I do believe particle style (dust release, whatever) is in fact a kekei genkai, but we have to remember, the fact that something is a kekei genkai doesn't mean people have automatic access to it. They still have to develop it, learn how to use it, etc. Ohnoki sayin that he "passed on the secrets of particle release" to him is just that. Ohnoki was capable of using particle release because he possessed the natures associated with it from birth, but it's so complex it needs to be taught almost like a hidden technique. That's my reasoning anyway

It's not a secret technique was my main point, a Kekkei Tota is just a more advanced version of a Kekkei Genkai, because it needs 3 natures instead of 2 (and I knew it needed 3 natures, I just didn't know it had its own name) 2: My reasoning was literally on point. Particle Style is both so rare because it's a Kekkei Tota, and also very complicated to learn so it has to be taught like it's a secret technique. 3: I don't exactly remember why I was explaining that anyway. It's been 2 years since I left that comment. Maybe something was explained in a book since I left the comment.

It's an extraordinarily difficult jutsu, like an S Rank Forbidden Jutsu as it involves combining chakra natures. We've already seen how absurdly difficult it is to apply a nature release to a jutsu, now try adding two more. Mu is probably the most prodigious shinobi in the entire narrative as he is the only character to master all 5 basic changes in nature without ever having some Jesus powers bestowed to him. Onoki and Mu also aren't relatives. They're apprentice and master. Kekkei also has a variety of meanings beyond bloodline. We've also never seen unrelated characters (in canon) demonstrate the same Kekkei Genkai, but we have with the Kekkei Tota. It's more likely to be a highly advanced Hiden Technique that focuses around changes in multiple chakra natures than it is to be genetic. Lack of evidence means no current support. 'Secrets of particle style' is clear cut support of a Hiden Technique grouped as a Kekkei Tota over it being a Kekkei Genkai.

One thing worth noting about Particle Style is that much like in the Ghostbusters, crossing the streams appears to be a spectacularly bad idea, another reason to be thankful that there aren't a buttload of people running around with the Style for. Every time two pieces of Particle Style have collided for whatever reasons, they seem to breach their "containment" and just turn into a sphere of annihilation roughly equivalent to the combined strength of the two colliding jutsus. While jutsus exploding on contact with one another isn't uncommon, most other jutsus don't collide into balls of death that violently dismantle everything they touch.

The cube and the cylinder work a bit differently. The cube traps things inside of it and then disintegrates them but the cylinder functions like a laser beam that destroys anything it comes into contact with.

Don't forget that Jinton took out like 20 of Madara's clones cloaked in Susano'o. Ohnoki was being helped by Tsunade, but it's still a very interesting feat

there are actually three: onoki has used a cube and a cone. and mu has used a cylinder, however they all do the same thing. I also think that onoki's ability to increase and decrease weight and mu's ability to split his body are derivatives of this style.

to make jinton sound way more powerful you could assume that it negates all covalent bonds in a trapped area. covalent bonds are the force that holds atoms together to form molecules. and technique that makes things in a separate cloud of atoms is actually very sick since it will destroy anything tangible (physical in nature (e.g. not chacra and stuff)) that way landing the jinton technique on a person is actually an instakill, because even if assumed that atoms will form bonds again after technique finishes they won't reform into a human (i mean, a stone wall will probably reform in a stone wall, maybe of different shape, but any organic matter will absolutely definitely die)
