my personal translation for 14:15 Enemies will not be eliminated by themselves, neither the reactionaries in China, nor the invasion force of imperialism America. They will not exit the stage of history automaticly -- Mao Zedong 1949.01 (during the liberation war aka china civil war , against kmt and their american allies) I'm not bad mouthing anyone but the girl is wrong about this slogan

The translation of Mao slogan by the girl was not totally accurate. It should be " The enemies won't disappear by their own, no matter they are the counter revolutionists in China, or the invasive power in China (supported) by the US imperialism. " it is not say US directly.

It allowed me the viewer to experience and to think for myself instead of trying to sell me on a preconceived idea. I have experience this type of thing myself leaving Chengdu to visit some of my exchange students that live in Northern China. I love the openness and the honesty. With my personal journey I came as a foreigner and by the time I left the Mothers of my girls in the north said you are no longer a foreigner you are and always be family. This is why I like this video I felt a part of the journey.

The Chinese "Inch"(寸 cùn)& "Feet " (尺 chǐ)were simply translated with the same names but actually different measuring systems, since Qin Shi Huang's first unification of China after Warring States Period, writing systems uniformed, weights and measures standardized, etc. But a lot of changes throughout time, currently 1 "cun" = 3.333 cm in Mainland China, 1 "sun" = 3.03 cm in Japan, while 1 inch = 2.54 cm. Funny how US use British Imperial System while UK use Metric one.

The way they translate English names to Chinese is to find Chinese words sound close to each syllable of the English names. Sometimes they cut short. For example, the word American, they only use the second syllable so they call 美 county. England: 英, first syllable. California: 加 also first syllable. So, as for American, 美 coincidentally means beautiful. But, that doesn't mean they call that because they think our country is beautiful.
@pandabear1534 жыл бұрын

@Jay-hf9jw4 жыл бұрын
@@JaYoeNation Matt, it is really not a coincidence. Here is the reason I think why most of the Western countries have a nice Chinese character. Firstly, it is respectful to name another country with good or at least decent character. If you have a pronunciation that can be translated to 美, people would not use 煤 or 霉。Secondly, these countries were already very developed 160 years ago when China was forced to open its door to the world. Chinese looked up to them so much and wished China would learn from them and become as strong as them some day like Japan. Some famous and radical Chinese figures even wanted to abandon Chinese characters and switch completely to alphabet. They blamed everything on Chinese traditional culture and believed they were the reason why China was left behind and bullied by other nations. Hope this helps
