This grocery store reminds me of the now tractor supply in Levelland Texas that was an abandoned alco . Tractor supply came in and restored the building and it now has life again.

I wonder if it has something to do with heating/air conditioning and stuff like that which would likely no longer be running to ventilate the places, but would regularly run while the place is open and in use. That, on top of regular repairs to maintain buildings.

This was a different chain of Food Town stores - owned by Seaway Food Town. Only had stores in SE MI and NW/Central Ohio.

I worked for the parent company that took over Food Town (now called SpartanNash). I remember when they announced that they were shutting them down. I actually went down to a couple Food Town and The Pharm stores to help pack and close them down. Crazy to see this building in terrible condition.

Spartan killed Foodtown and the pharm! We knew it wouldn’t last 5 yrs the way they were running it. They came in saying Oh they’re a “Christian” company blah blah don’t worry they’ll treat you good. Yeah they treated us right into unemployment! Biggest joke out of Michigan!

Those were some baller retro incandescent light fixtures. I know they gon judge but I'd a took them bulbs right up out of there. Still got some tubular 20 watt candleabra incandescents from inside the abandoned post office in New Castle.

Looks like the Food Town that was across from where the old Woodville Mall used to stand on the east side of Toledo, Ohio. I just passed through there a few weeks ago, my first time by there in years. That area has really changed.

Geez this place is in horrible shape. Reminds me of the abandoned Acme in Egg Harbor Township, NJ which was also badly vandalized, which is a shame because it had the 70s colonial decor package. Also how old was this Food Town store?

This construction appears to be from 1985-1990 era. Might have been rebuilt or extensively renovated.

Living in Toledo as a kid, every Food Town I remember was connected to a Kmart. There was one by Southwick Mall and one on.....Reynolds? I think? Those are the two that spring to mind, but I know there were AT LEAST two more.

Once upon a time there was a Food Town in Danville, Ky. It closed up about 25 years ago. Was small, but had great service.

Where the store is, it’s less than 1 mile from the Norfolk Southern, Chicago main line. That’s your train horn. Very busy stretch of track

I worked for Food Town in NJ when I was a teenager in the 80s. I only know of one other in NJ and another in NY. Its a name mostly forgotten.

My mom worked there for many years barely recognize the building before it was Foodtown. It was a cash and carry then before cash and carry it was it toy store and the building has been added on a couple times then when Spartan took over that’s when Foodtown closed in the early 2003 I believe and in every place where the roof caved in and has daylight that’s where the roof was leaking before the store closed if you ever noticed across the street where Farm and family is at one time it used to be a Hills/Ames department store then at one point it was a Steve N Barry’s sporting goods

Back in the day, there was a Former A&P/FOOD TOWN which was located on Detroit's Eastside. When, the Former A&P /FOOD TOWN had a Fire and the owners never rebuilt the store after the Fire and The City of Detroit ,Demolished the Burned-out Former A&P /FOOD TOWN and to ,this very day is a abandoned vacant lot.

Yeah I remember the old Farmer Jack's on Telegraph that became Glory Market until some hobo lit a grocery cart of crap on fire and pushed it through the front doors and that was the end of that place.

Looks like you are located in or around Ohio. Have you come across or are familiar with an Ohio department store chain called Hills??? That was my favorite store as a kid in the 70’s and 80’s. The store in Sandusky was something to see.
