Fantastic video once again Elyssa, especially telling us about the Brunelleschi pass wish we knew about it when we were in Florence in July, never mind we will take your advice once again and get the pass when we are back in Florence next year. Great advice once again thank you both so much.

I loved the view from the Campanile, not so much the shin splints that I gave myself on that climb. There was a small pharmacy around the corner and when I bought bags of Epsom salts for soaking, the pharmacist made first an exaggerated sympathetic face and then with a wry grin said, “Campanile?” 😄

Glad you got to get some help for those sore legs! I am quite sure I know the pharmacy you mean. And I bet they get people with sore legs and feet from that climb on a daily basis!

Florence is a beautiful city, just awesome. We visited the Bell Tower this afternoon and there are a few levels on the way up to park yourself and rest. But going to the TOP of the bell tower provides gorgeous views of the city; not quite the height of the cathedral but not really that far off ! Before you take on the stairs anywhere in the bell tower, make sure you're ok to physically do it as there are a ton of steps and going up can be a challenge for some. Regardless, the bell tower is just beautiful like the entire Duomo complex.

I'm glad you got to enjoy the climb! You are right, one need to make sure they are physically able to handle this climb before heading up. The least strenuous climb is the tower of Arnolfo.

Your videos have been great for our first trip to Italy. We got the Brunelleschi pass (@ the 6:33 in the video) and when we accessed the Santa Reparata under the Duomo we were able to access the Duomo directly when we came upstairs from the Reparata. We had full access to wonder around the Duomo as if we stood in the free line for the Duomo, so that was a bit of a skip the line as we thought after the Reparata we would have to exit and wait in the Duomo line.

Thanks so much for letting me know. I'm so glad you find them helpful. That's great that you were able to access Santa Reparata outside of the line of the Duomo. It is indeed a huge benefit!

Love your informative videos. Really happy to find out about the Arnolfo Tower, because we really want the view OF the Duomo, not FROM it. We are trying to purchase tickets to climb the Arnolfo Tower in October 2024, but can't get any past 26th September. Is that because tickets aren't for sale until closer to the time, or is it closed in October?
@Romewise
@Romewise 5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! Yes, that's why I love climbing the Arnolfo tower. Also it's the easiest to climb (fewest steps) and it's also the easiest to book. I think you may be too early to book now for October so I suggest you keep checking back. They only close the tower when it rains.

Hi Elyssa! A friend just returned from Italy. He spent time in Naples and Amalfi Coast. He did take one day to visit the American WWII Cemetery and brought back a few photos. I had no idea there was such a thing in Rome. Have you produced a video of this cemetery yet? If not, would you consider doing so? Thank you!!
@Romewise
@Romewise Жыл бұрын
Yes, that cemetery is very special and worth the short trip from Rome. Please check out this video, where you can see more about cemeteries in and near Rome. I briefly cover the Sicilian-American cemetery in Anzio at 06:34: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGXTeZqYi9d6kKs Please note I filmed this in the middle of the pandemic, so I had to wear a mask, but otherwise, I hope you enjoy the scenery!

Hi, Elyssa. Thanks so much for your videos. Is there a way to only visit the duomo only and not of the other sites in the Brunelleschi pass?
@Romewise
@Romewise 9 ай бұрын
To my knowledge, the only way to climb the dome of Florence's duomo is with the Brunelleschi pass. It just happens that included in this ticket are the other sites of the complex. But basically the base pass to climb the dome is this one.

Hi Elyssa, do you know with the Brunelleschi pass, if we were to book the 18:30-19:45 time to climb the Duomo dome, can we start the climb at 19:00? or if the 18:30 time is the start time and 19:45 is the finish time? We want to book the latest time to climb in June as it will be not as hot and still with daylight, but we want to know if we have the flexibility to go there between 18:30 to 19:45 or if we have to be there at 18:30. Good if you know the answer, thanks.
@Romewise
@Romewise 10 ай бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching. Your timed entrance to the Bell Tower is for 18:30. You will be taken up by a staff member of the cathedral. So you can't wander in any time between 18:30 and 19:45, although once at the top, I believe you can stay longer if you like. They recommend this time frame as a total for visiting the dome but your entry time is 18:30 (with maybe a few minutes' leeway but not more than 5). Yes, you can visit the rest of the sites on the pass within ANY THREE days around your reserved date, not just after it.

so if my scheduled climb up the dome is already near and I am still stuck in the long line, there's no way but to wait in line with other people that has no pass?
@Romewise
@Romewise 2 ай бұрын
There are two lines at the Duomo: One is to enter the cathedral only (the church on ground floor level), and that line is just for security, as it's free to enter the church. The second line is dedicated to those who have tickets to climb the dome. You should make sure you get into that line. They make sure that people's whose appointed time is closest get through the turnstile in time for their climb.

