You all want to know how doctor mom Jones invests in me-time...well...this is not it.
$60 is a lot of money to throw towards a Dead Sea mineral swimming lesson.
just trying to pay off my med school loans over here
Support the cause by buying a "SCIENCE IS NOT FKN OFFENSIVE" shirt...
okay, it's a bit less vile than that.
Here: teespring.com/science-is-not-o...
Either way...I won't be spending money to do THIS in the future.
But I still like super soft tee-shirts.
Go team.

As someone who struggles with sensory overload (especially auditory) having access to these tanks is awesome. It is so relaxing to take away all the things that overwhelm my brain for all the waking hours of the day and just be able to relax.

My wife tried it and wasn't a fan, but I'm hooked. I've tried yoga, massage, acupuncture, meditation, but floating is the only thing that seems to work for me as far as relaxing. My place has a discounted rate for those with relevant medical issues, so it's relatively affordable.

I love going to the float tank. As a chronic pain patient it does reduce my pain. Also, it did take me multiple times to get to a place where I could truly get relaxed and shut my brain off. Now I mostly sleep in it and wake up in less pain.

@@bethgramkow7865 For me it does make a big difference. My neck is very flexible, so I have to have support under it or it does make the pain worse. Overall, my muscles are much more relaxed after a session.

Beth Gramkow it really helps. When you float you don’t put any pressure at all on your joints and it increases blood flow to where you have injuries and speeds up healing. I use it for my chronic back pain and always feel better after. Also, my hands and feet tend to get cold easily but I notice my circulation is great after and both hands and feet stay warm for a while after. Wish I could afford doing more than the occasional session..

My first float I panicked too.. being faced with you and your thoughts, no interruptions, can be terrifying and overwhelming. When I stopped trying to control my thoughts and just focused on slow deep breaths I finally relaxed. There's a trick to giving yourself permission to let go and just be. Kudos for trying it :)

I LOVE doing floats. They help my ADHD and (recently cropped up) anxiety. The beauty of these things is that there are things I'm sure you do to relax that would do the opposite for me! The petroleum jelly for your cuts is so that they don't sting, burn, and generally distract you for 20 minutes of your time.

Hi Dr. Jones, I was wondering if you can make a video about miscarriage. I had a miscarriage November 2017 and I had no clue what was going to happen when my OB informed me that i was having a miscarriage. I decided to go the natural way and oh boy was it traumatic. I ended up in the ER due to heavy bleeding, huge blood clots, and horrific cramps my doctor had told me it was just going to be like a really bad period and it was nothing like it. It was so traumatic for me that i decided to hold off on getting pregnant, I want another baby but I just don’t feel ready that night ER was horrible. When I was going through this I couldn’t find much in KZbin about it but maybe if you put a video out there about what to expect it might be helpful to someone :)

We have a small, in ground pool in our backyard in a rural community in AZ. There are no street lights in our neighborhood so it gets really dark at night. It's great for star gazing by the way, but my favorite is to lie on my back and float - and have my hubby turn off the back yard flood light after I am safely in the water. I have never relaxed that well - ever. Just my chubby body on the water, darkness and silence all around. I float so well that I don't need any pool noodles or other devices and have actually dozed off! It is especially breathtaking when there are lots of stars. One night I had a surprise visitor when one of our local bats did a "touch and go" on my head! I think he swooped in for a sip of water and he was as surprised as I was. It is hard to get comfortable anywhere with my multiple orthopedic issues and fibromyalgia. I spend my days in a chair in my craft room, my adjustable bed, or my electric wheelchair. It is painful to stand and walk for longer than 2 or 3 minutes, so total relaxation and no pressure points are heaven on earth.

Please give it another try ! It took me a two floats to get used to the feeling and achieve complete relaxation. I experience chronic pain , and have adhd. So learning to relax was a uphill battle I am glad I gave it a second chance. My first float was much like yours mind running, trying to gauge the time, feeling unsettled. I can now hit deep meditation even fall asleep in the pod. When I emerge I’m pain free and feel relaxed. The results last for hours if I go for the late evening float I have the best sleep ever. It is like combining yoga ,massage, and a long bath in one.

I have to say, floating has been life changing for me and I would go every day if I could. I think the hidden reason people push against floating is the silence of the mind.. it's scary to simply be with yourself fully. Few ever do. I would argue that it is for everyone... It took a few tries to really get into the relaxed state, but that stillness in the mind and body is ecstasy.

