I love how u kept it real with showing “summer” shelling. And what everyone should expect.. A lot of KZbinrs post winter shelling during summer so it confuses all of us. People actually plan vacations based on KZbin content. U say summer, great!!! .. I know u need time to edit ect. Maybe a suggestion would be month/year on when u went. Love ur mapping, love ur tide charts love ur lightning app suggestions. I Love everything. People from all over the country look at some videos posted “2 days ago” when really it’s like 7 months ago and they get their hopes up on how it will be. So I love the fact that u don’t do that!!! Im thinking u post ur videos maybe at most a month after? And to all who watch should know that cuz it means a lot!!! U are one of few that post real time(ish) and it’s awesome. Maybe a short clip on “July” at whatever beach and “January” at the same beach. Clips from past trips. Idk I live 4 hrs away and rely on KZbin. I would hate for people in Washington state or Maine ect lol to be mislead and plan this whole vacation without facts. Which you absolutely give. So all u northerners… enjoy all shelling videos but this KZbinr is the real deal!!!

First - what a flipping awesome idea to do a "winter" vs. "summer" shelling video. I know what you mean about confusing people as I do watch pieces of other KZbinrs (wish I had time to watch them all!) and I'm scratching my head going when was this? I get nervous that something will happen and I won't be able to go shelling so I usually drop my videos about 3 weeks behind when I film them. So I am "almost" real time but not quite ☺️ That being said I can do a winter/summer video anytime so I am definitely adding that to the list! And I'm pinning this comment in case it can help other people planning a SWFL Florida trip!

@@SWFBeachLife KZbin dates are definitely confusing. I wish all KZbinrs would post the actual date of the video right at the beginning of the video, and in the title. That would help sooo much! We’re planning a move from SoCal to central Florida later this year for retirement, so I’m hoping to be able to make many trips to SWF for shelling/beachcombing once we’re there permanently. 😊

@@DebbieDeLuna I will try to remember to at least add the month to my videos. I don't want to give up ALL my secrets but I can certainly tell you what time of year I'm out there. It's usually only a few weeks behind the current date.

I went “shelling” yesterday around a swimming pool that was decorated with shells. I was so proud I could identify some of them; spiny jewel box, kitten paws, Florida fighting conch, etc. they were all bleached white, and, of course, I had to leave them. Someday soon I will get to the beach.

Me and my 9 year old daughter love your channel! We ordered a few books, my daughter’s favorite shell is Junonia! She knew she will find it one day. I didn’t believe we ever would. We took Hemingway shuttle from Marco Island 🏝 to Keewaydin island a couple of weeks ago ( this was our special vacation, we are from dallas, texas)… My daughter prayed to find Junonia and we did! It was beach worn a bit, but it was Junonia nevertheless!

Hello, Beach Angel! You have no idea how happy your greeting makes me! Sorry I'm late to be posting. I did start to watch the latest, but fell asleep. Still waiting, this time for exhaustive testing to try to mitigate the disaster the last open heart was. The surgeon says he has an idea of how to make it less destructive to my body this time. I just have to be patient and trust him and the God who holds my heart in His hands. I'll let you know when there's a surgery date. My husband promises that when the surgery is over and I'm stronger, we can visit his brothers near Orlando and then use some of our miles to find a place to stay near the Gulf so I can shell or just sit and listen to the sea. Many happy wentletraps to you! Love from The Lost Mermaid

Lordy that's a big surgery. I know you've been waiting a few weeks and I hope everything goes smoothly. Just keep thinking about that beach you're going to sit on when this is all over. I know just the spot - over at Lighthouse Beach so you can pick up tiny shells and maybe even score a wentletrap. Be well mermaid and think salty thoughts! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I look forward to your beach walk every Sunday evening. My husband and I camped on Sanibel for two weeks so I could shell and he could fly his controlled kites. It was so awesome. I also loved going t o the Jay Ding Daring preserve and watch the roseate spoon bills fishing for their supper. So many wonders to see. We also camped in Destin Florida and I was disappointed because the wee no shells. A year or two after our visit a big. Hurricane went along the coast and it really destroyed that whole area, but it looks very nice again.

