I used to work there back in 1998 for a few years. This brought back so many memories. I used to run the conssesion stand. The popcorn used to be made upstairs and put in bags. Also, to stock the food, I had to bring the boxes all the way down those stairs. Those were the best days!!!

I worked there as a relief projectionist from 1982-1994. I can't tell you how sad it is to see the projection booth in shambles. I saw my chair I used to use and the ashtray he pulled out. There were a few items in the booth I recognized , cause I used them. I had tried to get permission from the owners to enter the building and retrieve them before it gets destroyed by the elements. Their answer was no, cause of mold. So now, I have to watch others enter it, but no way to get the items.

I spent many hours there in the 1980s. Before it was built there was a drive-in theater on the site. Good to see some people exploring it 👍🏻

Last movie I saw there was Starwars Episode 3. Sad to see it in this condition. Lots of memories there.

Those CDs were DTS sound tracks. The reason is DTS was a late digital movie sound standard. Dolby Digital and Sony already took the last of the space on the film where you could put optical digital data. They even had optical data between the sprocket holes. The old analog tracks were also still on the film so it remained standard in any theater.

At 1:00 the machine you looked at was an old "Automaticket" ticket dispenser
@embomagic7433 жыл бұрын
I salvaged one of these ticket machines from an old cinema I used to work at. You don't see them much any more. I hope someone saves this one.
@96cobraguy3 жыл бұрын
as one of the last cashiers there, that ticket dispenser wasn't used in the last 10-15 years. i was there from 2000-2005
@embomagic7433 жыл бұрын
Yeah the one I salvaged was the same. They tended to seize up if not used and multiplexes preferred computerised ticketing systems and so the old automaticket machines soon got replaced. Was lovely to see this one though. Wish I could save it 😊 (big cinema geek!) I bet it was sad seeing the place you used to work look like that now 😔

So fun watching this! We’ve got a theater that was closed and abandoned last year that’s still untouched, right Nextdoor to an old indoor amusement park called Itz that’s been abandoned for close to 10 years now.

My father and mother had their first date at this movie theatre way back on April 6th 1984 to see Romancing the Stone and went to see countless movies throughout the 80’s and 90’s the last movie they saw at that theatre was Monster in Law in 2005 Lot of great memories for them at this movie theatre

I never knew you could get the sound from a cd, most film reels either used the analog sound or there was a small line to the end of the strip for the Dolby digital sound

When theaters were designed to watch a movies and grab some snacks. Regal has twisted it with dinner at your seats, dining areas, electronic sign ins/seating. I’m 23 so I’m pretty cool with the modern vibe in some instances but theaters and malls should always have that retro experience

I went to this theater so many times in my late teens/early 20s. I miss it so much. Memories.

Any idea when it opened/ closed? Where is it?
@massive6113 жыл бұрын
@@michaelrobins1866 Not sure when it opened, but it closed around 2005. From what I recall, the theater was found to have been built on unstable land. It's located on the south banks of the Raritan River, south of Perth Amboy, north of Sayreville NJ. Right in between the fork of Route 9 and Route 35.

Awesome video urbex and chill 👌 question though. I noticed the theater after the concession stand has a hallway in it, 5 I believe? Was wondering where it lead to? I noticed 5 and 6 have just a door instead like theater 3 rather then the two doors in the center that lead to the isles like 7-14. Also theater 2 looks sick! Never knew that the roof deteriorated that bad in there. I wonder how often they had to patch the roof up during the years it was open if it was prone to that much rust. Also the ceilings are trashed probably from people trying to salvage copper to bring to the junk yard down the road. Also any idea if the lobby has a basement under it? I remember someone mentioning that there was a crawl space under the front lobby area, curious if the floor warped into that crawl space or into the regular ground.

A typical Showcase/Multiplex Cinemas location built by Redstone Management (National Amusements) predating the stadium megaplexes of the late 90s. One of the smaller, narrow auditoriums looks like it was once a bigger theatre but later split into two centre-aisle theatres, and looks like it would've shown films in mono sound. The large rocker seats would've been quite comfortable for their time, they would still be if it wasn't for the mold and dust that was covering them. Notice the lack of cupholders in the armrests or behind the seats, which many newer multiplexes that were built in the late 80s and early 90s would've had.

Last time I seen a movie here I couldn’t believe how run down it was the rug was holy and ripped up and the place looked dirty. And I seen freaky Friday with Lindsay Lohan august 2003 with my little sister.
@JohnPedimore3 жыл бұрын
The first machine you went to Is an old ticket dispenser, what you would do is press the button for how many tickets one needed and they would pop out and then he would take it over to the ticket taker and they would rip the ticket for you. Nothing like today that has the theater number. Typically they only had one or two theaters. This theater is an old refit. Panic button was to shut the projector down in a film wrap. The brain on the carousel would often misread the platter and you would get a wrap around the brain. Often you would have to do a refund on tickets if you could not fix it fast. The patrons would appeared to be a film burn. And yes it would burn but only about a foot or two of film would be lost. If this issue happened often and allot of film was destroyed you would have missing scenes in the movie.
@edwardhawley95033 жыл бұрын
While I was projectionist there, there was never a panic to shut down the projectors. Eventually the film would break with a wrap event around the brain. Could have been installed after 1994, I guess. I take it you worked in the booth maybe?

These weren't in use in my theatre by like 1997. We had normal late 90s pcs by then. :)

My theatre had an alarm that would go off in the lobby when something like that happened, Regal didn't like the alarms and disabled them.
