Stumbled across your lovely video. Thanks for mentioned the card game, chap ji ki 😂. Couldn’t remember the name since the last time we played it like forever ago. Hope you get a chance to visit my hometown Kuching. Aim for end Jul/early Aug for the yearly food festival.

Oh wow you had played the game before? I had seen the game being played in Little Nyonya drama. I was indeed intending to visit Kuching! What are your recommended places?

@ yes we played chap ji ki with the old timers back in the days. Kuching recommendation, well depending how many days you plan to be in Kuching. For a basic start, do the local breakfast (Sarawak laksa, kolo mee, kolo mee red using char siew oil, teh c peng 3 layer drinks), escape the midday heat by exploring Borneo Cultures Museum, then sample kek lapis at kek lapis shops at Main Bazaar, walk around old Carpenter Street. Go to Waterfront, take the sampan across the river to check out more kek lapis from the cake shops/houses there. Take sampan back to waterfront, short walk to Topspot food court for seafood, midin sambal veggie etc. Walk off the fullness by heading back to Waterfront until you reach the Darul Hana Bridge, be there before 8.30pm for light/fountain show. After that you can walk to the Old Court House, there's a cafe that I like called Commons, you can end your evening with coffee and cake. You can always book a Grab to go back to your accommodation. That should cover for whole day basically though more places to go as well as makan. :)

@@alvinaho77 wow thanks for your recommendation! sure wish to eat kolo mee and go to Old Carpenter Street. If I am there for 2 days, are there other places to go for 2nd day?

@ Hmm 2 days are definitely too short unless if it's purely makan+chillax trip & probably less rushing.. Let's assume you're staying at town area, near Main Bazaar/Old Carpenter Street/Padungan along Carpenter Street as they do open early, maybe sign up for Sarawak Cultural Village morning tour (transport included), back from tour for late lunch at Lau Ya Keng @ Carpenter Street; ideally try Kuching crispy tomato mee. Use the time to buy food souvenirs kek lapis, food paste at Main Bazaar shoplots (I'd normally buy whenever I'm back visiting my fam in Kuching: Haji Manan Sarawak laksa paste, Pansuh serbaguna food paste, bario rice though most can be found in supermarkets). There's also another food paste kacangma but it's not to my liking. Kek lapis wise, I tend to buy from Mama Su kek lapis shop. They all on the shoplots on Main Bazaar facing Waterfront. Final dinner perhaps late dinner has to be at Lepau, it's a Sarawakian ethnic restaurant but must make reservation. Order purple bario rice, bamboo chicken, cangkuk manis with pumpkin and egg and midin belacan. If adventurous, order umai. Let say if you skip the tour, then you can have the same meals (early breakfast, early lunch and souvenir shopping suggested but add tea time snacking at Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre. Order kongpia/gompia with original pork, maybe add-on rojak at Rihga stall #7, if with big group can also sample belacan beehoon or sotong kangkung but I forgot the stall #. But order your drinks coconut water mix with sugarcane from stall #1 or #2 - an absolute thirst quencher. I think this should wrap up your trip but mainly covering that area. Next time can come back to Kuching to do other activities and focus on other areas. Describing all of these are making me hungry and I'm 2.5 weeks away for my yearly fam visit. Lol
