This video could obviously be far more in depth, but others have done that, and have done it well. I prefer to give shorter explanations for those that just want a basic idea of who a character is.

Knights of the Nine, baby! Talos was part of it, and he interacts with the player. Also, it's his blood that is given to Martin as the "blood of a god" to open the portal to Paradise. So... Talos FTW!

I love the degree to which the elder scrolls games leave history up to interpretation, no one can record anything and the further back something goes obviously the more contention surrounds it even if people were trying to document it thoroughly. It's a weird little piece of realism that I just love about the setting, and I love the possibilities it opens as I'm sure it was intended.

True, it's like real life, much of History is lost, embellished, or straight up fabricated to match agendas or make stigma, and Elder Scrolls knows this

Talos was a Nord/Atmoran: Breton Names are usually based on French or English names while the names of Nords are based on our norse countries being Sweden, Norway Etc. Also a Nord's Surname is often earned unless they are part of a clan. The Name Hjalti is very Nordic sounding but the "Early beard" is what convinces me of his Nordic heritage.
@dutchpatriot17
@dutchpatriot17 6 жыл бұрын
His father could have been a Nord, explaining his name. Or his Breton parents just picked a Nord name, Lucien Lachance is as Breton as it gets, but he's an Imperial. Given that Talos is born in Alcaire, him being a Nord makes no sense. And since Atmora was frozen over an era before he was born, that even less so.

The Thu'um is hardly unique to the Nords. They have the oldest tradition with it aside from the dragons obviously, but a dragonborn can technically be of any race. Dragonborns have occurred with no blood relation to previous carriers of the dragon blood, and nobody knows how these anomalously occurring dragonborns come about. Just a small discrepancy, but I felt it necessary to point out.
@sarcasticsatan7335

Tiber Septim is an oversoul of the shezzarines, Wulfharth the Underking, Zurin Arctus, and Hjalt Early-Beard. And the Divine being Talos is an oversoul of all shezzarines that have appeared throughout history, Wulfharth being the final piece of the puzzle, when he used the Totem of Tiber Septim to reunite himself with his heart earning him the death he so longed for. And some people say that because of this Talos actually didn't become a god until the warp in the west occured which was late in the third era.
@professor_dova

Talos of Atmora was Wulfharth using the mantel of Talos. Tiber Septim was Hjalti Early-beard a Breton conqueror who took up the mantel of Talos and the man who worked miracles as Talos Stormcrown was really a battle mage named Zurin Arctus. When Wulfharth, Arctus, and Hjalti died their spirits combined and rose as Talos the God.

Talos could have been culturally Nord through his father, while his mother could have been a Breton from Alicaire, thus explaining why he and his friend that ghost from Old Hroldan mentioned learning from the sword masters of Alicaire. Generally speaking, children of mixed marriages in the Elder Scrolls come out racially like the mother while retaining features from their father's people. Which is why the Bretons look like humans who have heavy elvish features due to relations between Aylieds Lords & Nedic/Nordic women.

Atmora got fucked up way before Hjalti's time. The guy that came from Atmora is Wulfhart, and his and Zurin Arctus' stories get often misused as miracles performed by Tiber Septim. It is theorized that the souls of Wulfhart, Tiber and Zurin combined and formed an Oversoul, a combination of the 3 beings, and that they took the mantle of Lorkhan

The earliest battle record of Talos was the taking of "Old Hroldan" in the hold of Reach in Western Skyrim. In ESV: Skyrim, the Last Dragonborn can go to "Old Hroldan" and sleep in a bed purported to be the one on which Tiber Septim slept. Upon doing so, he is met by a ghost who calls the Last Dragonborn by the name 'Hjalti' and calls him his sword brother, and reminds him of their training with the sword masters of 'Alcaire' (A place in High Rock). This seems to confirm the "Heresy" view of Tiber Septim. However, it does not mean he was a Breton. Keeping the incident of Old Hroldan's Ghost, we can make following assertions: 1. Talos was called 'Hjalti' by the closest to him, so this is likely his birth-name. 2. Since 'Hjalti' is a very Nordic name, and since the ghost was dressed in a Nordic Armor, Talos was most probably a Nord. 3. He COULD have been born in High Rock to Nordic parents. That won't make him Breton, but allow him to train with the Sword Masters of Alcaire in High Rock. 4. The Reach is on the border of Skyrim and High Rock. Even in 4E200, The Reach is a part of Skyrim with a lot of Forsworn Rebel Population of Bretonic stock. Since the area itself is a melting Pot of Nordic and Bretonic influences, so could be Hjalti/Talos. It is perfectly possible that Hjalti, a Nord from High Rock, went east to Skyrim, met Grey Beards and became Talos and Ysmir. 5. He was called Ysmir by the Grey Beards of High Hrothgar, and so was the Last Dragonborn. This is probably the reason why the Ghost at Old Hroldan called the Last Dragon Born as 'Hjalti'.

