Explored Heswall and slept in the riverside fields

July 2022. I spent the day exploring Heswall, then bivvied on Heswall Field overlooking the River Dee. Local history includes St. Peter's Church, Heswall Dales, Heswall Beach and Boat Yard, and some local ghost stories.

Love the Irish connection as I was born there and came here during the troubles. During lockdown I watched Irish myths and discovered so much about Ireland. I then wondered about the Wirral as had read some history books over the years. You have given me so much information about the history of the area and cead mile thanks. Loved watching your videos Will, the Wirral is beautiful as well as so full of history. There are 5 Viking grave markers dating back to 930 AD displayed in Neston Parish church along with a tombstone of a knight pre 1300. Neston parish church was rebuilt in 1874 and uncovered in the foundations with the 5th Viking grave marker being used as a lintel in the bell tower. Nearby in St Bridget’s in West Kirby they have on display a hog back stone one of two located on the Wirral. The other I understand is in West Kirby museum who are open every Saturday 10am till1pm. Am resting up after ham string tear but hoping to visit the museum when I able to- never knew it was there. Carry on with your brilliant posts on utube.

Excellent, Bill. Grabbed the nature of the area perfectly, a mini documentary on what, in my opinion, is the Peninsula's most beautiful area. You covered some ground in this one, your legs must have been "Daffy Ducked" by the time you got home, like? The midges are a real problem on the Dee estuary and surrounding areas, but they become less of a problem later in the year, the little bastards. Folklore also tells of a strange purple figure that haunts the dales after dark, and thats the one you need to worry about All in all a great vid Bill, well filmed and full of accurate local knowledge. Nice one 👍🏻

Cheers Barry lad, it took some planning. The Wirral Way is where me wild camping adventures began, was nice go back and try to capture the place and do it justice. The Wirral Way and Circular Trail are full of camping spots, as we both know. Will be more like this Heswall vid coming in the near future hopefully 👍

Really enjoyed your video. I am thinking of going to Heswall Fields with my group and was looking for a video to show what it is like. We could do with some benches to sit on but there are some along the Wirral Way. Loved the views.

@@WirralWill its only a trickle apart from after heavy rain. It goes underground then reappears running next to banks road before flowing onto the beach/estuary.
