Just a quick correction-Kerala isn’t a Christian-majority state. Hindus make up about 54%, Muslims 27%, and Christians only 18%. Christianity here dates back to at the least 3rd century, and Muslims trace their roots to Arab traders from the 7th century. Also, it’s not right to call any Indian state Hindu, Christian, or anything else-India a secular, socialist, democratic republic. Malayalees are deeply religious but still very secular when it comes to coexisting with different faiths. However, instead of calling kerala "a christian state", you could call it a "communist state" because world's first democratically elected communist government was formed in Kerala in 1957. Since then Kerala has only been ruled by either Communists or socialists, the current government being a communist one, despite being a religious state.

@@frozenwaters-r4m Oh my word, I am so sorry for getting that so wrong! Thank you so much for the correction, and for sharing this fascinating information. Being a Christian i would say Kerala is not a Christian state but Christianity plays an integral part of Kerala's Social, Economical, Educational,Health and even politics. But you can say Kerala is a birth place of Christianity. Major Christians believe St. Thomas came to India in 53 AD and converted jewish people and some of the hindu communities in Kerala. Most of the Kerala Christian known as St. Thomas Christian they are in both Catholic and non Catholic❤

It is become a Christian and Muslim Communist State rather than Hindu state, you can't call it that Hinduism is regarded as Thirdclass religion in Kerala only used for Hindus ad Tourism where no facilities has provided for Hindus than christain Churches, Shabaimala has some of the worst temple management systems in the Entire country even though millions of ppl visit every year. they're milikng money from Hindus and giving them to Churches.

@jamesjose848 how do you think Temples were constructed with gov money? Gov doesn't spend any money on any temples instead they take taxes on temple revenue and loot the money donated by ppl unlike Churches and Mosques tell that to someone else, why do you think ppl want to Free temple's from government, exactly where did they spent tht amount of money hve you ever been to Shabarimala it's one of the worst maintained temples I ever visited, do don't even get proper drinking water there Andi it's visited by 10's of lakhs of ppl still no proper security rather than allowing ppl to visit temple they sent them away last year, they're just looting temples and Giving to Churches not the other way around, just because ppl converted and doesn't go to temples in your state anymore doesn't mean gov spending money on them, a temlpe like tirupathi generates half a billion dollars every year you think it needs money from gov to run, you see the what happened with Laddu scam when Crypto Converted Ricebag Christians run the State and temples they opt for cheaper options tht leds important animal fat for prasadam.

Hello Mandy & Lee. A story: - I was in Hikkaduwa in 1983 and there were a series of bomb attacks in Colombo and elsewhere. I thought I ought to advise my parents that I was OK. A letter (remember them?) would take too long. To make a phone call I had to get the train to Colombo. Tuk to the General Post Office. Fill in a telephone request form. Wait for (seemingly) hours until informed that my call was being connected. Spoke for 3 minutes to my Dad who was unaware of the news from SL! Back I went to Hikkaduwa - a full day to make an unnecessary phone call! How things have changed. Back then I had a 'Rough Guide'. Now I'm back in SL using your wonderfully useful tips. Thank you so much for all the effort you put in to making these videos.

Kerala is a secular state in india.. but christainity is obviously a reason why kerala is no. 1 in literacy rate and health care in india. Because christain missionaries build a lot of schools and hospitals in kerala. For example, long ago in my home town near kochi, children of upper caste hindhus are allowed to go to a school in that area, so christain missionaries build a another school for children of lower caste hindhus.. so it helped to improve socio economic status of all people irrespective of their caste

Thank you so much for the correction. Apologies for any offence caused ... ever since Lee & I went to Kerala in 1996, after meeting in Nepal, I'd mistakenly thought that Kerala was a Christian state, so it's good to finally know the actual demographic.
