Hi, I am from Brazil and living in New York City for 33 years. I’m crazy about beaches, water, and I have houses by the beach in Rio De Janeiro state. I just told my psychotherapist how nice it is to watch your videos feeling like I am by the water, shelling , and feeling relaxed and alive. Thank you.🏝️🐚🪸

Thank you for my Sunday night shell fix ❤ I am grateful for the tips you give on cleaning up shells. I recently saved some mussel shells from a seafood boil lol, the other diners kinda laughed at me 😆 I soaked them in a little bleach water to remove that periostracum and they are now varying shades of beautiful blue.

Awesome on the crown conchs. Such beautiful views. Herons are my absolute favorite water birds. My ex loved to surf fish on St George island and inevitably a heron always came around. I got some amazing pictures of them. They would walk all around us. They got close hoping to get or steal a fish. They are gorgeous. I wish I could move back to Florida. I miss it. But I can't afford it. I just love your videos and can't wait for Sundays.

So this is the adventure you told me about... Sometimes there are sections of Honeymoon Island that have black scallops. I pick them up, they dry out, and they turn gray... Then they usually get donated 😅. That area of K during "beach time" reminds me a lot of H.I. Oh boy. Sharmon was in FFC heaven with a free pile of them!😂 You really had fun playing in the mud with the crown conchs! They really are beautiful shells. The big broken whelks and horse conchs can be used outside with plants in them - even with holes. Hmmm. Broke your shell bag. Yes, been there. Done that. Had to sew the strap back on!😊 Thanks Sharmon! xxoo

When I visited SW Florida in Fall 2021, I found so many of the types of shells that you find each week. One type that I didn't get a single one of was the Crown Conchs... they're on my bucket list and now I know that I need to look in the mud & muck for them, thanks to you! Last summer I was in Delaware and visited many beaches along the Delaware Bay's western shoreline. I found so many knobbed whelks - from small to quite large, there were literally dozens of them. The majority of them I found on 3 different visits to one beach in particular and they were in the mud and muck, just like the crown conchs. So now I know... If/when I get to SW FL again, I'll definitely go back to Keewaydin and look for them there. As always, thanks for sharing your wonderful excursions and your knowledge. Have a great week!

Hi Sharmon, my dear beach friend, I'm so happy that you were able to kayak again! And I'm happy to see that nature is restoring itself after hurricane Ian. I'm laying here under my crown conch duvet cover, and it's so much fun to see you finding all those hidden gems. It took some elbow grease, but they are gorgeous! 😍 So are the black shells. They have something sinister about them. Don't know why. But they are beautiful! Breaking your shellbag doesn't surprise me at all. I'm curious how you will manage to get all your shells at home. But I'll have to wait another week. I hope you have a fantastic week, filled with happiness, joy, and, of course, amazing shells! Sending you a big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤️, Ilona

The best shell books for you are: R. Tucker Abbott - American Seashells. Cheaper edition is from 1954, which can be downloaded for free from the Biodiversity Heritage Library. In searchable pdf format as well as high quality jp2 format (advanced jpg images). Tucker Abbott is the one author who should not be missing on your bookshelf. The expensive edition of American Seashells is from 1974, a bright blue book which is in demand. Even it's nearly 50 years old you still pay well over 50 dollars for this book. Another big favorite of mine is the book of Myra Keen (1971): Seashells of tropical West America. It is thicker than most bibles... Both books are almost timeless.

I found the PDF of American Seashells and have it book marked. FASCINATING! I've actually been really confused about the siphon and the proboscis and there just isn't a lot of good info out there. Thank you!! I love the Florida Seashells book as I know what I find will either be in that book or I'll have to look elsewhere. I know the shells should be cataloged scientifically, but I wish they were sorted by where they can be found! Thanks so much for all the good info!

