If I had been Katy Perry, I would've made this album accoustic, full of guitars and batteries and bass. I would've taken a personal route. The cover would've been me, dressed as a Little Red Hood hippie woman, walking in the woods of, I don't know, the Rocky Mountains. Maybe it wouldn't have been as commercially successful, but I would've gone back to my roots. I maybe would've named the album "What We Tell Ourselves When We Grow Old". A kind of reflective album on my Katy Perry career and how that has affected my Katy Perry life. The concept sounds a bit trite, but at least I would've had a clean consciousness and people would say I tried or would give me ideally a Lana del Rey, Lorde treatment.

The thing is, every artist is going to have a "flop era" at some point in their career because a natural decline in relevancy or quality is inevitable. No one is immune from that. Katy Perry, however, has demonstrated that sometimes a "flop era" can actually last for several albums and end up alienating even the most die hard fans in the process... Which is really sad because she used to make really, really good pop music.

@@curryfishheadenjoyer I have this theory that PRISM was only successful due to the controversy between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Roar might have not been as successful as it was if Lady Gaga's "Applause" hadn't been released in the same week. The media at the time were getting tired of Gaga and so, would do ANYTHING to put Gaga down. And what not a better way than pitting the arguably two biggest popstars of the early 2010s next to each other. This would mean a majority of people would favour Roar so as to block Applause from No.1. After Roars success, she released another single, Dark Horse ft. Juicy J which was a pop/rap infused song, again drawing different demographics to Katy's audience, making it a hit. Anyway, that's MY personal theory doesn't mean it is true.
@Williams-xu2ue4 ай бұрын
For her flop eras, well Katy shows no sign of music maturity. She's trying to replica her former success instead of evolving. She is still stuck in 2010, hence her three flops, all being a bigger flop than the former. Unlike her peers, e.g. Gaga, she went straight to traditional ways, from singing a jazz album with Tony Bennett to winning a Golden globe for her acting role in AHS Hotel. Gaga from this proved her maturity as an artist, leading her to be the legend that she is today (thanks to her acting role in ASIB and her hit song Shallow, which is the most awarded song of all time. The big win for Gaga is when she won an Oscar for her song Shallow. I believe from that, she automatically gained prestige and respect from the industry. That's why Gaga us still relevant. She, unlike others, actually evolved instead of trying to replicate her former successful eras/albums. That's why she was able to bounce back as a legend and not back to square one. That is what Katy Perry is missing. That's why Katy Perry is flopping.

About Katy Perry I will say one thing, and that’s that gay people can often enjoy things that weren’t initially made for us. I know this from my own experience and from my friends. Things like Monster High, Barbie, and even early 2000s Katy Perry weren’t initially trying to appeal to the LGBT crowd but those things still have a large queer fan base because they just happened to be something we enjoyed. I think instead of trying to force this queer icon image Katy should just really be herself because she was and is already iconic. I will always love her because I grew up on her music even if right now she’s in a flop era. I think she can get back to being a big star we just are all craving authenticity

It doesn't work because it's obvious she doesn't actually care about the community. She's far from homophobic, but she only hyperfixates on queer people (gay men, to be exact) because she gets brownie points for it. A much less known but also a much better executed attempt at a song made "for the gays" by a straight woman is Solar's Colors. It's not even about having actual queer people in the mv or that her and her group have been performing with drag queens for years now, but you can tell when someone got genuinely inspired by the community and wanted to create something for them and who just hopes their song goes viral because of a drag race lipsync.

I'm struggling to see WHERE exactly is she pushing a "gay icon" image??? She's never claimed to be one or "branded" herself as one. She IS herself. What in WOMAN's World had u think "oh she's making this for the gays"?
@v_doll5 ай бұрын
@@aymancatboy4987 She constantly inserts herself into queer spaces and tries to cater to gay men with all her might. She's like the girls who go on and on about wanting a gay man as a bestie because they're just such big allies and they want to have someone to talk about make up with.
@aymancatboy49875 ай бұрын
@v_doll She has donated to and advocated for LGBTQ organizations her whole career, actually she has this year. If "inserting herself in gay spaces" means partying at a gay bar than basically any straight person whi goes there is "catering". Most of her fans are queer. She doesn't make music for gay ppl she simply makes pop music and the gays like it. So this narrative u're pushing is absolutely baseless

I think an important thing about the Control verse is that it was meant as kind of a challenge to the rappers to prove they can do better than him, and like every other rapper named in the verse was kinda honored Kendrick included them. EXCEPT Drake, I genuinely think if he’d had a more reasonable response to it we wouldn’t be where we are now I recommend FD Signifier’s new video on the situation for both a really thorough deep dive and also putting it in context of hip hop history in general, it’s great

If y'all want the best, most in-depth breakdown of the Kendrick vs Drake situation, with cultural context dating all the way back to the birth of hip-hop, you need to go watch the video F.D Signifier just dropped. It's three and a half hours long, I watched it over the course of two days, and it's so good. It's so deeply informative, especially to people outside of the culture, and/or to the younger generation who wasn't around for all of it (both include me, lol). All of his videos are fantastic tbh, he's one of my go to video essayists period, and especially for staying informed on black culture and issues so I can be a better ally :) I can't recommend his channel enough.

The thing is about Woman's world, is that if it was a good song, no one would care that Dr Luke produced it, it's the fact that its garbage that people lament that he's worked on it.
@roxanne_5 ай бұрын
It’s not just about how to song sounds, it’s supposed to be Katy’s white girl feminist anthem for women and the gays. It’s the whole song’s existence that is bad due to the lack of authenticity and knowledge of a topic that Katy wants to discuss cleanly to the mainstream. The fact that Dr.Luke worked on it with her helps people to drag her to the trenches even further.
@jamalmalik36174 ай бұрын
