Back at the store David's son said "Daddy, don't let the monsters get me." and he promised him he wouldn't. That's why he did what he did. It was love in the face of utter hopelessness.

@@jazz730 Nothing. The story ended with the David and friends hiding in a motel room, almost out of gas in their vehicle, and imagining they heard on the radio about a safe town with no mist states away from them. There was no conclusion.

They just didn't up and decide to commit suicide, they drove for however long until the gas ran out in the car. Knowing what was out there they couldn't just get out and continue on foot. As far as they knew they had 2 choices, stay in the car and just wait and unknown amount of time and starve to death slowly, or go out on their own terms. They discussed not having enough bullets and he basically said he would figure it out regarding ending his life, which wound up being to let the monsters eat him. His screaming in the car is him letting it all out of what he was forced to do to keep his promise to his son that he wouldn't let the monsters hurt him. It's a rough ending for sure, and then the salt in the wound of the mist clearing and the lady you thought was a fool for going out into the mist is safe and sound with her kids along with the people in the grocery store that you left, that's tough. I've watched other reactors who are moms react to this movie and I'm beginning to think moms just can't get with the ending, it hits too close to home, and that's fair.

as a non mom...the ending pisses me off too....as humans we have a fight or flight instinct..not an instict to give up and especially not when you have kids to look out for. 🤷🏼‍♀ I think as humans its incredibly hard for us to just give up and it doesn't make sense to us. We obv cant empathize with these characters because none of us have ever been faced with monsters/creatures...so idk I get both sides but mostly dont understand the need to give up that quick.

There are 9 actors on here who also were in The Walking Dead. Frank Darabont loved working with actors he used before, so he worked with them on this and then on TWD.

I find so many of the reactions to this film baffling. Based on everything our hero knows about the situation they are in, death is preferable to being torn apart and eaten by these monsters. The other three adults all clearly agree to be killed instead of face the monsters. He previously promised his son he would not let the monsters get him. He makes the ultimate sacrifice to allow the monsters to get him instead of the rest of the people in the car. He could not have known how close help was. His IQ didn’t drop. He did what seemed to be the best possible thing in an impossible situation. Him being wrong in the end is what makes this movie so tragic.

While two minutes of screen time for us. There is no real certainty of how long they had been slow rolling through the mist. Keep in mind he promised his son that he wouldn't let the monsters get him. A father keeping his word isn't always easy. Protecting his children even less so easy.

I hope these "as we go" helps 1. In context it is similar to what King did with The Stand except in this case it's monsters and not a virus. 2. Jeffery DeMunn is known as a favorite of director Frank Darabont, who has cast him in all four of his films: "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), "The Green Mile" (1999), and "The Mist" (2007). All King adaptations. He was also in what King himself says is the best adaptation of his work. "Storm of the Century". 3. William Sadler also was in Shawshank and The Green Mile. 4. Frances Sternhagen was in "Misery" by King. 5. Marcia Gay Harden kills it. 6.The big guy that goes out with the rope around his waist "brass balls" was going to be King doing that role himself, but Darabont shot him down. 7. This is not how the book ends. Darabont wanted this ending. King later said that as horrific that it is he likes it better. What makes this ending more devastating is he has to live with it the rest of his life 🥵 8. The picture of the cowboy IS an Easter egg from King's "Dark Tower series 9. Stephen King. You're welcome.

I absolutely love this movie! I think it is an underrated masterpiece! There is so much more going on in this movie than just alien monsters vs humans. That grocery store becomes a microcosm of humanity when times get bad. The tribes get small, and suddenly everyone is trying to shank you and take your meat. And assholes like Mrs. Carmody are trying to figure ways to brainwash people and bend them to her will. I was so glad when Ollie shot her in the brain and fucking ended her. Also, Ollie was by far the best character in the whole movie, and I think we were all upset when he died! :P BTW India, this movie was directed by the legendary Frank Darabont, who made The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and the first season of The Walking Dead. That's why you see so many familiar people from those productions. But yeah, I think this movie is awesome! The ending is absolutely horrific and painful, but goddamn if it doesn't stick with you! I think this is kind of a perfect Halloween movie, it's so bleak and frightening! :D Great reaction India! Look forward to more!

At the beginning he was drawing the Outlaw Josey Wales. Clint Eastwood played him in the movie of the same name. Andrea from the Walking Dead is also in this along with Carol and Dale. Not sure I would have noticed how many Walking Dead actors were in this movie if you hadn't mentioned it. So those poor people first had to deal with this Mist and then had to deal with the Walkers. They can't catch a break, can they?

Their only options being to dp what they did or wait until they are ultimately grousomely killed by the monsters, which the dad had specifically promised his son he wouldn't let happen. The fact that the military arrived is irrelevant to their decision in thay moment. They had no way of knowing help was 2 minutes away. Your view is very original. I never really thought of it like how you say. Everyone usually says oh poor Thomas Jane. The extra ending should be him getting arrested for murder. Make it even more brutal. It is dubious that the help comes so quick and soon after the giant thing walked past and they have it under control now. They went from no control over the mist to complete control in minutes. The point of the movie is about never lose faith that things will work out. That's why the Woman at the start survives but the others don't. She is the only one who thinks positive that she will get her kids and sticks to that. The others all give up hope and surrender to fear at various points. Including the main characters.

It's not odd you should say that. The paintings were done by the artist that King hired to draw the Gunslinger, Roland of Deschain, from Stephen King's magnum opus series, The Dark Tower. King wrote Roland to both look and act like Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name from the old spaghetti westerns. In the Dark Tower books, there are many illustrations of Roland. And the instructions to the artist were exactly that. "Make Roland look like Clint." The pictures at the beginning are all from Stephen King stories.