I believe that neither he or the tribunal managed to actually reach chim, only at most an understanding of it. He became an et'ada in the same way that the tribunal did through the mantella, however while he mantled lorkhan and took a place among the aedra, the tribunal didn't mantle an existing et'ada and therefore they died outright like any other mortal. I'd be happy to be corrected but from what I know of the lore as of this moment my theory works.

King Cuhlecain of Bruma and Falkreath convinced a mercenary warrior named Hjalti to lead a campaign against the Reachmen of Markarth, Sancre Tor Fortress and The Colovian Kingdoms. They were all defeated by Hjalti who was acclaimed by his soldiers as Talos Stormcrown. Talos stated to form his own army and many that once were loyal to Cuhlecain now wanted to fight for Talos. King Cuhlecain convinced everyone in the Imperial City (held by an old Reman Legion, the last of the Reman Dynasty and also the battlemages). He convinced everyone in Niben Bay that he would’ve been a great emperor and he had a great army and General Talos. People from those areas wanted to fight for Cuhlecain. Talos and Cuhlecain clash in battle for the Imperial City. Talos kills Cuhlecain in single combat and proclaims himself Emperor of Cyrodiil and Skyrim. That’s what happened.

A couple of lore points you got a bit wrong there. Or rather you should have expanded upon, Talos has two origins that are both actually true. because Talos is not his real name. The story about him coming from atmora is about Ysmir Wulfhart and the other one about him being a kings general, was Hjalti Early beard. The arcturian heresy explains rather neatly what happened to them when they both ascended, but what basically happened is that them mantling the same being (lorkhan) caused them to meld together, because the universe and all of time could no longer see the difference between them and the new entity that was then created. there is also NO DOUBT that talos ascended, you left that part a bit vague as to allude there being some debate over that area in terms of canon, there is not. He is physically present as a divine aspect in morrowind, which also has his peers, Mara and Zenithar making their appearance, physically in the form of NPC's randomly stumbled across the land of Vvardenfell, each gifts the nerevarine with a blessed artifact for completing a task of a sort. Talos, in his guise called "wulf" (wulf-hart), gives you a coin which increases your luck. All this in game evidence points to the definite conclusion that the theory of mantling and combining with the spirit of wulfhart, a confirmed shezzarine or a reincarnation of lorkhan's soul, is the true story of his rise to divinity.

@159tony
@159tony 6 жыл бұрын
Wrong because the mythic does not operate like that, Wulfhart was the soul of Lorkhan. Ysmir is the hero god of man, Wulfhart was Ysmir before. and Hjalti was one as well. these things combined ALONG with Tiber Septim achieving CHIM made the ascension his own.
@dutchpatriot17
@dutchpatriot17 6 жыл бұрын
Talos isn't an oversoul though. And Septim's CHIM is unconfirmed. If Talos ascended, he did not mantle Lorkhan. Simple as that. The two gods can't coexist, so Talos didn't mantle anything.

The Empire still worships Talos and hates the Thalmor more than anyone. Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak is a payed Thalmor puppet to cause problems in Skyrim in order to weak the province. If you want you can fight for this puppet but you’re not a true son of Talos.

Talos was a man, beyond that it'd be very hard to guess his "race" since different branches of "men" in Tamriel look very much alike other than redguards. Nords are just Atmorans that migrated to Skyrim, imperials are just nords that migrated further south to Cyrodiil and even Bretons, which are technically elf-man hybrids, have little to no elven physical traits. You could say nords/atmorans are physically taller and sturdier than the rest but then a smaller nord could easily be mistaken for an imperial and a larger imperial for a nord.
