In this video, we explore a large abandoned religious school used as a nursing home in later years in Ireland. The building contains ornate architecture, belongings left behind and a stunning church, dating back to the early 1800s.

Welcome to Ireland. Another Irish building with a pre nursing home history of abuse. Cant figure out the older looking church tower bit just looks out of place. Thanks for sharing and taking the trouble of popping over here.

Great job guys.I'm a bit behind watching your videos due to work and family issues but I enjoyed every single one.The stairs at 5:09 and other features are identical to one derelict Magdalene building in Cork.

I can’t believe you walked over some of those seriously dodgy floors! The chapel was lovely. And stunning view of the banisters up to the skylight. Was thinking after what you’ve shown us it’s a very positive thing when you see some old buildings being used as bars or restaurants. Doesn’t matter what they are being used for as long as they are being used and people get to see them and a little bit more history is retained instead of yet another cheap new structure

We filmed our first ever KZbin video here... It was in better condition and had lot's of stuff left in it, please on your Irish trip try to keep the name's and other detail's quiet as this can bring unwanted attention to these place's. The person who bought this house tried to repair the roof but with the OPW here in Ireland they will not let you repair the roof any other way than the original which would cost way too much. I believe the owner had already started to put a new roof on and was made to stop. Here is the result!

It's so pity! I understand the regulations and laws because in Poland we have the same type, you can't use anything than the most historically accurate materials and due to that many places are rooting. I do get the idea behind the law but I wonder if we ever get to the consciousness that it won't save those places!

I understand both sides of the debate but if authentic restoration is too expensive then there can be no restoration and eventually everything is lost. But is modern materials are used then some of the original character and authenticity is lost but it allows SOMETHING to be preserved for posterity. This seems to be an inflexible and short sighted policy which achieves the opposite of what is intended.
@yermanoffthetelly
@yermanoffthetelly 8 ай бұрын
@@philiptownsend4026Indeed, there should be a sensible amount of flexibility. So many buildings have been and will be lost because of such a position. Unscrupulous developers have also taken to burning out buildings so that they no longer have to adhere to conservation measures. Better to save some of the original features and document what can't be saved than lose them all.

I'd be interested to know how many homeless people are in that area that could have been housed there if it had been taken over and re-purposed while it was still salvageable at reasonable cost and if it is a rural area with very few homeless if people from other mire populated areas would have moved there to escape homelessness or bad domestic situations even on a temporary stay basis until they can sort their situations out ?
@notwhereyouthink
@notwhereyouthink 2 жыл бұрын
It was never salvageable. The roof had already collapsed after it was purchased and so much water had got into the building the integrity of the flooring and walls were compromised making it a death-trap.

At 7:27 I'm quite sure you caught a ghost. As you exit the room and pan out to the hallway you can see a dark figure move to the left into the dark corner. I've watched it in slow Mo a few times I'm quite sure of it.

Bet those walls could tell some stories, probably a lot of them that would end up with people in jail. Abuse was rife in places like this by so called religious people, who will end up going straight to hell (if you believe in all that).
@philiptownsend4026
@philiptownsend4026 Жыл бұрын
Indeed. They say the believe in heaven and hell yet they behave in a way that ensures they go to the the bad place. Can't fathom that. So pleased I saw through religion as a teenager and more than 50 years later still know I was right back then.
