Wish you guys would do a video on your bowling jargon. I usually don’t understand what you are talking about. I don’t mean things like curve, hook, and bucket. I mean “stand up” “open angles” “shim” “push” etc. With some hard work, I learned that “flair” is a catchy word for precessing (with an E), which is a word used in physics for wobble. The earth wobbles on its axis; that’s precessing. It does that because the globe is not perfectly balanced. You might say, its core is asymmetrical. Anyway, your stuff is pretty good, but you can be better by speaking English. Use the bowling jargon, but follow the term with a word of clarification. By the way, you are not alone! Most of the bowling videos are peppered with jargon. So why don’t I just Google the jargon? I have! What you find is bowling jargon from 1930. They carefully explain such things as “the channels on each side of the alley (lane) are sometimes referred to as gutters.” Oh boy! Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe your viewers don’t care what you are talking about, or they assume they know. But you guys spend a lot of your video time just talking. Well, that’s fine. I just wish I understood more of what you are trying to say. Thanks.

I've been playing Disc Golf for over 10 years now. Some of the terminology that translates to functions of how a disc flies reminds me of ball reactions. A stable disc wants to "fade" sooner, than a flippy disc that wants to "flip" or, move towards the particular clockwise/counterclockwise rotation that you throw it. I figure a symmetrical ball would likely want to have a balanced reaction, whereas an asymmetrical has an offbalanced weight to it's core to influence it's rolling pattern. Just things that are going through my mind after years from having not bowled. I miss bowling.

A lot of excellent points here, and things I never thought about before. My PSO had similar comments. I was having trouble late in league and tourneys with my asym's... they used up energy before hitting the pins. I could get to the pocket but started leaving single pins (back row). Picked up a sym ball and instantly solved my problem.

Gues what..... When you drill into the weight block with your thumb hole on a symmetrical ball you make it slightly asymmetrical because you take weight out of one side of the weight block only.

I have one ball in my bag that my team refers to it as my ignorant ball. I only use it when nothing else really wants to work. Flooded lanes it’s the hardest snapping ball in my bag and on a dry shot it likes to skid forever and roll in. It makes no sense to anyone I know but I’m not sure if it is used when I am ignorant or if the ball is ignorant of what the oil is supposed to do. Either way it’s the oldest ball in my bag that I’m afraid to replace and I don’t understand why it does what it does.

I think ball speed is an important component. Seems like generally, higher speed bowlers would benefit more from asymmetrical because if thrown too slow the asymmetrical ball will die on the way to the pocket. Just a theory, I could be wrong. Thoughts?

Yes anyone with under 400 RPMs in their throw is speed dominant and should just throw asyms. Although symmetrical stuff is good for those with reaaaaaalllly slow ball speed. Like old people/little kids etc.

Nice video, thanks guys ! Something i noticed. In the 1st shot of both balls, the Asymm hooked more downlane but also the Symm was thrown 1 board left at the arrows and 2 boards left at the breakpoint. On the 2nd shot, they were thrown pretty much at the same targets, and now the Symm hooked more.
@SirJoelsuf14 жыл бұрын
I like what Mo Pinel says about this, according to him if you have less than 350 RPMs you have no business throwing a symmetrical ball. Same with urethane (although I disagree with Pinel on Urethane). Pretty much anyone with medium or low rotation (which is pretty much 90% of any bowler who isn't two handed) can have nothing but asyms in their bag and be perfectly fine as long as they all vary in terms of how aggressive they are and what kind of surface is on them. A diverse bag of asyms beats a combination of asyms and symmetrical stuff. To me, anyway.
@Jqwerty383 жыл бұрын
One correction about asymmetric cores - they can actually be symmetric when split in half. With bowling ball cores, we are talking about axial symmetry, not planar symmetry. What makes a symmetric core "symmetric" is that it is symmetric around the axis created by the pin.

I think something that should also be extremely highlighted with symmetric balls and any balls in general, is that the symmetry is determined from side to side and not top to bottom. the biggest thing alot of people struggle with when determining if a ball is symmetric, is determining if the core is symmetric from every angle whether it 90, 180, 135 , 142 degrees. for example the Phaze II. its symmetric side to side but not top to bottom. but because side to side is the only thing that matters, it is in fact a symmetric core ball.

