Watching couple of videos about braids I discovered how low I used this amazing module. Almost 90 percent of its power was not used so I decided to sell it couple of times. now its definitely module that will stay here in the rack. thank you for the video

I did exactly the same actually. I had it many years ago and sold it. When I bought it recently I realised that I had underestimated how good it is!

don't think I ever bothered to watch a video about braids because its was already "obsolete" when I started on my full dive into modular journey in 2020. its pretty impressive compared to plaits. now its going to become more expensive after more people see this video. great video!

I really like the chords in Braid. Especially used with quantizing or not. I started using them with a livelooper and it's great for drones when used with reverb.

This video demonstrates that no matter what digital osc goes through an analog filter, it will sound great! I used to have a braids some years ago, I sold it because I could appreciate only its VA oscillators so I got myself some real analog ones. Great video as usual BTW.
@TheUnperson5 ай бұрын
Cheers man! Yea analogue filters can make any sound source sing!
@Leandrob135 ай бұрын
You should do a series about braids. It still has relevance because of the numerous clones out there. TallDog, Michigan Synth Works, CalSynth, etc. They still offer this module, so it is still alive and well.
@turbochargedfilms5 ай бұрын
Got both a Plaits and Braids in my rig, though the Braids is a DIY 12-bit DAC version. They both have their use for me; Braids for sounds that are more well-established in the larger language of electronic music (supersaws, acid lines, FM, formant sounds) and Plaits for more contemporary sound design. I'm not saying that's only where they shine though, even after having both for a couple years I still keep learning more and more about them! Great video, convincing me to build a couple more of both ;)
@TheUnperson5 ай бұрын
It’s great that the modules are so deep that we can still learn new things about them after all this time. Gonna check out some of the Braids alt firmwares next!

Interesting as always. I love Plaits but have never tried Braids. Sounds great but sadly I have space for it even if I could pick up a used one. Not sure I can justify starting a new eurorack case! Do you just send pitch and gate from the Keystep or have you found the other cv out useful too? Thanks for another great video.
@earlsfield5 ай бұрын
Great video, as always. Braids were a HUGE deal in the first wave of Mutable modules, but I get why people think it is "first Plaits minus one". Btw, just for the clarity sake, that C Saw algo, that is, as you rightfully mentioned is an homage to CS80, is basically a shark fin saw (if you look at the oscilloscope) and it is beautiful for plucky bass that you have patched at the start of the video.
@TheUnperson5 ай бұрын

Nice to see Braids get some love. I only have two osc modules in my system - an OG and a DIY. Don’t have a massive need for an analogue osc as these are so fat. Output on the original seems a little hotter but otherwise they are interchangeable to my ears. Original is more pleasing to look at though :)

I've always liked both, but in VCV there are a couple of Plaits clones which are polyphonic (Pallete and Surge XT Twist) which makes it a lot more versatile. Sadly, there isn't a poly Braids yet, but that would be awesome.

You can make a _potato_ sound good! But no really, I do think Braids sounds beefier than Plaits. It's probably the output stage that has a grittier sound, rather than the algorithms themselves. Never heard anyone do a back-to-back comparison for the common algos, but that was my impression after having owned Plaits for 5 years.
