Congrats on making food. I mean it. Sometimes that is a big accomplishment especially if you are fighting something like anxiety/depression. Hope you're doing okay. It's funny that you're a traveling doctor, and your husband is a web developer. My boyfriend is currently a traveling physical therapist, and I'm a data analyst/graphic designer. We've been moving around during the pandemic to some awesome places in the US, but it's going to be over soon because my workplace is restarting in-office operations. My bf and I always figured having a family meant staying put in one place, but hearing your story is inspiring!

I lived in Hawaii briefly for work. I admittedly have mixed feelings when I see news of someone moving there. On the one hand I absolutely loved it there, it’s so beautiful-the landscape, the culture, the history-and I think everyone who has the chance should visit. But on the other hand, after living there I learned more about Hawaii’s tragic history with colonialism and tourism, which has contributed to Native homelessness as mainlanders and people from other countries move in, develop, inflate property values, and make it harder for Native and long-time residents to afford to live in their own home. So as much as I loved the place, it didn’t feel ethical for me, a white mainlander, to stay. I realize it makes me a bit of a hypocrite to preach to others about not moving there since I already did, though. I also don’t know how much one white person choosing not to stay really helps Native causes. I guess I just want to say: I’m happy you have this opportunity, but I’m also glad it’s temporary, and I hope everyone who moves to Hawaii has done their research on colonialism and Native history, and is making an informed decision about it.
@lenawagenfuehr53

Thanks for this...people need to be aware of the ramifications of their tourism/nomadic lifestyle on the natives. In Western Europe, there was the bubble economy where everyone thought it was chic to have a holiday home in Eastern Europe. They never learned the language or got in away acclimated, just drove the property/rental prices up...and got stuck with huge debts and negative equity when the bubble burst. (And ended up joining the natives they never got to know in economic misery!)

See and I'm the opposite but my husband is a homebody. His military family was constantly moving so I understand. I know not every mil fam is like that or is transferred as often but picking up and moving sucks, especially when you have kids and a full house of items. He is getting used to vacations together though. I would be on the move all the time if we both could agree on how much stuff we could do during the day during a vacation. 😂

Man!!!! I hadn't followed any of this, but me and my wife (the doctor) follow your main channel every video. I can't imagine how hard this has been on you and your family day-to-day in the practicalities. Well done for sticking it out to this point! I had a similar life plan, then met my wife while we were both in training in our professional roles. She has finished and excelled immediately and has become a managing partner in 3 practices locally. It's tethered us to the location in the medium-long-term which initially bummed me out, but hearing stories from others and yourself with similar "How I Stopped Caring and Learned to Love the Pandemic" stories has really made me appreciate the stability. I'm hoping to travel again soon and I hope the world opens up in front of you and you get to your destination in life (and New Zealand)!

Topic for KZbin segment - Should you go off continuous birth control in your mid - forties? Or, more basically, peri menopause and the pill. My mom died when I was a child and neither her mother nor her sisters were able to recall when menopause started for them. I worry that I’m doing something wrong by staying on continuous birth control (which I mostly use for controlling PMDD symptoms).

I've been doing prn since my sister got breast cancer and things went bad at the practice where I worked, and I like it so much more than I thought! I'm moving closer to my family and to a much nicer area, and I'm really happy about that after a very difficult few years with my health and then COVID. More primary care and much less specialized than I'm used to, but it's also lower pressure right now. Best of luck on your travels for overall positive memories. 💜 Brandi

I am so excited for you and your family. Your channel is so informative, I share it with my daughters who are in their 30's. I would have benefited from the info has a young woman, but alas in the 60's and 70's there was not all that much discussing femine issues. As a nurse who use to work on an island off the coast of California, I learned there are quite a few of doctors who do the same. Travel to different locations for short periods of time. Also, lots of nurses. I wish you the best and will continue to watch your adventures. I, too, raised four children. Loved it, a stay at home mom back then.

are you homeschooling your girls? as an educator myself, i'm wondering how the instability and constant moving is affecting your young children. they're young enough that it may not be affecting them at all; you and your husband, rather than the house, is their stability. Good luck on your nomadic journeys! :)

I grew up moving around. I went to 33 different schools. I also have a Masters degree and teach at a University, so I know with a loving family moving around can still work. I certainly have a well-rounded and eclectic education. As do my six siblings. I’m also well-adjusted. I really think that our American culture places too much attention on “stability”.

Hey, I've never commented on a KZbin video before, but when I saw you touch that slug I actually called out to the screen "be sure to wash your hands!" The slugs and snails here (in Hawaii) can transmit Rat Lungworm. It's one of the new hazards us mainlanders have to learn about when we move to Hawaii. Welcome and Aloha!

I love slugs and snails everywhere but from a distance! The ones I saw in Hawaii are amazing but yes, many transmit parasites. I am fine with pictures and memories of those colorful and giant beings.😍

@@rach3l_lang Not sure how that shows "they're good" but whatever. The genuine lack of care for this kids is troubling. Not saying MDJ or her husband are bad parents, but you can't possibly know how "good" they are unless they tell you themselves. Also it's summer camp. They'll only be there for the summer. It's temporary which is why I am concerned in the first place.

@hollyl5702

@@blueismylove3128 when they're this young, they're probably fine. Teenagers have more difficulty with moving - making friends and having things be consistent. Young kids are typically more flexible as long as their family unit is with them & doing well, because that tends to be the primary source of stability at that age.
