hehehe Thanks! not in this one but i have seen some interesting crystals mixed into the volcanics in the area
glad you like it, you may want to try this one it is only about 20 minutes from Baker and very easy access, a short way down indian springs trail. you could even park at the pavement and it would only add a few minutes walk.

I have been to the MNP many times and seen so many videos with the cinder cones in the background but have never seen the view from the top. This was amazing! Thanks so much for sharing your adventures!

glad you like it! this is a pretty simple and easy hike, hope you get to try it out. not too hard to find on the satellite map, a little west of aiken mine road. Coincidentally the Preserve has been promoting this hike on their FB page lately

Cool hike, Thorn. I think they use the cinders for laying down on icy roads, as well as for what you mentioned. Thanks for the tour.

Neat! yeah i'm reading that sure is a big use of the lava, and now that you mention it im pretty sure it gets used for gravel roads and even as agg for pavement in the area as well

The view from the top was awesome. Really neat to see the different lava flows. And I appreciate you explaining what a lot of that stuff was as thats a very different landscape than north Texas.

Thanks for sharing especially since I won’t be able to finish exploring Death Valley National Park before I buy the farm let alone follow in your footsteps through the Mojave Preserve.

glad you like it! big rewards for this easy hike, if you do check out the Preserve sometime this should be high on the list of things to do. most people us included do the lava tune first but i found this more fun really. the bike trip goes mostly thru DV you will enjoy that one coming soon. a secret in there we'll see if you notice.

Another awesome video, my friend. Such an other worldly looking place. This could have been footage from the Mars rover lol! Those cinder cones looked really interesting. Any idea what that lava rock would be used for? Probably an aggregate I guess? I really like the view from the top and you can really appreciate the lava flow from up there. Excellent hike for sure!
@potatothorn4 жыл бұрын
glad you like it// i guess for xeriscape lawns/pathways, agg, and of course barbecue grills- although it is not so much anymore, lava rocks were The Thing to put in the gas grill for decades and are still sold at hardware stores/ some of those cuts down the slope may have also been to shut the road off, mining companies often cut off the roads to their claims when they cease operations in case they want to come back later their stuff will be safer... was great to get a bird's eye view of the lava flows for sure...
