Actually, the No Limits M3 GTR can be considered canon because Razor comes to Blackridge (No Limits city) to get to back M3 GTR and we learn that it is #1 in Blackridge Blacklist and try to knock it down. Kim (the girl who helped us with no limits) also mentions Rockport. So the No Limits M3 GTR could be the real M3 GTR rather than a replica.

Not really, correct me if I'm wrong but they never used the M3 as marketing for any game (apart from being a dlc in most wanted 2012), but rather as a bonus or special vehicle usually at the end of the game. So yeah they use it because obviously they know is probably the easiest way to get he fans happy but I don't think it's for the money

I can tell y'all why the M3 GTR sounds the way it does Back when the car was being used in the 24 hours of LeMan, they swapped out the traditional 6-speed manual transmission with a sequential gearbox with straight cut gears, which creates that high-pitched whine as you climb into the higher RPM range As for the V8, it was a prototype motor that never saw production after its use in the M3 GTR

I think "The Blacklist" from Unbound is either the MC from U1, 2, MW, Carbon or even crazier Razor. Think about it, roughly 15 years passed since Razor went in prison for street racing, he would be free by the time Unbound happens, given all the games happen in the year they were released (roughly)

So after Speedie's turn Mercer's gang intercepted it from the delivery chain to Razor, and now it's with the Heat protagonist. The pink slip is likely still with Razor if it wasn't in the car when we took it back in MW'05.

The M3 GTR was an odd choice at first but fit in so well with MostWanted´s other Blacklist cars. The others cars arent the flashy Underground cars but more GT inspired and have alot more serious and darker tone. The many IRL MostWanted M3 Replicas show that it is achievable in the looks department while that famous V8 gearboy whine can only be had with the few real racecars that got built :) Sadly I think EA milked this car a bit too much instead of focusing on new unique Halo cover cars...

6:31 actually, in NFS ProStreet, you can't buy it, but in some rare occasions, in some events, a BMW M3 with this livery appears, but the car is silver with the white livery (at least in my gameplays), and is rare ASF, I only saw this in 4 occasions when I was playing the career mode (I made the game 100% and it was only in drift events for some reason). So, yes and no at the same time.

I am 90% convinced that the car is actually cursed (blessed?) with supernatural black magic or something, in the "NFS cinematic universe". The way it always appears wherever there is some new hot races and police chases going on and appears before the "protagonist", whoever that is; and how it almost always manages to appear fully repaired and ready to wreck havoc despite crashing on multiple occasions (e.g. at the start of Carbon and at the end of Heat)

In Need For Speed Heat , you can get the real sound of the M3 GTR with a mod called UNITE that changes the transmision and engine sound from the original NFS Most Wanted and carbon , with that mod is the most realistic car from the original and from all NFS games on date.

My honest theory is that nfs heat is the origin of the m3 gtr and not rockport. The player character in 05 is not an established character (eventhough people like to say its Ryan Cooper...its not)...I believe the character in 05 and carbon is your character in heat. (Ik the cutscenes show a white guy as the player but still, the characters identity remains unknown)...So you leave carbon and begin your story in underground, then underground 2...then before you go to rockport, you go to palm city, where you get the car as a thank you for ridding the city of corrupt cops. THEN you go to rockport...Everything that happened in rockport with you and the car has made such a massive impact on street racing as a whole in need for speed that you gained a massive following of fans who went and built replicas (hence why 2012, 2015, undercover, and payback has a false m3 gtr to use)....Either way, the car was totaled off in carbon and was gone....then the protagonist may have moved to lakeshore, and had the car shipped over under the radar, for the protagonist in unbound to deliver.

@Damian-cilr2 the only moment that I'm aware of that most wanted becomes aware of its time was when Mia first mentions cross in a voice-mail, stating that he drives a "C6 Corvette" (which was brand new at the time)...but I mean, you can say that nowadays too since there are far newer models of corvettes now. Nfs heat never really acknowledges its time at all other than the Cross memorial bridge which is just a small Easter egg. (If the bridge lore is ever confirmed to be canonical then my entire theory is fucked. so I don't like to mention the bridge).

This car can also be recreated in NFS Shift & Shift 2. What you have to do is get an E46 M3, fully upgrade it, get the Works conversion kit, and then you just replicate the livery. There is a preset livery in Shift 1 tho that looks vaguely like it, but it’s still not close.

