they both survive if you rescue the tieflings from moonrise and managed to convince rolan to stay at the grove (i believe rolan is the key to bex's survival specifically, danis will get to rivington without him)

That seems about right! They’re alive in all my play-throughs so far. For the moonrise tower part, it’s so much easier to get rid of the guards before you do the prison break. Sneaky attack ftw!

I love the little animation of her awkwardly and repeatedly pointing off to the side looking for an excuse to leave. In such a massive game it's impressive to see little emotive details like that put into such easy to miss dialogue.

If you read "An Open Letter on Oppression and Peacocks" you learn that you can't bring any animal bigger than a peacock into Baldur's Gate.

What Dolores said. Also, when testing it with druid forms and other animal companions it's surprisingly accurate. If you try to enter with an animal too large the guards will actually tell you to leave.
