Just as you can measure the voltage of individual blocks of 3 you can charge individual groups and I here would charge them to get the top bank to 3.94v each to match the lower bank. I would then put the battery on a shelf somewhere and wait a week and measure again. This will help work out if the low cells have a self-discharge problem or if they went flat because they have less capacity that the others which is terminal. The BMS will try to rebalance cells but, if you have not used the battery for a long while, self-discharge may have taken some cells so far out of balance the BMS can't fix things.Sometimes re-balancing all the cells to the same charged voltage will make the battery usable with improved range once more - for a while.

Ok. I understand that. But how do you do that? I bought a bike,and inherited a bad battery. 5 or 6 miles per charge,and that's it. How can that be fixed. I'm on a fixed income ,so I can't really afford a new battery.🤷🤷🤷

If cells are unbalanced. I connected some computer fans to discharge the higher cells to match the lower cells then charge the whole pack. A bms discharge bypass could solve the cut out however you need to monitor the LVC.

Hi. I have a lithium battery pack of 6 which puts out 7.2 volts, it charges but the charge doesn't last long only around 5 minutes,i have the same battery packs that last 20 minutes What would you suggest to do to get it back to a proper out put? Many thanks Spike.

Do you consider problematic receiving new lithium ion cells at 3.44v? I received my new 21700 Samsung INR 40T3 4.000mA, 35A cells from well known european company NK.. with 3.44v. Is that too low? I've builded an 2.8 kw 24s8p battery for an electric paramotor and has a huge voltage drop at 10-17kw full throttle and it should handle it like other similar batteries. I'm trying to find out why. Thanks.

3.4V charge per cell is too low for high output applications so it is normal for the voltage spike dipping too low.. Charge it up to at least 3.6V or greater per cell.

Good video sir, Thank you.. I have one query to ask you, i purchased some lithium ion battery that are measuring different voltages for example some of them 3.6V, 3.8 V and 4.0 can I mix all cells together in parallel connection?

They should be brought to the same voltage before connected together so you should either all charge them to the max or discharge them to bring them back to a level that is close in between

So maybe i missed the answer to my question, but if you can narrow it down to a single pack can i not just disable it for lack of a better term? And then have my battery working again even if at just 2/3 of the original potential?

No you can't disable it , also replacing is not a good idea because the packs need to be the same age and specs ...

Some bypass the BMS output side but keep the BMS charging input. It would monitor the charge but not the discharge so you have to have a gauge to monitor the LVC yourself

nice way to blow out the battery, burn the house or whatever. Deeply discharged li-ion can grow a copper electrode or make a short cut because of dissolved copper ions in electrolite and blow up a single cell that is enough to start a chain reaction in neighbour cells. So it probably will work for a while, but then it can BOOM.

My 48V ebike battery shows nothing on charge indicator on actual battery. When I connect battery to bike no power, when I connect wall charger to batter nothing just green light on wall charger indicator? Any suggestion to resolve this or is there a shop who works on these? I hate to toss battery as its only 2 yrs old with little run time very few hrs.

Not only does the BMS turn off the battery pack output if the batteries are out of balance, it also turns off the charging input so the battery will not take a charge. I had the same issue on a 48V pack. I did exactly what was shown here, measured the individual packs and found one that was very low. I charged the pack with a current limited bench power supply until the voltage was back in balance with the rest of the packs and the charger then started working again.

i need help i have a bms which had low batteries,i disconnected the bms and i charged them all up to 3.7 so they are all balanced the bms gives 48v at the charge connector and 1.6v at the power connector...is the bms dead ?? or does it need reset or something i dont have 52v charger.

Maybe bad BMS .. it reads wrong . How much power you got in it, This charger too as low as you can and then put it on a watt meter to charge and see how much power it can draw

Difference between weak and strong one matters more.The cells voltages are from 3V to 4,2V at full charge.

on laptops if you change one cell the bms will cut the power and you have to reprogram it to fix the battery, in scooter doesent do that? you can change them with no problem?

Depends of the BMS but if you buy a laptop that is too smart then it might do that but usually the dumb stuff doesn't care and scooters have dumb BMSs

A bms on each cell would be cool, but it would drive the price up too much of a whole battery pack. Many BMS are actually the culprit in my experience. So, on my ebike, i replaced bms board a few times, but got tired of it and now just run an RCD unit which cuts out if shorted. I closely monitor the battery when charging and discharging, and have had a few batteries like this. I have had one early on in experimenting that wasnt great, I pushed it too hard, it got too hot and I had to pull it off the bike. It wasnt enclosed, not many cells there, but was stupidly wrapped in cardboard 😂 so it caught fire. Oops. I did manage to recover most of the cells and they worked in another pack for about 18 months without a bms. If you make the batteries using good ebike battery cells, and monitor them whilst charging and discharging, and use more cells than the maximum capacity of the system, then you should be ok without a bms. But only if you know what you let yourself in for. Even with bms, these batteries are very unstable and as sensitive a woman at that time of the month. 😂 Use a bms and some kind of fuse. Dont tamper with it unless you know what you are doing and dont just think you know. Even the most experienced and knowledgeable make mistakes and these batteries are a bit mental. But great when they do operate well.😊

I think the problem is the balancing in the bms system to discharge the 4.2v cell to 3.6 and looking at all the battery if it is the same problem. Change the bms system

use a hobby charger.no bms as charger balances every time,reads cells and uses larger BMS to even pack..mind you 48 volt not good product..36 volt or 24 volt great

If you use average cells. They will fail. If you use a hobby charger you can stay ahead of the issue with bms DEAD IN WATER
