26:05 That room is called a hot cell. The glass is impregnated with lead, which gives it that distinctive yellow color. It uses several panes of this lead glass in series to block high levels of radiation from escaping. Interestingly, multiple panes of thick glass in series would be difficult to see through because of repeated distortion, so oil with the same optical properties is added to fill between the panes and make it appear as one. In an old, disrepaired condition like this the oil may be breaking down, exaggerating any visible distortion or parallaxing as they called it in this video.

Okay really small detail, but I appreciate that he introduced everyone as his friends before anything else. Too often I feel bad for the cameramen in videos like this because they’re told to stay quiet and ‘not ruin the footage’. I much prefer this kind of set up where everyone’s contributions are accepted and even encouraged. Great people all around.

@Kehath definitely not common with big names, and def not on the side of KZbin that’s occupied by wendigoon and Markiplier, who are some of the nicer people on this site I would imagine. I’m more referring to small-scale variety creators, and tbh I was making a bit of a straw man as I can’t think of any off people off the top of my head. Also almost every video has a camera man, think of any vlog where you don’t hear the guy behind the camera talking.
@jackryan4313
@jackryan4313 Жыл бұрын
Spot on. The cameramen are always in the background even tho their expertise on film is what majorly contributes to the production. Photography/film is NOT easy and NOT simple by any means. There's a reason you can find tons of videos of pros vs amateurs where the pro has a Walmart setup and the amateur has a Hollywood setup that's exponentially more expensive, and the pro far outclasses them with ease

9:00 hi chemical engineer here. Those are alarms that operators monitor while the plant runs. The ones that were focused on were for tank level and they indicated if the fluid level was too high or low. The top line was the number designated to that tank. There are likely also ones for temperature and pressure.

I think this is GTI in Barnwell, SC, and it was a reactor disassembly facility. They were going to build a plant nearby, and got 2 reactors in, but then aborted the plant, so GTI was built for the reactors, and is now a training facility for LEO/military.

Automation engineer here: The panel is just discrete I/O indication “LAH-XXXX” is the device tag for a level high switch etc. These are not alarms and this panel would probably always be lit up like a Christmas tree. An operator might consult this panel before launching a procedure to ensure the necessary conditions are met, like a source vessel being full or destination vessel being empty etc.

The slight yellowish lighting in most of the corridors and rooms give this a Backrooms kind of feel, and it's only made more surreal by how the rooms go from large open halls with deep shafts to narrow, uncomfortable corridors. It's such a strange place. I would absolutely love to see Wendigoon and his friends visit more strange abandoned locations like this, it's fun to watch.

Did some research, this is an abandoned nuclear reprocessing site. It was supposed to be used to recycle spent fuel from nuclear reactors, but construction was unfortunately cancelled in the mid 70's. Genuinely an awesome video and a rare view of the interior of a little-known facility! You can find some really good photos from its construction showing these rooms as they were, its pretty fascinating! The people behind the STALKER film couldn't have chosen a better place to use, its got that perfect eerie atmosphere that meshes well with the games! also really happy they chose a whole bunch of awesome people to be in the project!

The odd looking window at 26:18 is a radiation-blocking viewing window. These types of windows are used in laboratories that specialize in nuclear chemistry, and the yellow discoloration comes from oil sealed within the different layers of the window. Usually rooms with such windows have no direct access, but the materials inside are manipulated by mechanical arms controlled from outside.

Actually on the bit about an armory, that might actually make sense. I took a tour of an old nuclear reactor and there were concrete firing ports built in places. It’s in case someone gets the bright idea to steal some nuclear material/waste or decides to destroy a reactor etc.

Source: I work at Sequoyah Nuclear plant 9:00 those windows are “annunciators” they will light and alarm to give indication of the given circumstances 9:09 those are known as “recorders”. They give a scaled indication of a given signal picked up from instrumentation. (Pressure, level,flow and temp) I am an instrument mechanic. 18:41 those are radiation monitors. My dad specialized in those specifically. 28:00 that is the spent fuel pit where used fuel is stored for some time until it has decayed enough to be removed. I used to design control panels like that. The ones with alarms is called an enunciator (i think). Those are alarms for critical sensors in the control system.
