Hello City Walks. I'm planning a move to MT since my work was made remote due to COVID. I don't use your videos for treadmill walking, but they are an excellent way to get a feel for what a lot of the towns are like. I think I like the vibe of Whitefish or Columbia Falls, but will probably live somewhere like Helena/Missoula/Bozeman and rent for a while first. Going to fly out and spend a week or so checking these places out. Anyway thanks for the videos, they've been really helpful to me (especially all the local/insider facts).
@CityWalks4 жыл бұрын
So glad these could be of use. You might check out the channel @RadiantWanderings. She's out of Kalispell area and has some moving guides, things to consider, etc. Winter is a good time to visit to make sure this is a good match. It usually lasts 6-7 months.Bozeman is the fastest growing town in the Rockies right now with CA level housing prices so you might give some extra weight to the other areas. All the best. -H
@Shady973424 жыл бұрын
@@CityWalks I''ve checked out a few of her videos as well. They're also very helpful. I'm constrained in my search by needing an enclosed garage (A hobby of mine is tinkering with my car). I haven't found apartments with rentable garages outside of Helena/Missoula/Bozeman. I hope eventually I can afford a small home around Whitefish/C-Falls/Kalispell before the prices get outrageous there too. I'm aware of those damn Californians! I'm from the other coast. Thanks again, cheers.

Today is Saturday the 17th, yesterday we had a dusting of snow, this morning my little deck had three inches of wet snow on it!! At 78, this is my most unfavorite time of year, for me snow is beautiful to look out my window to see, especially if the sun is shining off it!! Lots of time it doesn't stay long, the fierce winds blows it away!! Now, I'd suggest this guy should bone up on Livingston information before he narrates his walk!! My family came here in 1953, I turned eleven three weeks later, Sax and Fryer was there!! Yes, the Mint serves food, because of our county, Park, rising Covid-19 cases, they are closed again, the young owners live next door. My daughter moved here a year ago and lives in the building on Park and Main, when he turns to the right on Main, you see the front of the building, it used to be a hotel, I remember when it was built. Years ago the town decided not to tear down our old buildings, but to restore them, it looks pretty much like it did when we moved here from Boise, my dad brought a sawmill with him. There will soon be two different film crews working on movies here, the choice to keep our old buildings draws film crews. Livingston was a full out working railroad with huge shops where trains were switched, then the railroad moved out, it is still used to hook up helpers to trains going over the Bozeman pass!! (the history of Livingston is on KZbin) We have fish, but all spring and summer I have had whitetail and mule deer in my yard, every year they clean up my apples. When my folks were alive they had a bull moose camp out in their yard for three days, they had a cow moose come with her twins, always deer, rabbits, and squirrels, I didn't know it was against the law to feed them, my dad was already feeding them all he raised a huge garden and shared with them, I was taking him to the feed store he must have spent a fortune over the years feeding all his animals!! We used to buy huge bags of corn to feed all the ducks on the Lagoon in the winter!! .We sometimes have black bears in the outskirts of town!! (like this man said part was closed off because of the bears) Robert Osborne's portraits of old sheepherders and old native American men are so brilliant, he captures every line in their weather worn faces!! Wilcoxins was also here when we first came in 1953, they had a soda fountain that was around the corner of the building Sax and Fryer is on, on Main, John Fryer is suffering from Dementia. I was gone for 47 years, came back in 2010, found both of my parents had Dementia, now passed. It was strange to see the town after the railroad shops were gone and all the people with them, the town was always bustling, I could always find someone to go to Wilcoxin's with for a treat. Now most all the stores I knew are gone, replaced by eateries, book stores, breweries and young progressives. It reminds me of recycling, out with the old, in with the new!! When he crosses Geyser, the brown building on the left houses our news paper, The Livingston Enterprise. The swimming pool was also here when we came, my siblings and I spent many a hot summer day there with our friends. I have wondered what the city did with all the ducks, there were barely any this season on the Lagoon, last year there were too many, lots of geese though!!! If I am not mistaken Ash trees have white bark, these trees are not ash.. These trees in the park are not cherry trees, either, but I don't know the names of them, they are loaded with those messy orange berries. Sacagawea Park is so beautiful, he walked by the beautiful bronze statue of Sacagawea, baby on her back on her horse, I wish he had shown it, and the beautiful spot it is in!! The Yellowstone River is so beautiful, my parents lived on the other end of town, two blocks from the river, we'd have someone take us five miles up river, float down on innertubes, get out and walk over to their house!! My dad had a MacKensie river boat he loved to float down and fish. In early on, Livingston hosted a huge fishing competition for the largest trout a fisherman caught, I don't know why they quit, it was a huge money maker for the city. When this man began his walk there was Dan Bailey Fly Sop, in my day the women would sit in the front windows, you could watch them tie flies, they were big in participating in the fishing competition. Somebody needs to buy it and restore it to what it was!! In the opposite direction from where he is by the skate park, on the banks of the Yellowstone is a really nice big off leash dog park and access ramp for boaters. I take my little Malti-Poo there often, because I don't have a fence and she likes to run!! Tony Hawke and his wife were vacationing here. Actually Covid-19 cases in Park Country are spiking mostly from family gatherings. We usually have free Thanksgiving and Christmas community dinners, so sad, not this year!! I had a bad dream the other night, I!! I am glad he swung back to the bronze of Sacagawea, but why not a close up!! Well, this is my version of the walk, Livingston is beautiful, my favorite season is spring, the varying shades of green are breathtaking, this man loves trees as much as I do!! The one thing I hate about Livingston are the winds, when I moved back here in 2010 and bought my house, I bought cute door mats for my front and back doors, I have no idea if they ended up in Bozeman or Billings, or on someone's roof!! Many people who come here on vacation move here, come visit!!

funny when you talk about strong wind and you walk past a sign "Katabatic Brewery"? The wind in Livingston has at one times literally blew a train off the tracks!
@CityWalks6 ай бұрын
I didn’t know about the train but it doesn’t surprise me. I’m pretty sure the brewery is named with the wind in mind. Their motto is “ a drinky town with a windy problem”
