The pin marks the spot at the top of the bulge in the weight block. The weight block commonly looks like a incandescent light bulb. The pin marks the center of the top. A symmetrical block is if you split the ball right through pin to create two halves, both sides will be of equal weight. When the portions are not of equal weight, that is called asymmetrical. If the pin is on top of the finger holes (called pin up), you "pull" the weight block with your fingers into a roll. When the pin is below your finger holes (called pin down) you push the weight block with your fingers. I like a pin down and a ball drilled for a balanced feel. For me, this makes for a smooth transition from push away and into the swing. It also helps me manage the ball weight distribution so that I can "stay behind" the ball's weight all during the swing and up to release. My ball track is a thin oil line that covers almost half the ball that runs just to the left of my thumb hole. I'm right handed. I prefer Ebonite balls for their weight block.

Once you find your PAP, would it be good to have the shop engrave a mark or circle on the point (like when they engrave your name). Then you can work on your release and see if the PAP moves in relation to the lane.

Wish I would have seen this video before I bought my 2 balls. I am a lefty and all they did was switch fingers around and kept the pin in the exact same place as they do for righties. These were my first balls I have ever bought and will be my last balls, because of my age. Live and learn.

Joe Bowler: "Our balls are drilled the same way, but my reaction is not as good as yours. Why is that?" JR: "That's because you have something we refer to as 'L.O.F.T.'" 😂

My pro shop guy drilled my ball pin up about 6-7 inches high from the finger wholes. Why would someone do this?

I used to go to a pro shop that when I told the guy what I wanted the ball to do and when, he would reach over, grab a pamphlet and tell me here, read this.

Without seeing you bowl. Probably 3.5-4” from your positive axis point.
