this lecture is brilliant. i see mirrored in the use of zizekian pop-culture references, (which is itself also doing what you describe, arriving at philosophical insights using "just a movie", arguably something mundane, silly, in some sense profane) the exact philosophy that you are describing, using the turns in itself to describe it, so to speak ... i like very much how you succeed at this "working thought through, to arrive at thought" in a very actual way ... anyway i hope i'm not misunderstanding you julian ^^

In France, Marcel Gauchet tackled this subject, arguing the world became inherently political when Jesus died on the cross as God. It separated religious and political essences, ending one and starting another.

THE WORLD RULER TRIES TO KILL ME And then a voice of the world ruler came to the angels: “I am god and there is no other god but me.” But I laughed joyfully when I examined his conceit. But he went on to say, “Who is the human?” And the entire host of his angels who had seen Adam and his dwelling were laughing at his smallness. And thus did their thought come to be removed outside the majesty of the heavens, away from the human of truth, whose name they saw, since he is in a small dwelling place. They are foolish and senseless in their empty thought, namely, their laughter, and it was contagion for them. The whole greatness of the fatherhood of the spirit was at rest in its places. And I was with him, since I have a thought of a single emanation from the eternal ones and the unknowable ones, undefiled and immeasurable. I placed the small thought in the world, having disturbed them and frightened the whole multitude of the angels and their ruler. And I was visiting them all with fire and flame because of my thought. And everything pertaining to them was brought about because of me. And there came about a disturbance and a fight around the seraphim and cherubim, since their glory will fade, and there was confusion around Adonaios on both sides and around their dwelling, up to the world ruler and the one who said, “Let us seize him.” Others again said, “The plan will certainly not materialize.” For Adonaios knows me because of hope. And I was in the mouths of lions. And as for the plan that they devised about me to release their error and their senselessness, I did not succumb to them as they had planned. And I was not afflicted at all. Those who were there punished me, yet I did not die in reality but in appearance, in order that I not be put to shame by them because these are my kinsfolk. I removed the shame from me, and I did not become fainthearted in the face of what happened to me at their hands. I was about to succumb to fear, and I suffered merely according to their sight and thought so that no word might ever be found to speak about them. For my death, which they think happened, happened to them in their error and blindness, since they nailed their man unto their death. Their thoughts did not see me, for they were deaf and blind. But in doing these things, they condemn themselves. Yes, they saw me; they punished me. It was another, their father, who drank the gall and the vinegar; it was not I. They struck me with the reed; it was another, Simon, who bore the cross on his shoulder. It was another upon whom they placed the crown of thorns. But I was rejoicing in the height over all the wealth of the rulers and the offspring of their error, of their empty glory. And I was laughing at their ignorance. "Some first follow the true Savior but then turn away to worship a dead man." - the revelation of Peter

This is well said. But a quicker cleaner route comes from underneath you are forced to ask forgiveness from someone who has harmed you in Christianity. And this is, of course, reprehensible.

Christ was crucified because he went against the Law of the Hebrews. With Christ you don’t need the Jewish law (Torah) you can be saved without the law. This is the context of the time Christ lived and explains a lot.

In my opinion, I think that this position on Christianity is selective and uses specific concepts to create and justify a position, far from the intended meaning communicated in the source material (the Bible) itself. The assertion that in God becoming incarnate, suffering and dying, he communicates there is an obscene core to meaning itself, stands only when you take Christianity at face value. There is no divine silence within Christianity; God directly engaged in our world as a human, and then through the person of The Holy Spirit, inspired texts which when compiled into the Bible, engage and speak to many each day. It's also believed that the Holy Spirit guides, and comforts us. And that all of reality -as the creation of an infinitely powerful being that infinitely loves it- is inherently purposeful and incomprehensibly meaningful. It is THE creation. It is ALL that exists but God. It is the only and the most important thing to exist outside of the infinite being that is God. God became human to allow us to be renewed through what he taught, and what his incarnation means. Renewed in that we may be able to draw closer to God than possible before and therefore eachother too, as in learning through God what true love is, we may truly love each other. In Christianty God is perfect: they have infinite perfect love for everyone, their arms are always open to us, and they are the source of all that is good - they are infinitely and perfectly good. To sin is to reject God, and in doing so you reject goodness and move closer to 'badness'. So when God became human, they became the first human to have the perfect relationship with God, they had perfect love, perfect goodness, and yet they were a human. The event of the incarnation meant that by looking to Jesus, we can see what it mean, what it looks like, to be close to God, and through their teaching how to go about getting there. This is why the incarnation is so important and meaningful. Jesus died as the ultimate act of love. They were mocked and spat on and kicked as they walked and bore their cross, and their response was no reaction, they had no resentment, only love and pain (pain is part of being human). They willingly gave themselves up and died, not to show that 'there is no secret' but to show that the secret is to live with so much love that you are willing to give yourself up for others. And through their resurrection they showed God and love is greater than death, that there is eternal life. Jesus didnt die and come back having lost the human part of himself, he was still fully God and fully human, to show that through learning to live in love we too may have eternal life. I am sorry if this is convoluted and difficult to read. If you have any questions or responses please respond :) And to Julian, thank you for making the content you do, for sharing your thoughts and findings with the world. I love how you combine philosophy from popular media with academic philosophy and weave them seamlessly together to help give us a better understanding. Love from the Netherlands! 🇳🇱❤️

The analysis of the existence and characteristics of a god is one of the worst uses that one can give to their neurological system. Life is short. The universe is too interesting (us included) to consider religious phenomena as something based on a supernatural reality.

Suggestions: Get dressed, next time, and actually study, so you don't have to covertly refer to a script every 5 seconds. Stop raising your eyebrows constantly. Set a scene. The dog cage and Tupperware are not intellectually inspiring. It's not hard. A suit jacket; a few books; a cup of coffee. You have to want to do this, though.

I have a question on the true Hegelian Master and true freedom idea...because you say at a point that just doing anything and everything actually manages to only constrict and deviate you from your true meaning or your true freedom....I believe though I have met people with such unexpected behavior doing everything and nothing All at once....and I could really argue that the essence of this way of living IS what makes them truly free....I'm not someone to know however I'm just posing a question of mine

Life is a satire, a theatrical play, and you choose your character. What can you do? How can I benefit from your skills? Life is a trade, give and take. I am a poet and artist and all I want is to be understood. I claim I have discovered atheism is a logical fallacy that assumes God is the religious idea of the creator of the creation to conclude wrongly no creator exists because a particular idea of God doesn’t exist. Do you think the discovery is a joke? I am not joking because I want my Nobel Prizes. Atheism is a misunderstanding of reality and the truth matters because innocent and vulnerable children are being told the lie is the truth. God exists as certain as I exist because logically it is impossible the existence of the creation without the creator. Logically what has a beginning of existence must be created from what is eternal. Regardless of when the universe was created God existed always before. Time is running out and is eternal. Do you want to witness the end of religion? Emergency! Share! Thank you.
