What is considered correct validation? I sent a debt validation a letter and they sent me a copy of my light bill they are trying to collect on. Is that considered “validation”?

A true debt validation is when they provide you detail information about that particular “alleged” account - not just pre-printed statements - that’s not validating an account! You have the right to force the debt collector to prove you owe the money. Debt validation is your federal right granted under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). To request debt validation, you must send a written request to the debt collector within 30 days of being contacted by the collection agency.

Submit that information to both cfpb complaint and credit bureaus where it’s reporting explaining that you’ve tried resolve this with the company but they failed to provide you enough or sufficient proof to validate the accuracy of this debt. This debt is in violation of your consumer rights and it’s causing this negative account to illegally re-aged or appear new in your credit. Good luck