Hello, Beach Angel! Keewaydin, such an odd name. Do you know what it means? Such a lovely azure sky above the glass green of the sea. A perfect day to go to the beach! I often wonder whether you're on some beach that particular day and I try to imagine myself wandering along with you. (Don't forget about Pedro!) It makes for a pleasurable pastime on a grey, rainy spring mountain day when it's not yet safe to start planting my new garden roots, sprouts and seeds. We're actually still having frost warnings! I have four pots, each containing a four-foot tomato plant and they already have tomatoes on them! I would love to set them out in the garden, but they'd freeze, or on the screened porch, but they'd get too cold. If I set them in a sunny window, my cats will chew them to pieces, so they're safe behind a closed door in my craft room. I've never kayaked, but I've canoed down the Clinch River, here in East Tennessee. Its cold, clear water harbors more endangered animals than any body of fresh water anywhere, all of them mussels. They are cool critters, but very much protected by strict laws. Okay, focus! The beach! Ah, Beach Time! THAT'S WHAT MY RAIN WEARY SOUL NEEDED! Thanks so much! I do like worm snail shells, they're cool! Broken shells remind me that even broken shells, like broken people, are beautiful and worth keeping, sometimes. I guess it depends on how badly broken they are. What a beautiful sunrise calico scallop! It's a little large, though, for my needs. Still, it's very lovely. I never saw them except on your beaches, dear Angel. It's nice shelling today, not the frantic rush to pick up everything that sometimes causes us to wish we had more hands. A lazy wander down the beach, stopping now and then to pick up shells is good once in a while. That little crown conch is a beauty! You're not the only mud puppy out there today! You've got an egret for company. The egrets always try to look so dignified, but when they fly away, they're so gawky! I'm not so much a fan of the slimy stuff, so I'll have to let you play with the crown conchs. I'll be interested in seeing what's under the muck. You should make yourself a viewing can to look under the muddy water. Think about a paint can wearing a diving mask. Used to have one, many years ago, when I did a lot of shelling on the sand bar off the Point at the mouth of Pensacola Bay. The current is way too strong there to go down below unless it's really worth the struggle. There's really good shelling, though, in the trough between the bar and the island. That crown conch is sure hauling shell! Its world is just as wonderful as the Maker imagined it to be. That place is a million miles from anywhere, but only a paddle away from home, or so it seems. Oh, how lovely! A piece of sea glass! They make lovely pendants if they're wire wrapped. That second piece would be dangerous with that sharp point! Ouch! Oh, what a great fossil! I wonder if Ian exposed and damaged an ancient underwater fossil bed? I recall you finding that shell that went extinct so long ago. There may very well be a connection. Have you mentioned that to your instructor at school? It would be interesting knowing if there have been other fossils found. Didn't someone else find a fossil that you showed on a video? Well, I'll be doggoned! There were beautiful shells under all that gunk! I'm impressed at your ability to clean them up! Good on you, girl! Oh no! You broke your shell bag? Too many fighting conchs!? How awful! Now you'll have to use Pedro's help! Hee haw! 😂 Much love and seashells, too, from The Lost Mermaid🧜

I was curious about Keewaydin and what it means and would you believe one of the meanings is Northwest wind in Native American? NW winds are good and what we want to drive the shells onto the beach. Go figure. Maybe native Americans loved seashells too! Keewaydin was gorgeous. Some people actually have homes there. As much as I like the idea of living on an island, I think I'm too much of a creature of comfort and the inconvenience of island living would drive bananas. At least I have access to a bunch of them right? Hope you're having a super week!

Are you ever concerned about quicksand?? Mudflats seem like prime real estate for dangerous patches.

I have not encountered quicksand but the sand can get super mushy. Losing a shoe is more likely than getting stuck 😂

I’m thinking sea glass may be more plentiful in the coming years due to the hurricane, I have no idea how long it has to roll around out there before it becomes sea glass.

I mentioned I’ve been cleaning my shells. They were collected 20-54 years ago. I have one shell I desperately need help with! Where can I send you a picture of it to see if you may know what it is. It’s very pretty! I love the crown conch in this video & hope some day I can find one! Thanks to your wonderful videos, I’ve been able to identify most of my shells but this one! If you have an email where I can send picture & shell size or can I post ion your Facebook page. I’ve been searching you videos trying to find shell similar to one in question! So far, no luck! Thanks!

I use bleach for just about everything - at 100% strength too. Maybe a 50/50 bleach soak for 24 hours to see?