You have dream shelling beaches in Sanibel. Every week your videos bring new surprises. I really liked the skate piece, the apple murax shells, the wentle traps, the Paul Newman shark eye and the sharp ribbed shell too. I appreciate that we get to view the shelling areas up close with you. What lovely tiny's this time. Looking forward to the shell trip next week. Thanks for the relaxing beach time. So peaceful. There were a few too many people for me 🤣, if I was to walk the beaches, I'd have to go somewhere a little less crowded which I guess is hard when the beaches are obviously so popular. I appreciate all that you do to bring us great content on your channel. Much thanks again. Rachelle, Australia 🦘🌏 xo

I like this time of year down here. It's hot and the shells are harder to find, but it's a lot quieter. We get very busy down here in the winter with people from the north wanting to escape the cold. That's when it really gets tricky to have the beach to myself, but the shells also seem to be more abundant so I guess there is a payoff. Thank you so much for coming to the beach with me all the way from Australia!

I keep all my tools in the trunk of my car but I think a little sifter might very much help looking through the little/micro shells if you need to press "pause" for a minute to look through them. That garden tool I got was very light and I'm not really any good at digging for shells (yet) but it seemed like a good idea to get. It might come in handy in the future. I hope you do go hunting for the wentletraps and you manage to find a few. They're hard to find but so fun if you actually manage to get a few!

So love your beach walks, am now fascinated seashells and can't wait to get to Florida to spend some time on the beach! So a trip from Michigan is due in the very near future.....just crossing fingers I don't time my trip to coincide the 'red tide'!. Was fun to watch your video of all your organized and beautifully displayed shell collections and so nice to connect a voice with a face as we never get to see you on your walks......just a bit of the sleeve of your long-sleeved jacket or top, lol! Now that has lead me to question what do you wear to protected yourself from the hot Florida sun on your beach walks? I did not see any clothing links below your videos....... Oh! and I've never seen a t-shirt sized by width - what a great idea, never measured my width before, quite amusing:-). One more question; does Heather have a connection to cute little air conditioned cottages or condos in a safe area for single gals to stay for a week or two to do some shelling in your area? Can't wait to hear from you, a thousand thank you's!

I have lived here a little over 3 years and so far I've only experienced a little red tide back in 2019. It's been clear for a few years down here and with the work that's been done in the Everglades to help clean the water hopefully that will keep it away! I wear a long sleeve shirt almost all the time to protect myself from the sun. I use 50+ sunscreen on my legs, and I wear a big floppy hat to protect my head, neck and face. I haven't found a perfect shirt but if I do I'll be sure to add a link! And unfortunately Heather doesn't do rentals - only home sales. I have tried to partner with a good company that can help my viewers find a place to stay if they decide to come down here but I haven't had any interest!! I'm sorry I don't have a better recommendation other than finding something on VRBO. I hope to change that in the future!

@SWFBeachLife
@SWFBeachLife Жыл бұрын
The coloring is different on those shells most of the time. Pinks and purples mean they are calico scallops. The orangey/red ones are the bay scallops. Then to make things fun, they both come in white, so those I will say I do have a harder time figuring out!

Finally getting a chance to watch Sunday’s video and saw you hint at the difference between the front and back of the calico scallops. ☺️ Curious about the comment you made at 10:28 about starfish. Are they technically called sea stars or is the term more regional? I had never heard them called sea stars until watching your videos. Growing up on the coast of Maine and going there for frequent visits, I have never heard them called sea stars, always starfish. As always, thank you for the lovely ocean sounds, views and shells! I can almost feel the water whispering over my ankles.

I'll show you the next time I find a live or hinged calico scallop - the 2 sides have different patterns. And yes, there really isn't such a thing as a star fish - technically they are all sea stars. I know everyone calls them star fish but figured I'd let people who were interested know. I love random trivia. Maine has such pretty beaches with all the rocks. I've never been up there but it sure looks pretty!

@@SWFBeachLife I look forward to seeing the hinged calico scallop - or a live one with its resident critter. Maybe we’ll even come across one when we’re (hopefully) in Florida for a visit this coming winter. Maine is beautiful, but I am rather biased. I don’t typically find much for shells, but Solace in Shelling seems to hit the right spots that I’m missing, so I live vicariously through his finds. Aside from that, I’m pretty happy discovering sea glass when I can. Love that stuff!! Thanks for the “sea star” tutorial - it is interesting although it may be hard for me to change terms at this point in life. 😊
