I like Bayonne. I currently live in Jersey City but go to Bayonne every week for an exercise class or grocery shopping. It's pretty quiet, the liveliest day is on Saturday. Mostly residential. Unlike Jersey city and Hoboken it doesn't really have a downtown area where people go to bars or clubs. Definitely more of an older, family feel. The houses and parks are beautiful.

Bayonne never really went down because it was pretty much closed blue collar town. My ex girlfriend told me that back in 1970 when her family bought a house there were very few houses for sale because back then people pretty much stayed where they were at. In recent years Bayonne has become more gentrified especially on the east side by the light rail. The area by Avenue A was considered the poorer side of town. This area has been gentrified in part because of the light rail, attracting people from NYC. What was the Bayonne Military Ocean Terminal was sold by the military and is being developed. There are many condominium apartments and businesses that when I was with my ex people had to go out of town to find similar businesses.

Hey Manny you know I’m currently looking at different videos about NYC & NJ so me and the boys can move…I’m really impressed with several different parts of Jersey for me and my boys especially Bayonne! And found out there’s a bus that goes directly into Manhattan from there. ❤️

What I like about New Jersey is that it looks more like the rest of America than New York City does. If you spend too much time in New York City, you might forget that that’s simply not what the rest of America looks like. New Jersey is a nice “slap back to reality.”

I know you couldn't see everything. You missed the whole eastside where all the new construction is happening. Dozens of new condo and apt. buildings. Shopping malls, businesses, and lots more going up. You did cover our nice neighborhoods and parks though. It was nice to see you enjoyed it too.

I lived there between 2016-17 when I was attending grad school. I used to live right across that big park, always used to go for an evening walk. I used to spot planes flying above the airport across that waters. It’s a nice location, affordable and easy to commute to places like Jersey city, Hoboken on NJ side & NYC, plenty of options to commute.

TY for this amazing tour. Lots of walking you did here. I was born in Bayonne in the 1950's & my family moved away around 1966-67 area. I have been back several times but am retired now living in FL & have not been there in years. That huge park was called Hudson County Park in the 1960's then changed to the Bayonne Park years later. Played ball w/my father at that field that was just off the water. That concrete wall along the Newark Bay is original. Many of the beautiful structures are original. JFK Blvd was originally named Hudson County Blvd but changed to JFK after he was killed in 1963. Your end walk of the video was my old neighborhood, aka Bergen Point. I did that walk along B'way from W 7th St to W 4th St many times as a kid as I attended the Catholic grammar school associated with that beautiful church you paused at. St Andrews is the name of that church, but I believe the school was sold off & is now part of the Bayonne public schools. Made my 1st Holy Communion there in 1964. My cousin's old house appears in your video when you are at the very end of B'way at 1st St. Both her & her parents lived there (all now deceased). Your walk along 1st St in the park has some rich history. Used to be quite run down between B'wy & Ave C, but is now that nice park you walked through. True story...that waterway between SINY & Bayonne is known as The Kill Van Kull. On a very very hot day my buddies wanted to swim in the water, but I opted not to as the water was very very polluted back then. One kid who had an open cut on his leg died in that exact spot where you peeked out from infection soon after swimming in the Kill Van Kull. At 1st St & Ave C was the Ferry Station that used to crossed over to Staten Island. You actually stepped into the alcove of the old Ferry. The Ferry burned down approx in 1960. You also strolled through what was known as Uncle Milty's. It was an amusement park that I went to as a very young kid in the early 1960's. It was iconic. Played baseball at that baseball field at the end of your video & walked across the Bayonne Bridge on Easter Sunday in 1966. The cops yelled at me for walking across alone as a 9 year old. I lived on Humphrey Ave & also on W 7th St. TY so much for this great tour here. Bayonne has some great memories for me as a young kid.

Bayonne looked kind of dull at first, but once you found those shady streets and that great park it seemed liked a nice place to live. I really like the appreciation you have for the every life of a city or a neighborhood. Good solid neighborhoods are great for families and small businesses.

Bayonne looks nice, and seems like you can walk to Staten Island over that bridge. (But can't walk from Staten to Brooklyn, nor Hudson County to WTC). The ultimate would be if they get more ferries and free shuttle busses so there can be more options to get to WTC and Midtown.

Hi, you popped u🎉p probably cause I live in Bayonne. You showed a good part of it & walked a lot :li but I would have liked it if you spoke to some residents and spoke about Bayonne’s Economy. Also, you missed all the action & development on the East Side. Besides the Light Rail, Bayonne has developed. The old industrial area where we have shopping centers & chain restaurants. There’s a Walmart, Costco, Lowe’s, Houlihans & a steakhouse. We used to have a movie theater across from Houlihans but it went out of business a few years ago. You also should have mentioned our large population, many churches, synagogue, etc. very diverse population but while it’s much more private , safer, 0:06 peaceful & cheaper than living in Jersey City next door, housing prices are ridiculous. Renters cannot afford to rent. We also have a very old, failing hospital & a new, modern Emergency Room affiliated with Jersey City’s Large Medical Center & a new one associated with .Morristown’s Memorial & Summit’s Overlook hospitals. We were settled by the Dutch in the 1600s & our land was part of the oldest settlement in history called Bergen Point. We have bear 70,000 residents with one High School. We had 2 private, Catholic high schools for over 50 years for Marist & near a century for the all-girl’s H.S. Holy Family but both closed recently. We have many public grammar schools but now only 1 private Catholic grammar schools. We used to have 7 throughout the city. We have a great Police Department & a great Fire Department. There’s a lot of pride in the old Bayonne residents but I don’t know about the new people who have come to rent our “luxury” rentals. It’s a Blue-Collar Town - not a Luxury town. Our lawmakers have made dreadful mistakes in developing Bayonne. Here’s hoping they haven’t ruined it. Thanks for coming & showing it off.

I know the area well, wow that was a very long walk you did! You should return and cross Bayonne bridge over to SI. Time it when the massive cargo ships pass below, I'd seen them in the mornings around 10:00 or so, they're impressive up close. Also there is a nice park behind Bayonne High school.
