to place seems pretty fatal. I'm waiting for Saturday Night to have the Glass Onion/Hit Man effect, where TIFF is the film's highest peak and it ends up getting maybe Screenplay on its best day.

Secrets and Lies like what!!!!! 3.) Nightbitch will be a popular film for my friends, lol, based on the name alone and if it is also getting Oscar buzz.. watch out! 4.) Why are you both concerned with Bleeker Street Films?? You know something the general public doesn't? It is closing? 5.) I couldn't watch the last 14 mins of The Substance. It's a 2 1/2 hour Gore Film... and at a 1 1/2 I thought it was at peak crazy... it wasn't even starting. 6.) Isabella Rossellini gets in. Judi Dench won. Ruby Dee had one scene, really, and was nominated. 7.) Thank you, two! So excited to hear about a lot of these films for the first time!
