The actual key to the Church of the Sepulcher is held, and has been held for 800 years, by the same Muslim family in Jerusalem. The reason for this is that the six warring Christian factions could not agree on who was to have custody of the key, so they gave up and asked this family to essentially keep them from acting like adults.

Which I think is a wonderful lesson in why identity politics is such a bad thing. Here is a Muslim family helping their Christian neighbors, while other Muslims would probably want to kill them. Some Muslims would do neither. But they're all Muslims. Conclusion, just because you're the member of One group doesn't mean you're going to behave a certain way. We are all ultimately individuals.

I guess it would go quickly from the chair to the principle of the thing. Suddenly you are not fighting over a chair, but someone not respecting common rules. Thus you have five sides thinking the other one is judging itself to be above others while that one is refusing the allegations on sensible grounds that it was just a chair, but omitting what precedent it sets, and then you have tensions rising and then someone brings up that lunch that someone forgot behind the table and its rotting there for quarter of the century because nobody said it was theirs and others dont want to agree on removing it on principle and then somebody shouts, somebody shoves and suddenly fists go flying. But nobody died, so I would consider it success.

Easy fix to get rid of the ladder... Just tie enough helium balloons to it to make it float, then get a drone with a rope or something tied around its middle with a hook on the end, and use the drone to move the ladder. However... Do the tying of the balloons in such a way as to prevent the touching of any part of the ladder... It won't be violating the law cos *no individual has moved the ladder*

@xXxSkyViperxXx6 жыл бұрын
cuz when you think about it again. all the old pictures depict the ladder being there for centuries so why just casually move it when you can leave it there for the rest of its existence for its historicity
@kalvincastro90426 жыл бұрын
It might’ve been originally the case, but eventually some people may see it as “important to the building”, but maybe there are those few who say “I’m just tired of this BS ladder, giving us another reason to fight”.
@brendancoulter57615 жыл бұрын

Answering a 4yr old comment, wew. You have to imagine, those Churches developed different reasons over time and that ladder started to become a symbol in itself. The Catholics for example said at some point that they would agree to move the ladder when they reunite with the Orthodox Churches (which will never happen btw).

Megasmallcow - what? I didn't say anything about that at all. Idk what that even is. What's the Christian dark age myth?
@MegaSmallCow7 жыл бұрын
Josh Battershell there's a myth that science didn't progress in the dark ages because the church keep executing and prosecuted scientist and if weren't for evil old Christians we would be in a space age. that's what your "keeps us from advancing too much" implies. it's obviously false as scientists like Albertus Magnus, Robert Grosseteste, Roger Bacon, John Peckham, Duns Scotus, Thomas Bradwardine, Walter Burley, William Heytesbury, Richard Swineshead, John Dumbleton, Richard of Wallingford, Nicholas Oresme, Jean Buridan and Nicholas of Cusa existed. the only scientist in the dark ages executed was galileo in the middle ages and that was for telling the pope he was an asshat.
