Buying a set for my wife and I. Luckily there is a growing Horizion community in Southeast Asia where we live.

Hi Bryan… interested to hear more about your experiences on the Horizon in SE Asia. I’m uk based but spend a lot of time in Thailand where I do most of my diving… in Koh Samui currently but off on a liveaboard on the 19th from Ranong to Koh Lipe over 10days. Very interested in the Horizon as my standard kit over here but concerned about support, availability of sofnolime etc… I’m already qualified on Draeger and Submatix SCR and CCR but currently dive open circuit…

@Andrew Eade what I've learned is that sorb is easy to find in major cities, but dive centers may not stock it unless you are with one that is CCR-friendly. So call ahead. If they don't carry any, ask them if you can mail some to them from a shop that does carry some. It's actually common to have sorb couriered to your destination from a nearby city/country ahead of time, especially for LOB. It's just how it works out here. We went with the horizon for many, many reasons, but the biggest was the costs and weight. We're traveling UW photographers who never go below 30m. It's perfect for us. For parts and service, you will be at the mercy of Mares's distribution and service network. I live 10 minutes from the biggest Mares dealers for Southeast Asia, and it will still take me a month to get a Mares product. Still, this is better than almost every other rebreather company has to offer because most do not have any presence in SEA at all.. Another big plus for the Horizon.

We should do a collab and talk about the horizon! I usually talk about CCRs on my channel, but I find the horizon very interesting.

Hi Andy. Can I ask, why the change of opinion on rebreathers (from previously video)?
@UKDiver2 жыл бұрын
Hey Eoin. The Horizon is an SCR not a full CCR. The Horizon doesn’t mix gas on the fly like a CCR does and therefore doesn’t have the risks the doing that inherently brings. It also doesn’t have the benefits that brings either, such as the ability to go to very deep depths. It’s instead fed from a premixed Nitrox mix and because of that is limited to a max of 40m as the minimum mix you can plug into it is 30%. So it’s a completely different beast to be fair and you shouldn’t think of the two as the same. The SCR simply allows you to breath the O2 in the gas in the loop down a few times before dumping it and replacing it with fresh gas. Hope this makes sense. If not, drop me an email and I’ll send you some stuff from Mares that hopefully explains it a bit better than me! 👍😎

Enjoy your new “toy”! I have a 3 questions from the beginning when I saw this unit but never find answer on internet 1. Is it possible to use Shearwater Predix lAI like a backup computer and if yes is it use in OC or CCR mode? 2. Is it possible to change the wing or the way how the entire unit is designed is not possible to use other type? 3. Are you using a specific software for dive plan, like Multideco ? Thank you.

Hey Ovidiu... 1 - You have to use a back up dive computer just in case the whole unit fails. IT should be in OC mode and match the setpoints of your gases as FO2 and your GF that you run. If you do this, they run pretty much identically. 2 - No. The wing on this doesn't use the same 11 inch centres that regular BP and wings do. It has two bolts at the top dead centre, then one lower left and one lower right. It's bespoke and probably deliberately so. 3 - No specific software to plan, so you can use any software you prefer to do the maths for you. There are some specific things you need to remember with this unit when you're plugging the numbers. For example, the FO2 in the cylinder isn't what you use to do the maths, you use the loop FO2 that you set. It's a big part of the theory which is obviously very specific to this unit, so I'm not going to deep into it here, but we we're using iDeco Pro. Hope this answers most of your questions. If you have any more, probably best drop me an email and I'll do my best to answer them! Andy