Funny because that's my all time favorite ball to date lmao. It's always in my bag. I generally like to play straighter, coming hard up the back of the ball with faster ball speed. Mine is drilled to go long with a nice, sharp breakpoint. Ball is very versatile you can drill it if you like to open up your angles alot too.

I tried to adjust my grip to flatten out the ball, but with minimal luck and NO consistency. I then found the Pyramid Pathogen Blue Dot which is a plastic ball with an asymmetric core. This ball skids down the lane from the cover, but still flips like a resin due to the core. It turned into the best of both worlds. Just curious, why don't any of the pros use plastic balls with weight blocks (like my ball or the Black Widow Spare) on dry conditions as an alternate to using Urethane?

I just bought my first symmetrical ball (Hammer Infamous) and I'm getting it driller tomorrow. So........ Are we saying the difference in shape comes AFTER the break point? I was under the impression that the difference was before, i.e. more skid and snap with an asym and a more progressive arc with a sym BEFORE the break. But watching this I feel I got that wrong. And then comes the question if I should get this drilled pin high or pin low. The Hammer / Brunswick site says pin low will give maximum arc (which I took to be before the break point) and hook (which I took to be after break point), while pin high will give greater length before the break. Man...... My coach said I needed a symmetrical in my arsenal, and he'll also be drilling this for me, so I'm sure he knows what's up, but I like to understand myself what's going on and I'm not sure I'm getting it!

Symmetrical balls are symmetrical only if you split it through the pin. If you don't, then a symmetrical ball will yield asymmetrical sides. A true symmetrical ball is when the weight block is shaped and uniformly balanced like a ball, thus becoming a ball within a bowling ball. In an asymmetrical roll, through centrifugal force, the heavier imbalanced side creates a wobble that tugs the ball in that direction. A ball drilled to take advantage of the offset creates a ball that has less deflection.

@AverageLeagueHack4 жыл бұрын
The fast 8 is when you hit slightly high the head hits the 2 on the inside sending it to the wall and around the 4/7 leaving one or the other is a slight variation on this hit when you trip them both late those are the dirty beautiful trip 4's we RH's love. The 8 pin can be the ball driving hard and taking the 5 straight back (the 8 will often get a wiggle making it more infuriating) or the head will get to the 5 (after bouncing off the 2) before the ball knocking it the wrong way both of those are bad luck and/or a slightly imperfect rack.

i really love your videos.... But. (Isn't there always a but!) Who is your audience? For example, at 10 min, Brad asking Kyle what ball he would use to start, and Kyle saying he would use the assym and then Brad asking at what point he would use the sym? All interesting, but useless to me. I bet a a pro could relate to what another pro uses. I want your advice on what ball I should use as a beginner or an intermediate bowler. I suspect most of your viewers fall into one of those categories. I suggest a video where you suggest different balls based on how fast a viewer throws a ball, age, their average, how much hook they are getting, maybe lane conditions, etc. That would be SUPER useful! For example, I came upon this vid bc I am 60 years old, retired and started bowling 4 years ago, 150+ average but heading down because I started to work out to get in shape and now both my balls are hooking like crazy hard. Even my plastic ball hooks 9" now. I need a new ball and my pro shop does not have a pro - they have a guy with a 140 average and has 2 years pro shop experience. And I live 1.5 hours from the next closest lanes...

Are there other factors involved like coverstock, RG, differential? I'm considering the Storm IQ Tour Nano Pearl which has a low differential. Would this be compatible with house shots or modified sport patterns like Big Ben, Asian American, or Stone Street? My ball speed is in the low teens and I have an average rev rate, and I average between 185-190. I usually shoot anywhere from 13 to 17 boards.
@Brian_B3004 жыл бұрын
I have about 30 or so games on my nano Pearl. Only used it on house shots and burned up practice lanes so far. Honestly not sure what to do with it at this point. Have all 3 current iq balls and nano is least favorite. Out of box it reads the mid lane super strong and early, after some games it mellowed out but now giving me crazy over/under reactions. All 3 rocks have exact same layouts on them, Intent being let the cover differences do the work. Probably going to shine it up and see if that solves any problems. Your lower ball speed might give you issues with the nano depending on the pattern/conditions
@MrNYCman5304 жыл бұрын
@@Brian_B300 How does the Nano Pearl compare to the Storm Code X which I use currently? Is it cleaner on the backends than the Nano Pearl?
