As per usual, if you want to be on bleeding edge, go for arch. Else go for fedora with cachy kernel (which is basically what pikaos does :p)

Nice video man! 👍👏 Just wanted to mention, for hardcore linux installers: rEFInd is by far the best multiboot manager. Lets you chose boot from usb, can boot kernels from root partition. I am used to copy linux root partitions to other ssd and boot it with refind without the need for efi partition or grub reinstall. Have it on any machine in my house.

After manual install of arch + tkg-pds + hyprland... I can attest that adding the cachyos repos was the best thing I could've done. After Syu and reboot it was soo smooth and snappy. It also cured some compiling errors I was getting with Makefiles. Debating on adding the cachy kernel but I'm partial to project C. Gonna have to do some benchmarks.

Hi Matt, thanks for your work on the subject^^ . If you have to choose between the Arch Cachy Customized you've build (your previous video) or cachy out of the box which one do you recommand? and why?
@KryaxXАй бұрын
Fedora 41 or CachyOS. I use Cachy but used Fedora for years. Thoughts?
@Xaito5 күн бұрын
If you used both you should know best what's good for you, no? Personally I'm not a fan of Fedora's repository. I couldn't make it work for me without relying on Flatpaks and Flatpaks were annoying due to slow startup time and the occasional permission mismatch. If you're however looking for a Fedora based distro that has gaming optimization, including kernel patches etc. maybe check out Nobara.

It does make sense that it wont let you select 123768 DEs/WMs though, especially since its an OOTB experience. Else you will probably run into some config issues. So it does make sense :D Also I'm pretty sure there is a PR for the Hyprland changes (0.45), it's really just not supposed to be for people that are new to linux overall

I still don't understand the difference in distros.. or why to pick different distros. What I mean is, I've ran KDE in garuda.. and debian.. and cachyOS.. and Nobara.. and Endeavour.. and Spiral.. and Kubuntu.. etc. and basically: it's all the same. KDE is KDE; so why should I choose a different distro to run it? This is the question that I still have trouble answering. I don't know which distro to choose because they are all the same (practically). The terminals and file managers might be a little different-- but who really cares about that.... And even choosing a DE; So many of them are the same; either a KDE/windows wannabe.. or a gnome/MacOS wannabe; slight changes here and there, but not really anything meaningful. I mean, at least LXqt and LXde and xfce are light weight... so that's something useful.. But like cosmic, bungie, cinnamon, etc.. Are all just trying to be windows again IMO-- which KDE already does better. at least Gnome is unique. Idk.. Linux just has so many layers of complexity that don't need to be there at all. lol. There are so many projects that are all doing the same things in parallel and just giving them different names. It makes choosing so much harder, since there is very little difference across so many things.
@Mattscreative2 ай бұрын
it's not about the DE is about the kernel and if the distro handles everything for you
@calholli2 ай бұрын
@@Mattscreative yeah.. that's kinda my point. I've never really been able to find any differences in the kernel from one distro to another, etc. I'm sure there are specific technical differences, but in everyday use.. it's kinda all the same. I just wish reviewers could zero in on the specific things that are actually distinctive from one distro to another/ aside from the DE... Which I understand is hard to do
