That is a smart thing to do. Buy food in the local market and cook it rather than buy food in a resto. It will saves you a lot of money

Kamote is sweet potato... dried fist is often fried flash fried in very hot pan with a little cooking oil, when done right, it will be crunchy. commonly served for breakfast with garlic rice and slices of tomato or cucumber... in western countries I you want meat you go your local butcher shop, if the Philippines you have all the butchers in one place, every grocer has their own favorite shop they are called ""suki" or a regular customer. unlike in western countries, where can ask the butcher which part of meat you want to but purchase, here you tell the butcher the dish you want to cook and he/she will give you specific part and cut needed for that dish.

Thanks for the great information, I like they idea that you ask your butcher for the dish you want to cook, I'll try it

Love cassava cake. My dad used to make it but sadly I did not learn. It is one of my fav when I go to Filipino stores. The veggie next to the purple one is kankong or water spinach. Cook in garlic, oil and salt and add fresh chilli and shrimp paste... These were eels... :-). How does the food compare to Mau?

Thanks for the info, helpful as usual. There is a lot of similarities, but something you think is going to be the same, and it's really different, but we are loving it.

Hope you guys also visit the cities in Western Visayas after Cebu. There's plenty of good food in Bacolod and Iloilo.