Hi Elyssa. I'm a little confused about how I book the time for the Bell Tower. Is the mandatory entry time for the Dome? Then how do I book the Tower? Thanks for your help:)
@Romewise
@Romewise 9 ай бұрын
Yes I know it's a little confusing. When you purchase the Brunelleschi Pass, you have to pick a time to climb the dome. Then, the other sites, including the Bell Tower, are all visitable within a 3 day period around your dome visit. With this visit, you actually can't book the tower, only the dome. You just show up to the tower and go in. Lines are usually not very long to climb the bell tower.

Can you confirm that if we go to the website for Palazzo Vecchio and Arnolfo Tower tickets and we purchase the one called “Museo di Palazzo Vecchio” we can still climb the Arnolfo Tower in addition to visiting the Palazzo? Or do we need to purchase the tickets separately. My main goal is to climb the tower but wouldn’t mind visiting the palazzo too. I just don’t want to not have the right ticket for the tower climb.
@Romewise
@Romewise 6 ай бұрын
They are two separate tickets. It's a little confusing because the website shows "Palazzo Vecchio" but when you go to book, there is a little dropdown menu where you can pick EITHER the museum OR the tower. Here is the official site: ticketsmuseums.comune.fi.it/1_museo-di-palazzo-vecchio/ I recommend visiting both!!

QUESTION: I purchased the Brunelleschi Pass with my timed Duomo timed entrance for Monday 08 April. Knowing that this pass is good for 3 days, does this 3 day period BEGIN on 08 April when I climb the Duomo? Or can I use this pass BEFORE my timed entrance, such as to go up the Campanille (and other sights included in this pass) on 06 or 07 April?
@Romewise
@Romewise 11 ай бұрын
You may use your Brunelleschi pass within 3 consecutive days of the date of your Duomo entrance. So you can visit the other sites on the 6th or 7th of April if you like. The important thing is to be on time for your Duomo visit. But the 3-day pass is AROUND that date.
@HengTang
@HengTang 10 ай бұрын
We asked the same question by sending an email via the official ticket site, this is their reply "dome climbing must be placed in the first validity day of your pass, while you can access to all the other monuments within the three validity days anytime, without reservation”, so my understanding is that you can't visit the other sites on 6 or 7 April, only on 8, 9 and 10 April.
@Romewise
@Romewise 10 ай бұрын
You may visit all the sites on the pass as long as it's WITHIN 3 days of your timed reservation to the duomo. It does not have to be AFTER, it can also be BEFOREHAND.@@HengTang

Do we have to pay for the Palazzo Vecchio if we only want to climb the Arnolfo Tower? Do we need to pre-book a time?
@Romewise
@Romewise 10 ай бұрын
You can pay for just the tower if you prefer. There is also an integrated ticket which makes it convenient to buy the tower and museum (palazzo) together. I highly recommend visiting the palazzo, too, as it's extraordinary and also very little crowded. But if you want, you can just do one or the other. In high season, yes, you might need to book in advance as it can sell out. Space is limited. Here is the official website (in Italian only): cultura.comune.fi.it/pagina/musei-civici-fiorentini-museo-di-palazzo-vecchio/orari-e-biglietti

I looked at that website but all I saw was the museum ticket. Is the Arnoldo tower included in the cost of the museum ticket?
@Romewise
@Romewise 10 ай бұрын
Ugh their site is clunky. So it takes you there to book tickets: ticketsmuseums.comune.fi.it Click English. Then, you choose the museum. Once the page loads, look on the right hand side. Look under "Type of ticket". There is a dropdown menu. From there you can pick the tower. I hope that helps! @@julieharper6690

@@Romewise thank you very much. I was able to find it but when I plugged in my date for May, it tells me there are no openings for that date. Is it similar to the Vatican or colosseum where one can only book a certain # of days ahead?

That I don't know but it's very possible. In Italy there is not the same mentality we Anglo-saxons have of booking far in advance... @@julieharper6690
