Great video Ethan. It’s a shame they’re tearing so many of those homes down. When you first showed the brown tile bathroom, it immediately reminded me of my grandpa‘s home that was built in 1956 all original. Metal kitchen cabinets. The bathroom was pink, pink tub, pink tile, pink wall mount sink and toilet. Floor was pink and white tile. I liked both bathrooms, the brown, and especially the pink one bringing the memories of my grandpa.

I'm with you Ethan. Houses built in the early 1900s are the best quality. Houses today are very cheaply made. My son is 39 and loves old Houses that have the beautiful woodwork. That 60s house you showed is beautiful!! I sure would love to live in it. Soo sad it's going to be demolished!! Just to put up a cookie cutter development. Thanks for this one.....loved it!!❤

That first room, with the matching curtains and wallpaper, that was a very 80s thing. The valance was called a balloon valance, dyi ladies would stuff them with whatever, (like plastic grocery bags) to make them balloon. Thanks for another great video.

You are right Ethan , the older houses were much more robust, The Amana fridges were super quality, that's probably why its still there. I'm pretty sure the narrow brick in the fireplace were thermal, to retain the warmth from use. Cheers

This is a House Worth Saving. Built solid, I love the layout too !! I expected the Basement to be bigger, but other then that it was Beautiful !! I loved the Retro Bathrooms and all the built ins and pot lights and there was so much room in this one. The Kitchen was so neat, and a big eating area plus a nice Dining Room. They don't make tile like they used too, nice and shiny and easier to clean. It is all cheap stuff now a days.

Love this house! Definitely more personality than most new homes. Love all the built ins. Framing a fireplace and in the dining room, even in basement. Kitchen really big for its time. Love the staircase. And love those bathrooms! That square tile is always so shiny even 50 and 60 years new. Love the colors. Love when they wallpaper ceilings. Get the mold and asbestos remediated and this house would be ready to host another family’s story. I despise the greed that costs a beautiful home it’s life. Why do homes have to become larger and larger? So many times I would much rather have the older character filled home which would be difficult to recreate. This home has so many nice features and a lot of space. I loved the pink and brown tiled bathrooms. The kitchen has so much storage. I also loved the built-in cabinets and shelves. Great house. I grew up in Oakville Ontario, my parents bought the bungalow brand new build in 1958. Our main bath had that pink tile and master 1/2 bath was black and white tile. We had same floor in basement and kitchen floor same checkered just a bit darker. After we sold it then it got torn down but was surprised another bungalow got built and not a huge home. We had 3/4 of an acre, lived 4 houses from lake Ontario. So many huge homes have replaced other bungalows on the street. Thanks for showing the pink tile, brought back so many memories and youre right once there gone you cant rebuild the same.

I love this home!!😍 This is one of my favorite eras of homes, and especially these that have been left almost entirely original! The features and finishes are incredible! I love everything about it, from the skylights to the fireplaces, to the floors, even the newer plush carpet looks of high quality! I love the original bathrooms that are in amazing condition!🤩 I totally agree that this era of homebuilding consisted true quality of materials and features that gave homes real character! I think at this point in history everything has been done and redone, and copied and reinvented, but I don't think it can never be truly replicated, at least not without being extremely costly, if even then. I appreciate and like so many different types of architecture and styles, but I think homes of this era, especially rare gems like this one, are truly unique and special, and are sadly disappearing at an alarming rate! It is a great thing you do, to document these, preserving history in that way, and giving us all that truly appreciate it, a chance to enjoy them! 💖✨✌️

I like to watch your videos to compare how houses in Canada compare to the houses in New Zealand. This house is very similar to houses built in the 60's in NZ. My mothers house was built in the 50's and added onto early 60's. I remember we had the ball lamp shades and most houses had wallpaper on the walls which did not match the carpets or curtains. Mum painted the walls in the end with washable white paint, then it became white wallpaper to match in with the Taupe coloured carpet and plain curtains in the 1980's.After dad died, she sold her house and bought a 2 bedroom 1level town house. Her old house was pulled down and 3 new houses were built on the property. Many houses in my area are being pulled down for 20 town houses to be built on the property. I suppose it is demand and supply these days. No where for kids to play. My first house was an 1882 Villa with a veranda, high ceilings and huge rooms and I now live in a 1940's brick Bungalow with 2 bedrooms. No doubt it will be gone in a few years too. The farm house I bought 19 yrs. ago has the original cedar ceiling & walls in the living room & hall, original tub, flooring, vanity & mirror in the main bathroom. The 3 bedrooms & laundry room-- mud room have the imitation wood paneling. I have had to up grade some of the flooring & did a complete reno on the master bath. It was in sad shape but it is now my palace.

Ethan … while our 1955 ranch is less than half the size of this home, there are many similarities. But what you’d truly love is our pink and gray bathroom - tub, sink and toilet, all pink. Gray and pink tile walls, the toilet paper holder is pink! And the vanity? Pink/gray/white Formica boomerang design. Since we are both 50’s babies it feels like home and we have no desire to “upgrade” 😝

This home is one of the best and should be saved, put a new roof on it and fix some ceilings here and there and new paint and wall paper and some new flooring here and there it's actually considered a light rehab home. Nothing supper drastic, mostly cosmetic. This place has good bones and a good feel to it, truly really like this home. Love the kitchen and Sun/breakfast room and love love love the dining room, both living areas are so nice. I could imagine a beautiful Christmas tree in front of that big Bay window in the large living room and how beautiful that was with the fireplace with a warm fire going.