When I turned the lights off I could not relax and started to get panicky. I turned the lights back on and still took forever to relax. I also had trouble with figuring out how much time passed. I did finally relax at the end though.

Definitely give it another shot and I would say that even claustrophobic people can try it because you do NOT have to close the lid. You can leave it open and just turn the light off in the room to simulate the darkness but you can breathe more freely. Most pods have lights you can turn on and off as needed. As for neck strain/pain, most places have a floating halo pillow that you can rest your head on that helps with relaxing your neck.

I've done this and I enjoyed it! The second time I did it was definetly better I will say, and I highly suggest trying it at the end of a really busy day! That's when you need it and when it's easiest to relax and just not think about anything. I found myself thinking about alot of things the first time and wanting to move my arms and legs around cuz I was getting bored but the second time was much better because I was super exhausted and I was in an almost dreamlike state. I definetly didnt fall asleep but it felt like that stage between wake and sleep where you are somewhat dreaming but still aware of what's going on. I would give it at least one more shot and then decide what you think! I'll be honest, I've only been 3 times but I would consider going back! And did your place have a pillow for your neck? I found that helped me relax my neck alot easier. Without it I could relax okay the second time but I actually got so relaxed my head went back too far and I ended up getting some salt water in my eyes which hurt!!

I imagine this is like extreme mindfulness. I have a hard time with mindfulness because focusing on only one one thing just makes me MORE anxious. It seems like elective small scale solitary confinement. I don't think I would be able to do this. However after I do laps at the gym I will float to let my muscles calm down and that's ok but it's not in a small dark space alone.

Danielle is your name! I have terrible anxiety, scared of the dark and claustrophobia so the first time I did a float, I took a trusted friend and experience floater with me. He is also a KZbinr, he does meditations, Jason Stephenson. Anyway, I did not close the lid fully on my first float and it's strange how time does warp while floating. I've been a few times now, mainly after work and I am actually getting more used to just being in the moment. When thoughts pop into my head, I acknowledge them and push them aside. I still leave a tiny light on while in the tank but feel safe to close my eyes. I love floating in any pool, it's such a relaxing feeling. I hope you try to float again some day. You may end up liking it, or it might confirm it's not for you. Thanks for sharing.

I take epsom salt baths at home. Not in a tank. Your skin and hair gets really soft and your muscles relax. It's good to do it before bedtime 👍😉 In your own bathroom you can put whatever you want to relax, which makes that a plus for me 😉🙏

We have open Bassins if you book a 2 person session here in germany. My husband hates it, I love it! But put earplugs in! Having the salt crinkle in your ear for days is not so much fun. 😂

Confined spaces freak me out. Although this looks so calming and seems like a great way escape life for a moment, I just know my anxiety would go from zero to sixty in an instant.

Most places will have lighting options if the darkness is too much. And if you need to, you can leave the pod open.

You are already a naturally mindful person, or it seems that way, you probably have a lot of me-time moments throughout your day and you dont even know you're doing it!

I loooooove float tanks. They have ones that are basically a float room. So it isnt so enclosed. I was very nervous the first time around. But the fact i had a float room, made me less anxious. I have always done the float room. I did the egg/tank once. But i didnt care for it.

Floating has become a part of my regular healthcare routine. I do it monthly. I have high anxiety and chronic pain and it is the only thing that helps and makes the world just stop for a little while. I almost always fall asleep. The one I go to has the option to float on a larger cabin if you are worried about being claustrophobic. The water literally makes it so that you have to try to drown. It is completely safe. If I could afford to put a tank in my house I absolutely would.

I wanted to try this since knowing this exists - so my boyfriend got this as a birthday gift. the place we went to didn‘t have closed tanks but rather pools big enough to fit to people. he had a lot of fun - I legit got sea sick! turns out, even if your other senses are „deprived“ your inner ear still notices your movement in the pool (at least mine is that sensitive). The nausea got so bad I had to get out of the pool and the private room it was in to calm down and allow my bf to enjoy it. I really have no desire to repeat that experience, way too close to a panic attack!

Did they have lights that changed the colour inside the egg? Any relaxation music? Maybe you could choose your own relaxation music? There is usually a little thing to put under your head so your neck can relax. The one I tried was wonderful. Could have lights changing colours or on one colour or no light at all. Which was beautiful with music. Thoughts will of course come into your mind then make an conscious effort to feel a relaxed part of your body or count your breathing.
