We once went to a elite supermarket in our capital city. Prices for some items were high, but others were slightly higher than regular. Then I saw freshly made baguette for 50 rubles. I brought it and on checkout turns out it wasn’t the price of baguette. It was the price of 100 grams of baguette… so I ended up paying 300 rubles for a bread. Needles to say this price is insane for a bread lmao. It was fresh and tasty but nothing extraordinary.

I think Gelson’s Grocery Market is more exclusive in Los Angeles County. Bristol Farms is only like low-key in that exclusive central location to everything. Idk what to call that area, but BF is always packed and floral bouquets are popular. Erewon has a lot more locations than by koreatown-larchmont. Studio City has one, but I haven’t been there. It's crazy because I live in Ventura, CA which is an hour on a good traffic day, away from LA and even here the prices at the Ralphs and Vons vs The Walmart next door to them is actually crazy. For example, at Walmart, the LARGE bottle of Kikkoman soy sauce is $12, but just next door at Ralphs the small bottle is $10. Nesquick is literally $10 at Ralphs and so is the Earth Balance butter. Like, even next door the price at a Ralphs is double that to a Walmart. The only issue is we have TINY Walmarts in CA compared to all other states, especially in my town. The Walmart cannot serve how many people live here and NEED to buy things there because our rent has literally doubled in the past 4 years. Not only are a lot of things out of stock, but so many things do not get ordered just because the size of our store being so small. It's actually really sad watching this because the prices at the "rich people store" are literally just the regular prices at regular stores where I am. For all east coasters, Ralphs is basically Kroger. Also to add, usually the quality if items is also better at a Ralphs/Vons VS Walmart because here places like Walmart often are really dirty, the workers usually are passing through to other jobs quickly so they don't really care as much when putting items away. You will end up with stale cereal because they popped the bag unpacking it improperly and haphazardly. A lot of the time the Walmarts here don't keep their fridges and freezers working properly so you will get freezer burnt or items that obviously sat warm for a while before being re-refrigerated. I even got womens sanitary pads from there that had been cut perfectly with a box cutter so that every pad was sliced and I couldn't even use them because, not sanitary. When I lived on the East Coast we had a lot larger, nicer, well kept walmarts so I never really realized how much of a luxury having access to a store with reasonable prices that isn't a mess and actually has stock is. It just seems like California has so many little things that push people out of areas, beyond just rent being expensive. They really don't want poorer or lower middle class people living in some towns literally at all and it's clear as day by just the inability to find reasonably priced goods and services that are not hard to find in other areas.

Jeni’s is from Ohio so I didn’t know it was sold in Cali that’s cool. It’s a little more expensive than other ice cream but they have delicious but fun flavors like they had a Texas sheet cake that was sooo good and they did an ice cream collab with Tyler the Creator once it’s was a mint ice cream with white chocolate flecks.
