In the final installment of my deep dive into Mutable Instruments Braids I explore some of the more experimental synth engines deeper down the list. There are some really fun jams in this one including a traditional Japanese style jam which is the first time I've done that in modular (i think!).

Harmonic mode through tons of effects is amazing! Funnily enough, for those of us that use software, there's actually a polyphonic Braids available now for VCV. It's not in the library but there's a build on the community forum. Haven't tried it yet, should be mind blowing! You can also modulate the mode polyphonically, imagine that 😮

I think for me among the many important things to be said for Mutable's erm Instruments, are just those two words 'sweet spot'. It was through play on Plaits mainly (then Braids in VCV) that I learned that term is not solely the province of analog devices or digital things through analog filters and effects. Great now I get to 'lose' hours with nothing more than a Plaits and Peaks! Great video again Ally, always the 'Sweet-spoteer'.

If one was to explain the different goodies of synthesized sound sources, Braids is a pretty good comparison. Too bad, that was not falling on media and into peoples knowledge, when it came out. I am sure, after this in depth dive, the module will be searched again and prices will rise further. Great work, Ally!

Always great videos and jams. Inspiring. I’ve used Softube Modular for a while and, while I’ve got other hardware synths I’m really tempted by some Eurocrack. Your case and module selection looks like a really intelligent and flexible set of choices. Do you share the specs anywhere if someone wanted to build something similar?

That 0:18 tape stop effect is great ! Is that just the sound of braids going trough the k.o. II?

It's the freeze button on the data bender, and then some good musical timing with pressing freeze on data bender right when stopping the beat on ko II and vice versa when starting the beat again.

Had a Braids but sold it and got a Plaits (when u could still get them new ) as much as I like Plaits kinda wish I still had Braids as possibly better ?? Thanks for the video 👍

Great video! Is there a reason why you have Data Bender's left output connected to Beads' left CV input instead of audio in?

Rings's FM mode is parameterized identically to Plaits. I know Rings has a beefier processor than Plaits, which I'd guess is beefier than Braids. Processors are ranked in standard beef units, BTW. Megabeefs. Beefcake.

Thanks man! I sampled a lot of sounds from the drumbrute into the KO2, same with the RD-8. I’m really enjoying having a bigger of variety of sounds and changing kits depending on the jam 😎

I know it has an amp & env(kinda) built in, but is anybody using an external amp and env? I’m having some trouble connecting both and I think it’s the settings in Braids I’m missing. I found the amp on/off but having trouble with the env setting.

I’m using an external amp and envelope in this video. What problem are you experiencing?

@@TheUnperson to use an external amp, I have to turn the amp off. Thus giving a constant sound out. Which is expected. I’m not sure how to turn the env off so I can use an external env. Or is the internal env always on and I just connect an external env on top?

@jodo985 I haven’t actually explored the internal envelope but if you’re getting a constant sound then it sounds like the envelope is bypassed. If you patch braids into your vca and patch your envelope into the vca then that should work? I also never use the trig input ~ maybe that triggers the envelope.

Hi Ally! Just wondering what you use to bring all sounds together. You're not using an output module in the case so I assume you're using a mixer off screen. How?

I have a Zoom L-12 just off-screen which is a mixer and interface with 12 input channels :)
