Great video Mike ! I wasn’t aware that you could choose the unlimited roam package, I thought the mini was locked to the 50gb package. That and doubts over the wifi range was stopping me buying it. Both answered in this video so thank you. I work full time out of my van and finding 4g too inconsistent. Just watched the mounting video too as those options will suit me perfectly.

Thanks for the video! I had bought Starlink new gen to utilise when needed temporary internet and when away in the van. Had noticed though that you cant pause the £75.00pm Residential service, only cancel. Gets expensive then when stung the additional £75.00 congestion charge each time you wish to use the device! Have since returned the new gen & ordered the mini - Just hope the 50GB is enough to facilitate the bit of streaming and kids gaming whilst away or could become expensive....

Thanks for the video. I bought a USBc cable to power the starlink mini but when plugged into the van it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

Hi, Are you sure the USB-C socket you are plugging it into is capable of 20v output?

I really wish they had a trade in program. I’d happily send back my Gen 2 and pay £100 to get a Starlink mini
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
Given Gen2 are now pretty cheap new I can’t see it being something Starlink would do. But there is a second hand market for them so you might get some money back selling it on.

How well did the Mini work when looking through your camper's skylight?
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
We have only used it through the skylight when in motion and as per the test in the video it seems to work well especially when used for buffered content that covers up for those short periods when a connection isn’t possible. When stationary we always put it outside.

You need to update the subscription descriptions section - terms have changed (quite significantly) for new customers already and for existing customers will change 10 October.
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
No change to the Roam 50GB tariff. Price change, global roaming and in motion use added to Roam Unlimited. Starlink.com best place for latest info. Other than the price change nothing significantly different to video.

thanks for the info, but your video quality doesn't need 60 FPS. you can easily use standard 30 FPS and reduce load on both you laptop and our bandwidth

Good day.Can you pliz guide me l want to make my first purchase for starlink kit but am kind like confused on which one to go for, standard or mini . Can you pliz help me out on the difference between the 2 kits , when it comes to devices that l can connect, whether l can connect them to third party routers, can l mount mini kit on rooftop and use it indoors, how are they obstructed by walls if l have different rooms and how are they affected by weather. Thank you in advance for your response.
@ClarkyMalarky4 ай бұрын
Standard will have higher speeds, has to be outside. You can use third party router if you cut cord and attach a standard terminal plug ( a million KZbin videos show you how, equipment is like 20$ on amazon to do that) mini is generally for on the road. But if you just need basic speeds mini would suffice. ( also has to be outside) some can get through a window if lucky. 🍀 30-50mbps would suffice for streaming and video calls etc.
@ClarkyMalarky4 ай бұрын
Also standard is unlimited data, mini is 50$ for 50 gigs. A dollar for every gig after that ( totally depends where you are in the world though)
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
Simple answer if you are only looking to use it one location go with the standard dish as the external router gives you more options for in a building and the dish is higher performance. The Mini is definitely more suited to mobile use.
@davidbateman73112 ай бұрын
Not sure how I check that?
@ExploreVanUK2 ай бұрын
It should be in the spec of the socket you are plugging it into. But if it is not working my strong suspicion would be that the socket is not capable of 20v.

Australia has two roaming plans, a 50g and an unlimited one. Price is $80 Australian the 50g and $195 for unlimited. We can pause plans but can only upgrade from 50g to unlimited. You can't swap back and fourth. The only way to go back to the 50g plan is to cancel and start a new plan. My only complaint is wish the 50g was say a 100 or 250g. Then it would definitely be more tempting to use when going camping, ect, with kids. Ie streaming their movies
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
It’s the same 2 plans here in the UK but you can switch between the two (though you can only downgrade for the next month not the one you are in) Your cost for 50GB is slightly cheaper than ours but the Unlimited is a bit more expensive with the current exchange rate. I agree the 50GB is low, and only really usable for essentials. But I guess that’s to encourage you to the unlimited plan.

Good content, as always. Congrats! Do you know if it's possible to change the service address (including the country) in the SL account in order to get cheaper monthly prices from other EU countries ? My case: I just got the Mini dish in Romania (my native and shipping country). When ordered 1 week ago, I chose for the 50gb Mini Roam plan wich cost 40 € pe month, like in all the EU countries. Anyway, I paused it until the dish arrived, so didn't use it at all. I am still in the 30 days return period. I would have chosen the unlimited Mobile Regional , but it cost 100 € in Romania (same in other 3-4 poor countries). Meanwhile, I found that the unlimited roam cost only 60€ in the majority of EU countries (especially wealthy ones). Now, I would change the service address to Italy, where the unlimited cost 60€, but I am not sure if that would block my access or not. What do you think? Thanks!
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
Yeah the variance between countries / charging is annoying and I wish Starlink would standardise it given they are selling a global product. I suspect the charge is based on your "billing" address when you first set up the account and not sure changing the service address would make a difference. You may be able to transfer ownership of the hardware to another account (set up in another country) but I believe this can't be done within 120 days of purchase or 90 days of activation which ever is shortest)
@rubymouse69044 ай бұрын
Last I checked you could go roaming for 2 months which is pointless for people travelling EU in a van.
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
As I understand it you can roam for 2 months without updating your service address or returning to the country of your service address. If you are away for longer you need to update the service address to the country you are in.

Not buying until the subscription price is comparable to France and Spain.
@ExploreVanUK4 ай бұрын
Yeah Geographic prices differences are annoying especially on a global product! (in the US it is $165 for unlimited Roam which is around £126 a month which makes the UK price seem good!) so we need to be careful they don't standardise the price to that. I imagine it all comes down to the Market economy and what people will pay. For example in my expereince Mainland Europe has far better 4G and 5G performance and coverage than the Uk therefore if the Starlink price was higher there people wouldn't bother as they can manage with 4G/5G. There is more demand in the UK due to how poor 4G and 5G can be, therefore the cost can be higher. Similarly in the US the amount of land area that doesn't have a mobile signal at all is far bigger than Europe and the UK so the cost can be higher as people will pay it. Starlink have actually just done a shake up of pricing in the past couple of days meaning the Unlimited Roam subscription has gone up - but now includes global coverage (rather than just in your region), priority data and use on the move (only previously included on the 50GB tariff). Which is a good deal if you need it. But if you don't its a bit annoying. The 50GB tariff has stayed the same price.
