In this video we're discussing the Akatsuki's rings. More specifically we're going to be explaining what their purpose was, some theories on what else they could have been used for, along with each ring individually.
To discuss all of that we're also going to be talking about the demonic statue of the outer path, along with sealing of tailed beasts.
The rings are still somewhat of a mystery to this day, so hopefully, this video clears up any confusion and provides a better understanding!

I always assued that at least one purpose of the Akatsuki rings is to open the seal to any Akatsuki hideout, that means they are keys. I always thought so, because of Deidara making the typical chakra gathering gesture, showing the ring. And I mean, it would make sense: Team Kakashi/Guy need to fight these clones in order to get into the hideout. Of course, there has to be way for the akatsuki members to get inside without all that trouble! (I think with this assumption everything around these rings make sense: Later they don't use sealed hideouts for sealing away the tailed beasts anymore. They kind of feel uneasy about Orochimaru having his one, meaning he could mess with sealing ceremony. But that's relatively unlikely and since this is the only purpose, he can not do much more harm anyway.) But I like your idea that these could also be trackers. Maybe they work only over ground. That way Nagato can not sense Orochimaru's. Or orochimaru has a special seal around each of his hideouts. Or Akatsuki simply doesn't care about Orochimaru. (With these two functions of the rings, it makes even more sense why Akatsuki doesn't really care so much about Orochimaru's ring: Yeah, he could simply enter they hideout, since it is a key, but they would he him comming a mile ago, since it is also a tracker!)

They work you down to your last breath, their requirements are horrid, and if you dont release weekly you pretty much get strikes until they take you off the weekly shonen and move on to new things. So no, its not very far from the truth. That is why Kubo Tite the creator of Bleach was getting sick constantly and putting his manga on hold a lot. He suffered with shonen jump and in the end they fucked him over and moved on like he never existed.

In ancient japan. The pinky finger is very important, without it, you cant wield a sword effectively. If you'll notice both pinky ring bearers become very important to the story, "irreplaceable" if you will. Orochimaru is powerful, and nigh on immortal, and Zetsu is used in several different scenarios to bolster madara and obitos power.

That's the thing, after failing to hunt him down once i guess Nagato made it clear that Orochimaru could be hunted down at some later date from what we've seen they stood out of eachothers way until Orochimaru's demise. Deidara did say how he was saving that one technique he perfected to kill the traiterous member, i like to think that Nagato held some form of respect towards Orochimaru even though he had abandoned and possibly stolen intel from the organisation, and simply hoped for him to return someday. We saw Nagato breaking the news of Orochimaru's death and was possibly sad about it too.

I think the purpose of those rings are to project themselves as a hologram into the ten-tails fingers for them to gather/assemble and have discussions while they are separated to different villages for their mission to hunt all the jinchurikiis. It's a like a groupchat, groupvideo, social media live, facetime, etc.

2Spooky I think what happened with the sealing is that the statue only needed the Akatsuki members chakra in the beginning. After gaining the chakra from the initial tailed beasts it was able to act on its own to gain the chakra it needed for later sealings. It's a bit like a fire you need to give an initial spark to light and feed fuel to keep it going but once it is big enough it will burn everything that it is able to reach.

By the time of the 4th Great Ninja War, it should be clear that Kishimoto just sais "screw it!!" And just forgot about all the stuff that had been previously set. There are still other questions about the Akatsuki though. 1)Why did they have to polish their nails? 2)You'd think that for an organization relying on subterfuge, wearing a rather eye-catching cloak would be quite a disadvantage so what's with it? 3)As a fully fleshed organization, every member had a specific job aside from trying to capture Jinchuriki. We know they ran as a sort of mercenary organization so what were the jobs of each person? We know Kakuzu was in charge of finances and Zetsu was Intel.

Nah, the author just forgot about the rings. Forgeting was something Kishimoto used to do when something wasn't practical anymore. He would have to create another whole plot of Obito searching for the rings and searching for new members to use the rings and then making them seal beasts for days. He preferred to forget about it.

The thing Itachi's genjutsu only works when you look at his eyes that's why they never looked him in the eye but then they saw Itachi's ring which caught them to the Genjutsu so I assume that the ring became an extension of his Genjutsu to inflict someone.

I think i know why the statue would be destroyed if the nine tails was first. Because when the statue obsorbs the other tailed beasts which r supposed to he weaker than the nine tails it gains power and adds it to its one power to obsorb the next one. 9 tails was significant weak tbh...... just simply based on the fact that his chakra was split by minato........, and ten tails only had the chakra from 8th tails tail and the two brothers with the 9............. so Deff wasn’t full strength

To anyone curious about the astral projection, that's a auxiliary ninjutsu called the Magic Lantern Body Technique. Akatsuki members send out thought waves mixed with their chakra. Nagato acts as a transceiver to these thought waves and broadcasts them to a certain location. In this case, it's that cave they go to for the rituals.

I remember actually early into the Shippuden manga with this first theory it really did seem that was the direction for sure that each ring holds a specific seal for a specific tailed beast and there seemed to be more of an organized system among the akatsuki of who would be paired with who as well as their designated jinchuriki target along with when and where to strike. Back then Akatsuki had like military-style tactical oversight of everything that was about to go down, intel from zetsu And there definitely was mention of a specific order the beasts needed to be sealed way back when Gaara was taken and then there was all the shit with Chiyo and Sasori. Really looked like the were going somewhere with this idea that felt like it would be crucial to the plot later and made the beasts seem more than formidable.....then the whole idea got chucked in the bin and eventually all it takes is a little glimpse at a rinnesharingan to tame them.

Neat. I always thought they were some kinda chakra focusing devices to help them power up their attacks or concentrate them. No evidence, but it just seemed like a fun idea that would also explain how the akasuki could all be so much more powerful than normal shinobi and able to compete with jinchuriki

Nahhh..the akatsuki members each don't receive any external powers. Each one of them are really crazy strong. Itachi awakens mangekyou and slaughter all his clan members. Kakuzu fought hashirama senju. Kisame killed fuguki and has lots of chakra. And lastly, akatsuki recruits it's members when they see any potential that ninja could be rogue and have nice talents. Just like when they recruit orochimaru, deidara, kisame and so on. :)

Maybe the actual dealing can only be performed with Rinnegan within an Uchiha, as Sasuke, Madara and Obito were all able to do it, but, without those specifications, they needed the Rings to do the job. This would also help Toni keep up appearances and be able to use Pain as a headfigure with the Rinnegan.

@NYCC 2017 My girl bought Konan’s ring as she is her favorite Akatsuki. She wanted me to buy Pains (Yahiko) ring as Konan loved him and she loves me +we have the same birthday. I remember it being mentioned that Zetsu has recorded every battle since his creation, so it's more likely that he was the one who told Pain/Nagato. I do think your theory about the rings being used as communication devices was pretty accurate I mean whenever the members met up or were sealing a beast they always used the same signs. As for the rings, I think they were important to Nagato's part of the plan, and Tobi was the one commanding the Akatsuki from the shadows, so he didn't need the ring when it came down to it. finally, I'll say one thing for pronunciation purposes you pronounce AO=ow (the sound you make when you hurt yourself)

It's mentioned in the manga and anime that the number of tails that a tailed beast has directly correlates with the amount of chakra that it possesses, with the ones with more tails having more chakra. Perhaps the nine-tails had to be sealed last because the statue wouldn't be able to contain its power for long and it would need to quickly be revived as the ten-tails once the nine-tails had been sealed within?