The custom draperies are beautiful......must have cost a fortune. This house is such a perfect example of a 1960s "colonial" cape cod style house so popular then. I would love to have seen the original baths and kitchen. That wallpaper all looks to be original to when the house was built. Such a lovely, gracious home.

Actually the thing in the kitchen cupboard you took out is a mini torch, I have one, I use it to melt the sugar on top of creme Brulee when I make it then the sugar becomes a hard shell on top.

Ethan, paper browns as it ages. Look at old books compared to new books. Back in the 50's and 60's they didn't always have ceiling lights. They used lamps on tables.

I grew up in smaller versions of this house. Being a military brat we moved around a few times. When you were upstairs and opened the closet that said "Don't remove items from this closet you nearly touched the long stick in that closet. That's what was used to open and close the skylight blinds. I would like to know how long the house was unoccupied (unfaded white light switches tell me only a few years). I noticed the deep freezer in the basement was unplugged, that's an electricity hog so it's obvious most appliances were turned off so the electric bill would be a trickle. Most likely the demolition contractor had the electricity turned back on so h could do pre-demo prep work inside the house with power tools. Dude, mask-up when you go into old homes. That mold presence (not to mention asbestos) will definitely muck up your respiratory system. Quite often in America, such homes will be completely off limits to anyone not wearing a Hazmat suit. The housing complex outside of Yorktown Naval Weapons Station (Newport News, VA) is totally abandoned (built late 50s) and entirely locked up for just such a cause. If you want to see untouched 50's and 60s housing....head to Virginia and get a permit to inspect that entire subdivision before it's flattened. Definitely need a hazmat suit due to the vast amounts of black mold in those homes. Collapsing floors and other house parts also an issue there. Your sniffles and cough were signs that your lungs felt the mold spores entering your body. Be safe.

Not necessarily smoking. Natural gas heat also discolors walls and ceilings. I believe the wallpaper and matching drapes was Laura Ashley? Very 1980s. The grass cloth paper is very cool

This house is outdated but it's clean and doesn't look like there's much damage .. even better than some homes today. I would most definitely live in this home and carry on.

A house builder and renovator would tell you that the damage you do see (mold, water, warping) is just a tiny glimpse of what the real damage is. Needs a new roof and significant replacement of interior structures was my take on this video. Then there's the question about electrical/plumbing upgrades....and asbestos cleanup. You'd need a hazmat suit if you were living there. I can't get my head around the final bill to be paid so that this house would be livable. Apparently somebody did that cost analysis and, sadly enough, made a tough decision to scrap it.

You are right about the ceiling height it looks very low usually when people do build homes they have to go with building codes like make the ceilings tall enough so tall people won't hit the ceilings and make holes.

They definitely don't build them like they used to, I love the brown and pink bathrooms. That skylight in order to let the sun in the blind slides backwards, they used a long stick with a hook on the end to slide the blind back and forward depending on what you wanted to do, I love those built in bookshelf or display shelf with the clam shell feature, I bet that looked nice in its natural. Even my house is more spacious inside than it looks from the outside. My house is only 1895 SF but has 4 bedrooms & 3 full baths 🛁. It’s nothing special. Just a cookie cutter 🏡 but it’s mine & I love it! It’s all I could afford in California at the time. I call it my little house with big rooms 😂 which is basically what it is 😂 I dream 💭 of something bigger & nicer sometimes, which is why I love watching your vids, but, the older I get the less it matters. I totally agree with you about these old homes being built to last. They were homes and not just houses. We can see this house had quality workmanship when built but now will be replaced with some “McMansion” to show off someone’s wealth. Loved your reaction when you saw the original upstairs bathrooms.

Asbestos and lead-based paint are factors in demolishing these old beauties. Wish developers would construct their new houses according to the old blueprints. But if wishes were pennies we'd all be rich...

what a nice1960's home and a great video Ethan what I can say is with the Houses in the 1960's and even the 70's and its the same with houses in Australia as well they all had very big rooms so you can fit a lot of furniture in them that is what they are design for so when you have family and friends you host a party and not cramp up as though your in a tuna tin so to speak but these new modern home are even bigger again but i and you i prefer the old style of houses they did have class and style but you are right Ethan by the time you reach your 40s the old houses be gone by the year 2044 there be no old houses left or mansions but new modern house and mansions so thank you for a great video and look forward to see you in the next video

Putting wall to wall carpeting over wonderful hardwood floors was a thing when I was growing up in the 1960's. Blond, narrow hardwood is likely under all that carpet upstairs. Great video. Thanks.

Ethan, I totally agree with you on these homes, and it’s just a shame, because the materials that they used back in the day were real wood, real marble, real granite and Imported tile. And to reduplicate some of these homes, it’s never gonna happen because it would cost you an arm and a leg to do so it is just a shame that they can’t try to salvage some of these homes but that’s supposedly progress I guess😮😢. And this particular home like you said, belonged to a Upper middle class person and probably had an interior decorator to decorate the house in full measure, and homes were meant to last you your lifetime and apparently this one did with the individual that owned this home is just yet sad because I think he was, or she was a smoker and that also helps with the deterioration of the walls and the wallpaper but it is what it is you take care and be safe and thank you for your videos.🫶🏻🤠