You actually missed an appearance. In prostreet at one of the organizations (I think it's G-effect) there is an AI M3 E46 that is done up to resemble the M3 GTR. There is one major change however, all the blue on the car is changed to a dark grey.

I wanna do my best to contribute to this theory As mentioned from a comment i saw these cars can be mass produced and the manufacturer has no budget and is unlimited and could be multiple so. My theory: After the car was "totaled" in carbon during the chase in carbon canyon someone found the m3 gtr and knowing its history found replacement parts and eventually restored it fully after the restoration mercer heard that it was restored and wanted to get his hands on the bmw m3 gtr and eventually got his hands on it during the scheme. and once it was found out ran but failed to escape. after the player gets its hands on the m3 gtr they sell it to some person and going to unbound. when hearing about the m3 gtr and asked to get it from "the blacklist" finds it and manages to steal the car and deliver it i speculate "the blacklist" to be razor for razor being released by now and wanting it back just like in speed most wanted 2005

What I think happened was the car was truly totaled but this was around the time rebuilding techniques started to drastically evolve to rebuilding a totaled car started to take shape . So likely a spare e46 was used to help rebuild the GTR you can tell by the trunk that it has in both need for speed, heat and unbound, but I think the protagonist for he sold the car because of how hot the car was from its days in Rockport and they didn't want to take any chances . But to make an E46 look like a GTR is not that difficult at all If you know what you're doing, we'll get the other e46s to look like the GTR in most wanted on Instagram and social media and you'll see what I'm talking about

In NFS Pro Street, there are some appearance of an e46 AI with the livery, but it's gray / white coloured, not blue like the OG. It's very rare appearance, in my few playtrough I only see it 2 times at drift events.

I know im late to the party but can we really believe that in NFS Heat we are just...gifted a highly notorious car after it's been wrecked again and possibly involved in a possibility blue on blue..."incident". I find that very hard to believe. I think it's more possible it was taken to a police impound, locked up till bought and restored where we... somehow steal it in Unbound. There's also the EA rewards M3 GTR in online but I don't think that should be included. Replica maybe? But not included.

There's no telling how the player got the paperwork & documents (pinkslip) of the bmw m3 gtr. as there is no way he can buy one legally as it's not road legal and it is not possible to buy a stock m3 and put the parts on it because such parts are not available to the public, there's two ways the player could've gotten it: he must've been racing legally for some time or somehow snuck into a legal race and when he got behind the wheel of an m3 gtr he somehow bailed the race and escaped the track then applied his own livery to it. or he could've found an abandoned m3 gtr and repaired it with the sponsorship money from nfsug2

i can kinda defend the 2012 M3 GTR. The GTRs back then (Before the birth of the P60B40 V8) originally did use a racing version of the S54B32 6-Cy. it did have the straight cut gear transmission, BBS RE-594/595 wheels, a full roll cage, a side exhaust and a racing fuel filler. BMW was getting their ass beat by Porsche and other cars to the point where BMW have had enough of their shit and decided to make the Devil fruit of the GTR (aka P60B40) and then BMW is now the ones Kicking Porsche's ass and Dominated the A. Le Mahns Series (American Le Mahns) but i think it never actually did compete at an official Le Mahns series. just a little fun fact: BMW said they were going to make 10 GTRs but only made 6 and only 3 of em were ever sold. Pretty sure a lot of you guys already know these facts so just ignore this comment. sorry if my english is slightly broken cuz it is not my first language.

I really feel like they're just putting it in the game for nostalgia sake. I know it's a beloved car by the fanbase but I'd honestly rather have them do something new and interesting instead of hearkening back to old stuff like this even when it would make absolutely no sense for this car to be in the game. I really felt bummed out when I saw Mercer trying to make his escape in Heat in the M3 GTR, it really felt like a cheap way to include it in the game honestly

4:30 a car is only totaled, if the owner says it is, the player spent god knows how long earning that car back, only for the game to go “yeah it’s broke now” BULL. He would’ve gotten it fixed. If they said that and made it unavailable until the mid to late game, that would’ve been cool.

also as seen on the interior shots of the the m3 in most wanted it infact does not have a full race interior when you first meet cross you see the drivers side door panel which is just a road version m3 there is also a road version m3 gtr which im pretty sure is the base of the m3 gtr we get to see but that player just engine swapped it and modified to give it the look of the le man car but is actually just the road version of the gtr
