Exploring Java, Indonesia: 4 Cities in 7 Days! From Jakarta To MALANG!

We made it to Indonesia! Our second country on our one year travel.
If you are planning your initerary for Indonesia, you should put Java on your list. This is the place where you can still see and hear the traditional and authentic Indonesia.
If you are planning your trip to Indonenesia, Java, keep in mind that:
1. Jakarta is a huge city and it can take you upto 4 hours to travel from the north part to the southpart due to the trafficjams all day. In the 2 days we were in Jakarta we spent 6 hours stuck in trafficjams. Jakarta is not a must-see city for tourists. I can easily advise to skip this city.
2. Bandung is a good place to feel end see the real Indonesian culture. Bandung is a favorite place to visit in the weekends for people out of Jakarta. Bandung is a nice place to visit and there is a lot of stuff to do in and around it. Try to avoid the weekend because also this city will be filled with traffic. On the weekdays it's already much better.
3. Surakarta is the place to be if you want to experience 100% of the authentic Indonesian culture. There are a lot of historical buildings, very nice markets, a palace and good food! Be aware that for some western tourists you might experience a so called "culture shock". Don't expect anything and all will be good!
4. Malang is the place to visit now before it will be discoverd. The city already offers good places to visit as a tourist. The colored city. the nightmarket (pasar malam) one of the many other daily markets. Malang is probably also your stop before visiting the Bromo vulcano.

We landed in Jakarta and spend some time with the family first. Then we headed to Bandung, there we step into a crater of a vulcano.
We continued to Surakarta, also called Solo. There we had a little stop at the palace (kraton of solo), ate some soto and played some pool.
We took the train to Malang where we visite the colored city. This used to be slum area, but after a lot of paint, it became a tourist attraction.
It took us 7 days to explore these 4 cities. The distances are quite long and we were happy that we could do it in 7 days.
