Dear Julian: i notice you blocked me... after you claimed thst you seek open discussion and free exchange of ideas. JUST LIKE YOU BLOCKED ME, JULIAN- ITS THE LEFTISTS WHO ARE AGAINST FREE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS AND OPEN DISCUSSION. You have exemplified the hypocrisy VERY well by blocking me, baby boy. THE PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL COURT SAID THERE IS NO GENOCIDE. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF STARVATION.

That last 8 minutes needs unpacking: I trust the next talk does that and truly de-mystifies, because the metaphorical ‘switchbacks’ can be confusing & confounding.

Thanks for this video - it is really helpful. Could you please say a bit more about how you think Jordan Peterson departs from Freud? You say that according to the Victorian Morality model, one needs to repress the inner monster in order to be the enlightened human being. So according to this view, you don’t sublimate your drives but instead repress them. Now, you say Peterson follows this Victorian model when he says one needs to embrace one’s inner dark side. But to me, this sounds more like sublimation. One way Peterson puts it (following Jung) is that you need to ‘integrate your shadow’ into your personality. By this, I take it he means something akin to what is outlined in the Heine story, i.e., channelling a potentially destructive and violent drive into something higher and socially beneficial. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Hi Julian! Long time fan here. I also would like you to discuss traditional psychoanalytic theory in relation to how Peterson thinks of it. Stan Canner has an interesting point.

Great explanation of a complex dynamic! By the way, I think Butler’s preferred pronouns are they/them, but it’s not obligatory.

Thank you, you are correct. It’s still a bit hard for me in the moment to remember. Appreciate this.
