Love the video (as always) Gary! I love that you hike to all these remote places and bring them to us! I go out regularly to the Sierra's and when I see how steep the hill is to the creek, I usually back away as I am afraid of killing myself! Ah, the Sierra batholith -- proper high mountains made out of good old grantic plutons. Our high Cascades up here in Oregon are just some dang ol' stratovolcanoes -- basalt and basaltic andesite, and crappy tuff, and such. I suppose millions of years from now, when the Cascades are dead, the mountains will get worn down to their magma chambers, and with any luck, some force will act to shove those plutons up into the sky. Until then, gold hunters are stuck with the Western Cascades.

You call that a creek? I call it a river! I never understood why Dinky Creek is considered a creek, either! It’s not dinky, and it’s also, in my mind, considered a rushing river! I live on a creek in Lake County......it rushes during winter storms, and in the summer, it’s still quite cold, but the only way to cool off! The entire area has really eroded since the Valley Fire burned 1/3 of Southern Lake County, stealing the lives of a couple of our neighbors and multitudes of wildlife, but the rattlers and a small population if Deer still consider it home. I often wonder with all of the iron and sulfur if there is any gold in there! We have a couple of really old mines nearby, but I am too old to trek into the backlands alone. However, some of the Hot springs are right on the way according to the maps. I’m right in the area of the Geysers and we have our own daily quakes, so being in a mine might not be the wisest choice!
