Exploring Indigenous INNOVATION Exhibit at the Ontario Science Center
Join me as we explore the Indigenous Ingenuity exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre, which celebrates the exceptional achievements of Indigenous people in areas such as astronomy, engineering, medicine, and more.
As I delve deeper into the exhibit, we highlight the fascinating stories of Indigenous inventors and innovators, and their deep understanding of the natural world. We also learn about the role of traditional knowledge in shaping modern scientific research and development, and the importance of recognizing and preserving Indigenous intellectual property.
So come along with us on this exciting journey of discovery, and let's celebrate the incredible achievements and contributions of Indigenous people to science and technology.

WOW - Looks like an awesome exhibit! I'm always excited to see how people are aligning Traditional Knowledge with Western Science. The two knowledge systems truly do support each other, but are their own, to be trusted and treated as such with respect.

Our family was just there today! We spent all our time in the Indigenous Section. The children absolutely loved the Interactive parts. My 6 year old great nephew loved showing me how to use a bow and arrow for hunting, and his next favourite was showing me how to fish for salmon. It's an amazing display and I would highly recommend it to all - adults and children alike!

Wow, how very exciting this experience of using your visual, audible, and tactial. I love how the exhibits flow into the different seasons . This encourages cooperation in putting puzzles and blocks together in planning on how they should go. The Winter display had a missing indigenous woman who was abducted.

What's the most fascinating thing you've learned about Indigenous innovation at the Ontario Science Centre's exhibit?

WOW Mallory, thank you for sharing this fascinating and innovative exhibit with us. I think my fav part of your tour was the animal tracking, the game that never ends, smile, followed closely by the igloo exhibit. Since I was a kid back home, I've always wanted to build one of them! I hear they are actually quite warm inside. Could this be true? And the snowshoes sure brought back some fond memories. Our town use to have snowshoe races and we also would play snowshoe softball. LOL. I really liked how it was set up to represent the medicine wheel that's pretty clever. A perfect touch at the end, letting you go back and catch the exhibits you may have missed. Sorry this is long winded, just too exciting, wish I could have been there. Thanks again my friend. So mote it be.

Hey @@lady_id.dixiet_dixt! I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it. The animal tracking game and igloo exhibit were some of my favorites too, and yes, igloos can actually be quite warm inside!😁It sounds like you have some great memories from your town as well. It sure is clever how they incorporated the Medicine Wheel to the exhibit! Thank you for your support and enthusiasm, it means a lot, friend! 🧡🧡🧡

Thanks Mallory for sharing your visit, I'm going to go back and look for the explanation you give in your programs on the wheel of health. However, this was already done by Spain 5 centuries ago, but, as the saying goes: better late than never. I tell you the original facts of the Hispanic family, so that you know what these English and French genocidals did with you these 5 centuries. Because the Hispanic world is mostly mestizo and because it has been underdeveloped -among other Anglo-Saxon countries- Canada. 1 -in 1531 the Spanish Vasco de Quiroga created the Pueblo Hospitals. -Where the two medicines were practiced: European medicine and Indian medicine. However, the Indian doctors trained in the universities of Mexico and the rest of HispanoAmérica -23 - had already begun to introduce their knowledge into universal medicine through their treatises on the plants of America. The Libellus de medicinalibus indorum herbis (Book on the medicinal herbs of indigenous peoples),1 also known as the De la Cruz-Badiano Codex, Badiano Codex or Barberini Codex, is the first treatise that describes the curative properties of the American plants used by the mexicas This book was the work of the indigenous doctor Martín de la Cruz, originally from Santiago Tlatelolco and associated with the Colegio de la Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco, who dictated various remedies against diseases and which was possibly originally recorded in Nahuatl and which, later, the Xochimilca Juan Badiano , a student at the Colegio de la Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco, would translate into Latin.2 This work was completed on July 22, 1553. that is to say, all the indigenous knowledge is taken to the University and there, together with the European Arab Jewish knowledge,... all the students learned it = Indians, Spanish, Filipinos, blacks... science is universal, for everyone . In 1556 the black Juan Latino was appointed professor at the University of Granada, Spain and married a white Spanish woman 2-Spain makes the grammars of all the Indian languages before those of English, French and German were made; for example the first book published in America is a Nahuatl grammar in 1531

What a fun way to explore Indigenous teachings! I found it interesting that your guide made the corollary to the scientific method (observation, hypothesis, experiment, result, document) in terms of observing nature, experiments and communicating the results in stories.

It sure is! I had a blast touring the Indigenous Ingenuity exhibit. And yes, I found it fascinating how the scientific method can also be applied to observing nature and sharing stories to communicate results. It's a great example of the interconnectedness of different ways of understanding the world. 💕

Every time I take the little quiz, the page goes blank after I complete my answers and I never receive my prayer in my email or spam folder. Please help. I don’t know what to say. I will purchase a personalized smudging prayer. Thank you Carolyn
